I played as different classes and specs/difficulties for my second, third and fourth playthrough (I consider archer rogue to be VERY seperate from melee rogue). I think the block most people have though when playing through again is the tedium of DA II's story, when you think about it the narrative for DA II had a lot of potential it's just that little, if any of it, was followed through properly.

I have played it seven times, but only fully through twice.Once as a warrior, and once as a mage. I'm doing another warrior (with the angry dialouges this time) and I'm almost through act 2 with a sarcastic rouge. What keeps me playing now is purely combat, but thaat has lost its charm. Ihave returned to Dynasty warriors 7 (Flame barrier up) and Dynasty Warriors gundam comes out next month..

I tried to do another run of DA2, and I didn't even make it through Act I.

I haven't been able to complete a second playthrough but I had the same problem with ME2 despite enjoying that game very much. The main draw for me to replay Origins a dozen + times was the Origins themselves. Seeing the different beginnings and the important events later on for each race made the game kind of fresh each time I played it.

I did that, I like playing as a rogue but thought I play that class too much so I went with an archer rogue and gameplay is definately very different, felt group tactics were more important as an archer.  Also I agree the story has/had potential...just lacks polish and in my opinion alternative endings.

Virtually every RPG I play, I start my second playthrough immediately after finishing the game the first time. Usually on a higher difficulty, picking different paths, etc. But for Dragon Age 2, I just don't have that drive.

I want to play through it again. It definitely isn't a game that deserves the flak it has gotten. I loved it. And to top it off, I'm a BioWare achievement hunter - ME, ME2 and DA:O are all maxed out.

There's just something missing... something that isn't motivating me.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I asked myself the same question.

I just couldn't handle all the fed-ex quests and same maps over and over, I barely even finished the first playthough.

And there's my problem... went over to my brother's place while he was doing a playthrough. He played it almost exactly opposite from me, but the same problems arose. Try to save your family from their individual circumstances? Nope, you're screwed whatever you do. The only changes that had any "significant" effect were the ones that got you more cash, but still - same outcome.

With ME1 and ME2 and DA:O (and in RPGs going back to Chrono Trigger), you could make choices with significantly different outcomes and different combinations of those choices... it seems this is not the case with DA2. My gamer sense was tingling, I guess. :P

Ah well, I'm sure I'll decide to max the achievements some day simply because it's BioWare, but for now... it can rest.

Play it again?  Hell, by the end of my first and only playthrough it felt like I had already played it a dozen times thanks to the mind-numbing repetition of combat and featureless recycled maps.

"Oh look!  An empty room!  I wonder if a few seconds from now a bunch of atackers will fall from the ceiling. And then more.  And then more.  And yet more again."

Do you mean it was predictable? Especially after your second or third battle.

I should have never gone back to DAO, because now I can hardly even touch DA2, lol.

It's going to take me forever to finish my second playthrough.  Image IPB

I don't get what people dislike about DA2. Sure, the combat is somewhat more hack'n'slash-y than in DA:O but the story is on par with DA:O. I've done three play-throughs so far.

There is only one choice that has any significant impact on the world. Sure, you can get there through different personality types, but aside from getting a few extra gold here and there, nothing matters. Choice is an illusion. During certain parts concerning one's family, I thought I screwed up. I go on to find out that there is nothing the player could have done. Hawke could have done something, but we aren't given the option to act.

This is precisely it.

Up until Act 3 the game is fine. The story is solid and well done; but Act 3 just mangles the whole lot and makes you feel like it was totally pointless playing this game because there was bugger all you could do because it would ALWAYS end EXACTLY the same way. Every time.

This sort of ending is fine for a book or movie but not an RPG.

My first play was a mage. I finished, played on these forums a bit, and then loaded up a warrior.

Being stuck in the same place and "exploring" the same areas again and again and again on TOP of the fact that each and every combat is itself made up of a repetition of enemy waves.  The story wasn't half bad, but the sense that I wasn't actually GOING anywhere the entire game really was a downer.  Compare this to DAO where you went to the Circle Tower, Orzamaar, Denerim, Redcliff, the Brecillian Forest, heck even the DLC took you someplace you hadn't seen before.  By Act II of DA2 it was difficult to muster any kind of anticipation when I picked up a new quest.  I would just wonder, "Okay, which of the places I've ALREADY BEEN TO will this quest take place in?"

Bleah.

Not getting DA3 if they are just going to phone-in the level design again.

You should probably just finish it if you have any interest at all in DA3, even if it's only passable "yeah.... I MIGHT play"kind of interest. It doesn't take too much to finish, especially if you don't care about the sidequests and just want to see the ending.

Criticisms aside, I was able to get 1000/1000 achievements in about 55 hours, which is considerably less than it took for some other games I played recently. Even though DA2 wasn't my favorite game this year it wasn't much of a time investment seeing everything I wanted to.

Also, it gives you a better frame of reference on the series as a whole if you take the time to finish it.

It's sad, but this is how I feel as well.  Image IPB

Although, I'll probably be picking up DA3 no matter what, I love the series too much to just walk away.

No not at all. I had the same problem. You're right, there's plenty missing. I posted a similar thread not too long ago where I was flamed for asking, but, where is the replay value here? You don't make any choices. The maps are exactly the same. What's the point, just switching class? Meh.

I started the first playthrough with the intent to romance Isabella, and somehow ended up with a cute elven lover istead. So I play through the second time to relish Isabella's saucy talk and you know what? Even the obvious gutter-minded, eye-candy of Isabella was not enough to get me through a second play through. That's just sad.

So I just started Witcher 2, and what.....they are naked? Shocking.

I'm on the same boat as OP.

If the Legacy DLC turns out to be spectacular, I may find the motive to finish the rest of my second playthrough and dellude myself into thinking that the original DA2 quests and reused maps aren't as bad they really turned out to be.

Internet porn is just a mouse click away. You could've saved some money, if that's you were looking for.

I've had the exact same feeling as the original poster. I can't really put my finger on what it is, but it's there none the less. I played through the game back when it was released and I enjoyed it. Not as much as Origins, but I still enjoyed it alot. Now I've begun my summer and I've decided to start a new playthrough, but I have this feeling in the back of my head that is keeping me from feeling really excited about going through the game again. I think I have narrowed it down to some base things. Repetitive re-used areas, not being able to talk to companions as much as and when you like, anti-climatic last act and last but not least a lack of good pacing.

Don't get me wrong, I still really enjoyed the game, but those are the things that were (and still are) keeping me from getting that 'must do another play-through right away'-feeling.
