Okay, so we can see that I have some issues here (lanky white-haired pointy-eared issues). I managed to finish the Anders playthrough and now I just adore that couple. I'm also doing simultaneously:

Female warrior + friendship Merrill
Female rogue + friendship Isabela

For science >.>

In this order, no one, Anders, Fenris, working on Isabela next.

My male rogue romanced Isabela, and then when I remade that character I had him romance...Isabela again. You can see I like Isabela.

As for my female Hawkes, well, I always have trouble pairing off my female characters in DA2. The problem is that every time I create a distinct female character I can't see her wanting to be with any of the options available.

For one, none of my female Hawkes were created to be bisexual, as it just didn't fit the characters I was working with, so the girls are out (although, one of my female rogues did end up kissing Tallis, so their's that).

For two, the male romance options in DA2 are, in a word, terrible. In order to choose which male character you want to romance, simply ask yourself the question: "Do you like Mages?"

If no: Fenris.
If yes: Anders.
If you hate fun: Sebastion.

That's it. That really is all there is to it. They didn't flush out these characters enough to make romancing them interesting beyond the mage/templar thing, and then you have to deal with Fenris' passive-aggressive ranting, Anders going crazy psycho terrorist on everyone, or Sebastion...being Sebastion.

I know Isabela comes off as a **** at first, but at least there's more to her character than that.

I did, just for the sake of doing it, set up my first female rogue with Fenris. Of course, at the end I had to kill him, so you can see how well that relationship went.

Anders, Anders, Anders, Merill, Fenris/Anders, Isabela, Anders, Anders, Fenris/Anders. I love the quote in act three when Fenris says "Break her heart, I will kill you." That alone in itself was worth it.

This is pretty much my feeling about her as well. 

So far I've only done the Anders friendmance with a female mage (default Marian - I love her!)  - several times. What can I say - I can't resist him. I *have* recently created a new rogue to romance Fenris, but am not very far into that playthrough yet. But - one day! (Probably. )

Isabela and Merrill. Not particularly big on either. I agree with Finnian Valko on the basis that the guys aren't really much to write home about.

If I had to pick a favorite, then I guess Isabela, but tbh, I wasn't that much of a fan of any of the romances. Thinking my Hawke will be flying solo from now on.

Sadly I began to romance Merril, but sold DA II because of the Epic Fail thing.

With one exception, all are from a female Hawke.

* My very first romance was with Anders (friendship). I mainly picked him because I liked him from DAA and he was a known character to me.
* For several plays after that, Fenris (friendship) all the way, I just adore him.
* I made a male for kicks and romanced Isabella (friendship) on one occasion. She's ok, I do like the depth that the romance adds to her character.

My main romance preference is Fenris (friendship) with a female Hawke. However, since DG wrote Fenris with a male Hawke in mind, and prefers the rivalry path, I am planning on trying that once just to see. I'm sure it will be highly entertaining... and that wall slam bit will look totally hot when done by a male Hawke...

i was trying for fenris or isabella but anders seems a bit easier. so i will probably keep flirting with isabella and anders n see who i like more as the game progresses. this is my 1st playthrough still! next im gonna try 4 fenris! sebastian seems like a waste from what i read, it says he will never have a real romance with you anyway n if u even flirt with anyone else he wont respond to romance=LAME!!! n what do u guys think is romance better in da2 or dao?

He does have a real romance, he just won't get physical.

Isabeau: Sebastian (friend) --Mostly cause this was my first playthrough, I had intended to romance Fenris and screwed up picking up his quest in Act 1, so I was Fenris-less that game.

Roland (mage): Isabela (friend)
Alistair: (I suck at picking out names) Merrill (Friend)
Roland(warrior): Merrill (Rival)
Kit (played twice with different choices--I really liked this character): Isabela (Friend)
William: Started (and intended to finish with Isabela) and ended up ninjamanced by Rivaled Merrill.
Dierdre: Fenris/Merrill--Ninjamanced again...Rivaled Merrill is so puppy-eyes sad when you don't give her the arulinholm thingee I just have no resistance against trying to make her happy.
Juliette: Fenris
Victoria: Sebastian
Ciara (didn't finish) Sebastian Rivalmance and wasn't worth holding off Fenris for that...
Gawain: (current) will sleep with Isabela but end up with Merrill. Maybe he will go for Fenris too (before Isa), don't know yet.

Can't do Anders romance. Not my type and can barely tolerate him as a companion.

I don't know, I have to kind of respect that he sticks to his vow at least that much, he tends to waffle so much in game I just wanna slap him and say "****** OR GET OFF THE POT!"

First playthrough, I went for Merril. She was adorable, and my super-understanding, joking about all that's serious Hawke could put up with her.

Second playthrough, Isabela was kind of a release for my pent up b**** of a Hawke. She was a rival with just about everyone BUT Isabela.

Third playthrough, I actually didn't romance anyone. I found it hard to like Anders after knowing what he does later, and Fenris never seemed like a good "romance" to begin with. He was far more interesting as a rival without romantics being involved. Oh, and I was male, so Sebastion was out.

Likely on my fourth playthrough (when I feel like it) I'll go LadyHawke again and try out Sebastion. I need to get that Templar achievement anyway since it glitched last time, so I could make a prim and proper lady of a Champion to take that on.

Did all the romances, but my favorite was Anders *squeels* lols. In the second Act, when Hawke chooses the "Kiss me" option towards the end and he rushes her, I was like .... omfg, marry me! And then there was the Chantry mess at the end.... guess who forgave him? Lols. Although, the pushing of Hawke and Fenris back and forth on the wall before they had sex was also sexy... hmmm. But I'll stick with Anders ^^

I haven't "romanced" anyone. I have accidentlaly gotten Fenris and Anders to make advances because in the situations it came up the "romance" response was right sounding supportive one.

i havent finished my 1st playthrough yet its just what i read he doesnt have a "real" romance with u. but i agree if his beliefs are that strong good for him. so far i have found its a bit harder to figure what your companions r gonna approve or disapprove of in da2 compared to dao! they really do have a mind of their own!

All the guys only, but the only one to ever finish properly was the Fenris romance.

Anders, Merrill and Isabela. I've done three playthroughs and I think the best would be Anders because he can be really sweet but he also really....lusty.

A couple more playthroughs since my last post.

I decided to try out the rivalmance with Fenris, and really liked it, he's so growly! and it worked out really well with the sweet-tempered diplomatic mage, Lily Hawke. It was kind of a "Beauty and the Beast" tale.  She 'killed him with kindness'

Currently on a sassy male rogue Hawke, Raphael and rivalmancing him again.

I kinda accidentally romanced Merril. I say accidentally because the first time I flirted it was because of a fat finger on the controller.

Seriously I accidentally clicked the romance answer, and decided to see if it would end up looking like two walruses fighting over a grape! It was both cute and painful to watch Merrill almost ruin the moment!
