to role-play through it, but I tend to play main character again.
Each time I do this, I always romance Anders; believe in
mage freedom and runaway with him in the end.

Anders once/rivalry
Isabela once, period.
Merrill once, period.
Fenris, every playthrough thereafter on both rivalry and friendship.

Wy bother let him rott in the chantry if that is what he wants - That is sexy regardless his status!
I am just not attracted to women, or ugly egomeniacal crazed men, or elves for that matter. So, "romancing" anybody else made me cringe. My prerogative. Given the chance it would have been Cullen, but we were all denied that so... plus I did happen to like Seb, simply because I am not religious.

With that said, I was surprised by how much I liked the new Anders. I'd romance him if I ever get the chance.

I also pursued the Merril rivalmance. Originally I had done friendship with Merril when romancing Isabela but that decision always sat wrong w. me it felt really stupid to encourage demon loving. SO! It was really enjoyable up until the "love scene" and they went all Uhaul dropping the word Love as awkwardly as possible. I guess I am completely frigid and unromantic inside because it made me feel uncomfortable and sort of ruined the Merril magic.
I think Bioware does romance very well but they needed to work on their pacing with it a little bit more. I enjoy the Mass Effect style in the sense that the romance is a genuine process in getting to know that person. I never appreciated that "sex" is the pinnacle moment of a relationship because that seems almost juvenile to have "oh we finally boned because we are probably going to die" as the great epic moment. I think if Bioware could some how marry the two systems DA and ME together they could have something amazing.

Haven't seen a thread like this yet, sorry if I missed it.
My female character flirted with and bedded Isabela, but said it was just for fun, and then she properly romanced Merrill.
Lol I think everyone bedded Isabela. She is so easy!
I romanced Anders in my first playthrough, but I ended up regretting it becuase of the whole "mentally messed up" vibe he had going on. Like the whole partly being possessed thing, the obession with mage crap and losing control...huge turn off...plus he has a really pointy chin like Jay Leno.
I ended up romancing Merrill in my second playthrough and found her to be much nicer, sweeter and overall less annoying. I consider that my more canon playthrough. If only they allowed you to dump people in ACT 3, if I'd know I would've dumped Anders.

The romance with Merril was wonderful, she is truly a sweetheart and it will always be difficult for me not to end up with him. Anders was great for a tragic lovestory but I don't think I can replay that one straight away. It needs to sink back a little, just because it was so sad in the end. Sebastian I wanted to care for, but I didn't really do it. Not his fault, we just didn't click.
Hmm... hoping for a little less angst in one of the DA3-LI:s =) have romanced Traynor in ME3 and she makes just makes me happy in the same way Alistair did in DA:O. Merril did that to an degree, but she is so sad, feeling lonely and separated from her tribe.

After that Merril, Isabella, Merril, Isabella for the so called threesome.. but basicly when i play now it's Isabella every time and a quick dip with Merril.
It's fun to bring Isabella with you when Alistair comes around when you did the threesome in DAO.
Don't like Anders or Fenris so basically there's not much left. I'd prefer Lilliana/Morrigan over these though. In Witch Hunt Anders would have been a nice option because he was fun then.
