Hi All,

I'm no longer able to get my DLC key as the website no longer exists. I went to EA support as advised by other people in this forum (I checked forums before posting like a good boy). However this has been fruitless.

EA will not help and won't provide me with my key for the "bring down the sky" DLC. I've put a copy of the chat log here:

http://sithdynasty.c...les/chatlog.pdf

The chat is a little long at 6 pages. but I'm sure you can see I've tried anything....

Are Bioware able to do anything? :(  I've tried absolutly everything.

There is no Bioware Support here or anywhere. EA is all you get.

I was wondering about this, as well. I'm planning on playing through ME and ME2 on PC.

It all comes down to which particular support rep you get. Some of them are complete muppets and claim that its impossible, others are friendly and helpful and will go the extra yard to grant you that product key. All I can advise is keep trying until you get one of the good ones.

Tried again. no success. I'm considering resorting to the thing that cannot be mentioned...

I just went through this same problem, immensely frustrating. But I ended up going here http://support.ea.com/app/ask and getting a rep on chat. I don't know if you talked to the same service, but she gave me a working code after I explained what was up.

I too went to chat -- (twice!) -- and it was fruitless. And they both gave me the same code, saying "use this, it works -- no problem!!" and guess what? It didn't work. The download and installation instructions were very confusing at best, and once I finally got the DLC installation going, putting in the key they gave me just causes the installation/setup program to exit, saying "Installation Canceled"!  The 2nd time, the rep told me my problem would have to be "escalated" to an advisor...twenty minutes later, I just gave up, closed out the waiting-to-chat window and went back to playing ME. I am just going to forget any DLC ever existed, just play ME for the standalone game that it is, and hope that one day -- maybe -- they'll just offer it as a free add-on download. What's the point of the freakin' "key" anyway when the stupid thing is supposed to be "free & available" to everyone who bought the game.

You know, I'm starting to get a little fed up with the whole EA/Bioware/Origin thing now. I spent a month and 3 "chat" sessions, not to mention doing all my own legwork here at the BioWare forums, just getting Dragon Age II to work in the first damn place!! Now I've got to fight and scratch for a supposedly free download expansion available to "loyal" fans of the ME franchise. Why the hell isn't it just available in Origin or Steam or whatever, where you can just download it and play it?! Why the need for "activation" in the first place of a free expansion pack? Why not just make it a downloadable patch? I have never had to contact a company so many freakin' times about the stupidest crap. It shouldn't be this difficult nor this frustrating. It just ticks me off. :(

Looks like (our) problem is 64-bit Windows 7 related, and that's what I have. Entering the code just exits the installer, but the workaround I posted a link to above is supposed to "bypass" the installation problem. Seems like EA would have "patched" its "patch" by now, but I guess it's not a priority. Can't wait to try it...stupid work... :grr:

A-mazing. I got the workaround to "work", but now I find out that Bioware has had some massive data/information "breach" and now Origin doesn't work at all. I'm supposed to reset my password, only none of the links work that I've gotten (broken links) and any new ones just disappear (maybe more Bioware server overload?) I don't know. I don't think I've ever seen such incompetence on such a rampant scale. This is just ridiculous.

At least I can still run ME from direct links in my game directories, only I can't find any reference to the "Bring Down the Sky" DLC anywhere. Does anyone know how to run/access it?

Ok, thanks, oh-mucusy-one! Here I am looking for a link, a start menu, a menu option...not like it was explained anywhere. Not like I could get any help from EA. You guys (my fellow users) have helped me a thousand times over what EA has.

Most appreciative!

No worries, a general hint though, is to play it as late in the game as possible, as the rewards you get to choose from are quite decent, and can be hard to obtain elsewhere in the game.

This is my first playthrough of ME, so it'll be a little hard for me to tell where I'm at in the game. I'll just have to give it my best guess. Can I just wait until ME is basically over before doing BDtS? Or is that too late?

It will be too late. Do it after you have done Feros and Noveria and all the other main and side quests, but before you do Virmire.

I am thinking about it too but it's not like we would be stealing anyways since we did buy the game.

I just had to do this myself, and was able to have it sorted out in about 2 minutes.  So I'd say the same thing, just keep trying until you get someone that is willing to help.  Get that and you should be all set up pretty quick.

Hey,
Two phone calls to EA yielded no results ("I'm sorry sir, but what you are asking is impossible!"), but just a few minutes on the EA chat got the job done. Here is the transcript of what I typed, feel free to cut and paste-I hope you get the same instant results.

TRANSCRIPT:

Ritesh: Thanks for contacting EA Help! My name is Ritesh how may I help you?

Ritesh: If I am not wrong you want bring down sky?
you: Yes, I need to register my game in order to an additional CD Key for the free Mass Effect DLC: "Bring Down the Sky."
Ritesh: Sure.
you: ^"in order to receive"
Ritesh: Please wait while I give you this DLC.
you: Thank you.
Ritesh: Here is the link to download the game from -

http://files.bioware...t_BDtS_ES_a.exe

Thanks Senator_MN, you were totally right. EA Live chat took less than 5 minutes and the code they gave me worked like a charm. Thanks for the tip!

I have had the same problem for several days in trying to register my Mass Effect. Basically I played the game for some time before abandonning it for several months, when I came back to finish it I completed "Virmire" then decided to get the DLC but encountered the same problem you guys had.

It took several attempts to get an email to EA via their poorly designed support site but today I got this response.

Dear David ,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

We would like to inform you that you can register Mass effect in official site of Bioware . We would request you to download the expansion from the below given link and use the below listed key to install it.

Here is the link to download the game from -

http://files.bioware...t_BDtS_ES_a.exe

Code - ****-****-****-****-****"

If your issue still persists , please let us know with brief description .

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Akanksha
Electronic Arts – World Wide Customer Experience

All I can now hope is that the installer works as I have seen posts elsewhere to sugget there are further barriers to getting my DLC running.

Z.

Yup... 10 minutes on the boards, then 10 minutes with someone on chat. problem solved.
