Well that's a new take on things. It defiantly looks it would be an alpha.

So I'm guessing the architect's form is like the next stage in evolution for darkspawn?

I think this one is an arcane horror, but with armor?

Ok I was looking foward to having a story that looks interesting but i forgot how retarded the dark spawn look in this game.

Yep, the derpspawn. I see skeletor is still with us. And now we have Genlocks who look like LoTR trolls who buggered gorillas and got some sort of fungus that turned their skins Kirwall Lowtown tan. The Hurlock Alpha took a trip to LoTR land and decided to get surgery to look like "the Mouth of Sauron."

Yep, cuz the darkspawn design from DAO so flawed it just begged to be retconned...*sigh*

Yeah.... because clearly calling a part of a city by a geographical descriptor is bogus, lame, and pathetic. I'm looking at YOU, Upper West Side.

The Upper West Side is composed of neighborhoods with specific names:  Morningside Heights, Harlem, Riverside, etc.  But carry on.  The anti-hater haters are amusing. lol

I wouldn't have minded the names, if there had been more "there" there in terms of the city's fabric and vibrancy.

As opposed to Genlocks who... looked exactly like goblins? I mean, you might not like New!Darkspawn, but seriously the old genlock design was horrendous.

I remember playing Origins for the first time and waiting until the end of Ostagar to see some darkspawn. I seriously didn't realise the things I was fighting were actually darkspawn, I thought they were orcs and goblins and some darkspawn were going to show up in a minute.

It's interesting to see what they're trying to do here, and I'm wondering if they've FINALLY accepted the fact of how bad DA2 simply was.

I'm not holding my breathe though and I CERTAINLY will NOT be WASTING my money to buy it on release. The collector in me WILL eventually get it though.

In my overall opinion, we should just drop DA2. It was a disappointment, and I don't think ANY amount of DLC (Which we'll have to PAY for mind you) or paches will fix that. We should just throw all our cards into making DA3 something to remember, like Origins.

If we're going down this road though, I am DEMANDING a FREE love interest DLC pack then. If you're gonna give me a sucky and pointless storyline, at least give me more kissy time with the boys and girls.

Agreed.

Also, am I the only one who found the LI's awful in DA2?

As I like to romance female companions, I had the option of either Ms Smelly Pirate Hooker or Merrill.  Merrill almost turns the game into some sort of virtual child molester simulator, so I went with the smelly pirate.

Also, if you are going to romance a male companion you are left with your choice of Anders and Fenris....Image IPB

So yeah, maybe some more LI's in DLC might be worth it.

^ You are not the only one; The LI:s were pretty horrible for me too (well, pretty much every companion character was horrible), and I had that same feeling with Merril.. that is just wrong.

If I ever replay this game, I'm going for FemHawke who tries to desperately get Varrics attention, and that is the reason she murders every bandit in Kirkwall, she is so damn frustrated about the fact that Varric doesn't give her what she wants.

Still prefer them to zombie ape skeltor hybrids. I will say this, at least in the pics above they don't look as much like the LoTR troll. And again, the darkspawn design was not one of the flaws DAO really had that needed fixing.

The rest are half undeads from any undead movies...
Making DA2 a horror game a dlc at a time!
Sorry..

I'll buy but.. sh** make something that put us out of kirkwall already and it continues after the end of act 3.

So true.  :(  I recall the Chris Priestley response to "what happened to 2 years of DLC?"  Answer:  "Dragon Age 2."

Bad answer.

Ugh...yup, I'd be all for more Origins content. Although with how poor most of the post launch stuff was, maybe not.

It's got two of my least favorite things from Origins in it already: Darkspawn and the Grey Wardens.

So I'm going to wait and see.

Hehe, trolls who buggered gorillas, DA2, making things more mature by adding bestiality's love children.
I agree, DAO's Darkspawns were not perfect, but I thought they were far superior to the current design.

So the Genlock Alphas now look like LoTR trolls, and the Genlock lite look like Skeletor got drunk and got a little hot and heavy at the gorilla pen.

Really, the old darkspawn were just fine. If this is what they turned into, just let them die and never bring them back.

That and not telling the truth about Hawke "being able to determine the story plot" and such, don't make me want to trust BW. Enough is enough. Maybe they can get some of my trust back with Legacy. If it disappoints because of similar "unrealistic" marketing statements (and that includes promises made in the forums and interviews) then I'll drop DA3. That's just my viewpoint about it.

@ erynnar

I liked the Origins Darkspawn, perhaps a little more variation in facial features and armour between the spawn if we had them in DA2, but it didn't need to be redone entirely. Codecies say that they produce vast quantities of armour and weapons so I don't think they are going to be the most lovingly prepared equipment, but its going to be effective.

The new Hurlock weapons and armour, the swords look daft, the armour doesn't actually look like it serves any purpose and they move like planet of the ape rejects in a gimp suit with a skeletor halloween mask

The latest design, I really don't like. But, then again I hate a lot of the new art style.

I completely agree actually.

I didn't have a problem with the DAO darkspawn; I thought that them being Orcs and Goblins with a twist was kind of the point of their look in DAO. After all DAO took the traditional Fantasy setting and twisted it.

EDIT:
I saw the DA2 darkspawn being referred to as "Clownspawn" and I totally agree. They just look comical and silly not dark and gritty.
Much of the art direction (and UI ) of DA2 was just stupid and nonfunctional.

Absolutely agree. This DLC does not look interesting at all as it is still firmly anchored in the cartoon/"awesome" design of DA2. I'll withhold my money (having spent more than enough on DA:O DLC) until something worth buying comes along.

Jesus this looks as horrible or maybe worse than DA2..Well, find out if its decent from player reviews of those who wasted their money.

All DA DLC's have sucked balls so far, the only good one was the release day Shale DLC for Origins.
