I liked Sovereign for what it was, but I think the whole Reaper (and Collector) thing has lost whatever edge it had.

For all it's worth, I think the series would've been much better if they never played the ancient machine race angle and just went with the marvelous universe based around interspecies relations they built.

They're a worthy opponent, and carry some interesting philosophical implications around with them.
the only complaint I have is that even though there's a visible head among them they're too horde-like and lack the nemesis factor.

I think the reason i prefer sovereign is because we actually had a proper convorsation with him. With Harbinger it's just irritating one liners (unless you played arrival, but that's only a small convorsation so it don't count) :) And yeah i think the reapers are the best enemy i have ever faced because after two whole games of fighting them, there still seems to be no way to beat them.

As an enemy? Yeah, I think they're really cool. "Like" is a really vague word. And I agree, I liked Sovereign more too.

Agreed... Sovereign was a terrific enemy / antagonist... he genuinely instilled fear & intimidation.

Harbinger unfortunately does not.. at all... it's a combination of his voice sounding less like a machine (like Sovereign's) and a lot more like a regular person forcing a deep voice... combined with some pretty cheesy lines...

All said, Harbinger always felt like a petulent child to me.... Sovereign felt like a 'gonna poop-my-pants' kind of terror.

I hope they rework his voice entirely for ME3 (fire the previous voice actor too) and give him less petulent lines... or replace him entirely with a new Reaper "boss" that is actually intimidating.

Who will be Assuming Direct Control though?

I could just inagine Harby married. He wouldn't even attempt to do such a thing!!

Having said this, we appeared to be fighting posessed humans:

Saren - whom Sovereign "indoctrinated"
The Collector General (and drones) whom Harby took control over.
Whom will be the next "human" victims. Cerberus and all the other races.

I guess if anything, it would depends on how the Reapers are written as in "Will the player take down the 'Boss Reaper' (thinking from a "human" perspective. - ME2) or will it be cinematic like ME1 (where you took out his [Sovereign's] "drone" [Saren]"

They could do it like "take care of the drone to get to the boss" (ME2 - The Human Reaper + Harby & Co.)

IMHO, option 2 is more immersive as it's YOU doing it. I took out the Reapers rather than watch it happen.

As far as liking them, they were all right with me and may not be all that bad. They have there reasons for doing what they are hust as much as Sheperd has his reasons for being a hard ass.

I liked Sovereign as a villain.

Harbinger reminded me too much of Dr. Evil.

The second sentence was obviously a joke, but I do appreciate the info. I didn't know that! Interesting. I wonder how that would play out as it seems to be a "backwards" viewpoint from the setup here. As most have said through, "Indoctrination" whichever way it happens is a contrved reason to just have someone turn on you. Not that I agree with that statement because a turn doesn't always happen because of an "infection." (ie: Ash/Kaidan's attitude on Horizon. They still could have had such, but most agree that it was written very badily)

I think they are good enemy. It is interesting sci fi and they seem to be a great epic villain. I like the idea of their intelligence and that enemy that has always been there.

My opinion of them will depend largely on their ultimate motivation, how many of them there are, and how they got to the galaxy.

It could go from reasonably high to 'bleh.'

I liked them better when they were machines. And if this whole needing of organics and being cyborgs themselves doesn't play out properly in ME3, I'm gonna try to erase the last ten minutes of ME2 out of my memory and just pretend this retcon never occured.

THIS.

Isn't it obvious that the Reapers are misunderstood and are just looking for attention...or did I interpret them wrong :/
