Are these "support" threads really necessary?

Excuse my naivity. I am very new to this board. I am trying to adjust to all the bizarre things that are done here. One of the things that confuses me quite greatly, is why we allow spam. Specifically, why is there so many Support threads clogging up the section.

What in the flippers flip are there purpose?  I don't get them. There must be something I'm missing because all I see is spam. and quite alot of it. and everything, character, npc, pet alien gets a thread. Kelly Chambers? for christ sakes, how much does she not deserve a thread!

Most of these threads reserve a permanent spot on the front page and contribute NOTHING to discussions. So why do we have them? if we want to "support" a character do we need to spam to do it? Can't we support by buying the game? isn't a thread a little redundant?

At this point, they're just useless spam wasting bandwidth on our board.

There are "Official" support threads for each character and in each thread, there are discussions on what the future of so and so character is, why we like the character, fanfiction, music written for them, etc. It's not spam in my opinion, just show's how well written they are and credit to Bioware for making great characters

In ye olden days they used to clog up the general discussion forum so you would have to scroll down half the page to find a topic that wasn't a character support thread.

Seriously? I don't think you should let it bother you... Or people will start to think you are a troll.

Is it necessary though? Can't people that are interested in the character find that stuff on their own? We have alot of ingame characters floating about to give every_single_one their own thread is detracting from the section. clearly.

Who hasn't posted on this board and developed a "skip support thread" vision? I know I have.

They are threads dedicated to discussing those characters. Considering this forum is dedicated to discussing characters in general, would it not make sense to have threads dedicated to discussing the most prominent and popular characters in ME? Otherwise, there would be tons of threads about certain characters instead of just the dedicated ones we have now.

This forum has such a problem. It's like these elitest jackwads are on the prowl for new topics just to share their obnoxious wisecracks in the first reply. How about you return to the 6th grade where the kids share your maturity level.

and yes, I am necessary. I'm a Bioware customer, I buy their games.

Because you're 'new' here I'll explain. The threads exist to limit spam rather than to be spam. By giving the fans a single thread to be...well fans...of their favorite character, it keeps them from spamming the forum with an infinite number of topics on that character.

You know, like the way spam would be reduced if you just contained yourself to one of these threads you keep making to complain.

Then why are you complaining about them instead of just.. y'know.. skipping them?

Why not go to the General Discussion instead of trolling around the Character and Romance Discussion talking about how much you hate talking about romances and characters?

I much rather have topics that specify certain qualities of characters and brings about discussions than these "I love this character thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis much" topics. I find the latter spam. very useless and virtual space consuming. These topics don't deserve the front page.

In theory that would make sense. Instead of reducing spam, it really just adds a permanent spam thread and then some other useless stuff. People still (and will always) make new topics to discuss certain qualities of their characters. Which should be how it is, right? this is the character and romance section. What I don't like are these spam threads that have no discussional value to them.

Sorry, I'm pretty sure the way things are ran here is that new topics gets *gasp* new topics. because if I used it in the same thread it'd be "off-topic". Nice try though.

I'm pretty sure someone has called me Extreme one and.. someone else "successor" already, so, I guess your opinion is just another toss in the bin. Not that I care what your _pals_ think of me. If I wanted to troll I'd just attack Tali or something. I wouldn't go through the trouble of making a point. Something you obviously can't do.

Excuse double post.

Was it necessary for you to join the forums two days ago and immediately begin (trying) to troll like a pro?

Serious or not, it's a true story.  It's like a bunch of teenage girls squeeling about who they think is cute with no actual thought process.

Are these support threads just the lessers of two evils? if so, seriously sad.

@DoNotIngest: Why must you guys follow me around and spam this crap. We get it, you think I'm a troll. Say it then go away. obviously my "trollish" attitude isn't coming across to the other members because they still reply. Now, if that's everything, I believe your stuff is packed and ready to go.

by the way; these images suck and blow. get some actual funny ones. Another thing I don't understand about this board, the abuse of unfunny imagery. Another topic for another day.

King Zaeel, if you do not like these threads, I encourage you to stay in the General Discussion forum where you will not see these threads. As with any discussion, if you do not like it, do not take part in it.

LOCKDOWN!
