Perhaps this has been discussed before? I am curious as to what Harbinger is referring to when it says "we will find another way," to do what exactly? I mean, let's face it, the Reapers excel at obliterating civilizations, definitely not because of a lack of practice. They probably know all the moves by now, the lengths to which any civilization near the brink of destruction will go to in order to survive.
Furthermore, they're probably the most technologically advanced race in the known universe at that point. That being said, why use the Collectors at all? To do what exactly? What's the point of building a single human reaper when you have an army of thousands (or more) and you have every confidence you will succeed? Gain time? What for, the Arrival? They couldn't have been referring to their standard protocol for obliterating all sentient life-forms since it's already been perfected. Plus, the galaxy doesn't want to believe the Reapers exist so, why not lay low, and instruct your minions to lay low as well, until you've finally made the journey across dark space?

One of my major complaints about ME2 was that it was merely exposition for establishing teammates. You finish exactly where you started; cool ship, a bunch of friends, nobody believes you, and the Reapers are still coming. The Human Reaper was most likely going to be one of many created PRIOR to the arrival of the main fleet, as evidenced by the Geth Reaper shown at E3. They were preparing other allies in the wake of Nazara's destruction. The goal was to build a sizable fighting force that could overwhelm the Citadel and manually open the Relay from dark space. Since one wasn't enough, even with the Geth heretics, more Reapers would be needed to get the job done, hence the Human Reaper.
When you destroy the Human Reaper, the ultimate goal of the Collectors in this instance, and the imminent destruction of the Collector Base, Harbinger stopped
assuming control. The Reapers decided at that point to say "the Hell with the bus, I'll walk." They don't want to fly into the galaxy; they want to insert themselves into the heart of it and cut off the supply lines.
The goal of the Collectors was to make a new "Vanguard of our Destruction." When you kill the larva, the Reapers decide to act before more damage is done and their plan is revealed. They know Shepard knows about them, they know he is trying to stop them. If they waste more time trying to use the Citadel backdoor, the peoples of the galaxy could be better prepared.
Referenced to the Arrival DLC ending in which Harbinger describes Shepard as an annoyance; Alpha was supposed to let the Reapers leapfrog to the Citadel. Now it appears they have to progress all the way to the Charon Relay...and eat Earth in the process.

I feel the Reapers are in a hurry for something. They seem desperate to start this cycle ASAP.
I don't know what, but that's what it feels like.
I like this idea. Had some vapid hopes of this as well, and it might come into play. Maybe something will come about from it in ME3.
