So I know what the right answer is (it's none of the above), but I have no idea how the clues are supposed to lead you to this conclusion. The notes are written by the Observer, right? The only individual NOT mentioned in the notes is the Krogan, which I thought meant that the Krogan is the Observer. However, after failing miserable, I looked up the answer online, and still don't get it. How does Shepard suddenly know the Observer is female? This is never mentioned or implied by Liara or by any of the notes. I'll consider this puzzle broken until someone convinces me otherwise.
does Liara's Observer quest puzzle make sense to anyone?

Because the 5th data point clue tells you the Observer is female.
“Vorcha trader has requested no further contact with the salarian. Salarian is becoming more trouble than he is worth. Observer recommends a kill, but she may have a grudge.”

Huh, ok. So if the 5th data point (i.e. the first one you encounter) has that info, what's the point of all the other data points? To make you see through the noise that the only thing that matters it that the Observer is "she"?

All the other data points refer to the observers contacts as being male, so its to isolate the observer being the only female out of the group.
Edit: Check the wiki for more info on it.
