i have never really been too fond of alistair. he gets on my nerves. i would really love to be able to have logain as my sword and shield tank instead of alistair. is there any way to get to the point where you get logain to join, soon? or is it a scripted storyline that has to be reached only near the end game? any way to leap frog over some parts to get him sooner or am i stuck with alistair the entire game? this is my first playthrough. when do you actually get logain, anyway? after all the treay quests are done? i assume its near the end game.
is there any such thing as a "fast" way to get Logain in your party?

There is a mod, I forget the name, which triggers the Landsmeet sooner in the game so you can pick him up earlier.

I do not suggest you do that during your first playthrough though...but that's just me.
What I usually do is play the vanilla game the first time, or first few, and then do modding later.

I play on the 360 so I don't have modding abilities. Also I only plan to do one major thorough playthrough. When exactly does this landsmeet take place and what does the word even mean?

The Landsmeet is a gathering of Fereldan nobles in Denerim.
You reach this phase in the game once you've gotten the Grey Warden treaties filled (Circle Tower, Dalish, Dwarves) and cured Arl Eamon of Redcliffe. Eamon will call the Landsmeet.
The Landsmeet itself, where you can get Loghain, doesn't happen until after a few more quests in Denerim.
Note that once the Landsmeet is called, some quests will no longer be available (for instance, you will not be able to confront Flemeth on Morrigan's behalf). Other quests, like Zevran's, will be triggered, and the outcome may depend on his approval of you.

Yes and around the time of the landsmeet, certain merchants' inventories change as well, right? Along with wade's emporium?
Would anyone recommend/not recommend even entering Denerim at all, until after all the treaty quests are finished, etc.? I sort of wanted to visit the wonders of thedas for some good equipment as well as doing lelianas personal quest to confront marjoline. But if entering denerim and then leaving denerim messes up any of the quests or events in denerim, I. Do not want to enter, then leave.

Entering Denerim early won't mess anything up. In fact, you are required to go there as part of the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest to revive Arl Eamon. It's also not a bad idea to go there right after Lothering for the shops and quests, though you probably won't be able to afford much at that point.
Usually I go in order: Lothering>Broken Circle>dlc>Arl of Redcliffe>Denerim>Haven/Urn of Sacred Ashes>Paragon of Her Kind>Nature of the Beast>Landsmeet. This isn't the one way to go about things, but I just find it most convenient, as I like to go to the circle tower early to pick up Wynne and get the fade essences, and have access to all of the chantry board, blackstone irregulars, and mage's collective side quests a.s.a.p., so I have less backtracking to do later. I also like to fight the high dragon as early as possible to have access to wade's dragonscale armor sooner than later.

Arthur and shadow - Thanks very much. And yes, getting access to the dragonscale armor is something I really want access to, asap.
