I'd rather it be that everyone chooses dialogue on their respective character than there being a roll.
This way, each character is his/her own. Its not simply another face on the same body.
Hypothetical situation incoming-
4 player co-op. Decision making time, there are two ways we can go, but we can't come back from wherever it is we travel. In one direction there's an ammo drop where everyone can reload and rearm themselves to continue the fight. In the other, there's a supermarket where everyone can stock up on food, but ammo is limited and there might not be any to find.
The following are just known characters I'm using in this example, none are superior to the others.
Player 1-Commander Shepard
Player 2-Ashley Williams
Player 3-Garrus Vakarian
Player 4-Urdnot Wrex
Situation 1-
Shepard-"Alright, where should we go? Personally, I vote for the ammo drop."
Ash-"I say the ammo drop. No sense in stopping for food if we don't have the ammo to continue the fight."
Garrus-"I agree, it doesn't make sense. Food serves us no good if we're dying from bullets rather than hunger."
Wrex-"I'm hungry."
Shepard-"Well, suck it up Wrex, we're off to grab some ammo. We're moving out."
Situation 2-
Shepard-"Alright, where should we go? I think we need some food. We're running low."
Ash-"Hmm, not a bad idea. I AM starving, and there's no sense trying to fight if we're all out of energy."
Garrus-"I don't know, I still think we should go for the ammo drop. We really need to keep fighting."
Wrex-"Gah, take a break, Vakarian. Lets eat, we'll fight later, whether we have ammo or not!"
Shepard-"Easy for you to say, Mr. I can charge at things and use biotics at any time. Anyway, pack up, we're headed to grab some meals."
^That dialogue, each line, chosen by a different player. Each character having his/her own set of dialogue options in any given situation respective to who they are, with the player choosing which one they agree with most.
I think it'd make for a rather interesting multiplayer experience. We can keep it story heavy while still keeping it very combat heavy and fun. No one's left out of at any point in time, and if there's ever a split decision between 4 players as to where to go or what to do, all that has to be done is leave the tie breaker decision to Player 1.
Sounds fun to me.
