Anyone else remember in ME1 there was a planet that the description was about some Volus searching for the crypts of some "beings of light" or something that were the only creatures capable of defeating the "machine devils"?

No. Did you have a point? Like it is a key to stopping Reapers?

I've seen that planet, and doubt it actually has anything against Reapers. Besides, he's a Volus! Maybe some gas got into his suit and started to see crazy!

BTW, this planet is in the same system where you find Toombs. Kepler Verge? I can't remember right now.

I'd laugh my ass off if Bioware missed this lore in ME3.

It was brought up in another thread as well a day or two ago. One of the things mentioned during the discussion was the beings of light could simply be holograms like the Vigil VI interface.

Haven't played ME1 in ages, but this entry just popped into my head the other day thought maybe someone here would remember better or have a source.

Hmmm maybe....

Some sort of incredible VI is the key to shutting down Reapers! Shepard needs to get searching on that planet.

Some have also suggested that there might be a link between this and Saren's raid on the Volus transport. Pretty thin, though.

While this would be interesting to explore, I really, really, really hope that there are no beings of light that swoop in and save us from the Reapers. Swooping is bad.

Yes, I believe that on the Mass Effect General Discussion board this was the number 1 'how will we defeat the reapers'-suggestion

There are too many Reapers to kill with force. If there is a VI that was created along with the Reapers to be able to stop them, then we can shut them down with that VI. Who know though?

Bioware's made seemingly irrelevant lore relevant in a big way before: see Cerberus.

They've probably forgotten about it unfortunately.

I think people are taking this too literally. For all we know, the Volus is delusional, after all, there is no evidence for the existence of such "beings of light" other than his claims.
Basically: BioWare set it up to easily dismiss it should they choose not to pursue that particular avenue.

That said, if they were indeed VIs created at the same time as the Reapers to stop them, I could roll with that. However, the question then surfaces: why weren't these VIs activated during previous cycles?

NO!  The last thing we need is the synthetic version of the ending to The War of the Worlds.
