I'd say to protect Rome's Coliseum!

If you watch at the wallpaper with Shepard and the Earth in background with Reapers flying in, you can see Italy right next to Shepard with a Reaper going towards Milan, another to Sicily and another in the middle of the Tirrenian Sea Rome will be spared, even the Reapers respect the Coliseum and the first "capital of the world"

Pretty sure it was stated at some point that in ME Europe is the "best place on Earth" or something, so maybe they tried to defend it.

I just watched the trailer again and it shows formations over west europe,the north atlantic and north america.the german news reports explosions practiclly all over the world,the french reporter says they're problems with communication,don't know what the asian guy says,but it's probably about casualties...and the Reapers are shown to attack Africa which is actually a good idea considering that it's a well populated area with low defences(at least nowadays)

Firstly, trailers arent canon. They are teasers and are usually "wrong" because Bioware don't generally create them, they contract a CGI movie studio to do the work who NEVER know the lore as well as BW or the fans.

Secondly, it doesnt say that the ENTIRE alliance navy is over Europe. Just that parts of it were.

Thirdly, who ever suggested that the Reapers would pass the Arcturus relay to get to the Local cluster I have to say that I don't agree.
The Arcturus relay is the route from the Local Cluster to the Citadel. Considering the Repears are coming from Batarian space in the "south" of the Galactic map, and both Arcturus and The Citadel are "north" of the Local Cluster they wouldn't necessarily need to pass through Arcturus.
It is never said that it is the only route to the local cluster.

Actually if the Reapers used Relay travel they would have to go through the Arcturus Relay. Actually that is one of the reasons why Arcturus is an important location. Its the only relay into the Sol system.

I believe that the Reapers will use non Relay FTL to get to Earth.

Do tell how would one go about ambushing the Reapers? I mean the Collectors didn't seem to have much trouble locating the Normandy wile stealthed. What makes you think that and entire fleet laying in wait would escape their notice?

It doesn't make much sense, when they fought sovereign they knew how many ships they lost just killing one reaper. so why mass almost there entire armada of ships which are built for more of a direct combat over europe where they could become easy prey for the reaper war ships?

It's never said that "almost their entire armada" are the ships that are massing over Europe. So this question is meaningless.

maybe they could hide earths fleets behind one of the less colonaized planets in our system, the reapers would never suspect that they would have suspected that we mass over earth. but if we hid, we could attack them from behind which would give us a better chance at fighting the reapers. the reaper fleet would be somewhat vulnerable to an attack from behind.

Well maybe it's because shepard blew up a system in batarian space and his trial is going to be there and the fact that batarian space is south of the galactic map of course you send the fleet to earth military commands always think of defending threre own ass first then everyone else.Where would you send the fleet horizon?
