Or a simple pet name.

Perhaps something like:

Sweetheart?
Punkin?
Sugar Biscuit?
Nummikins Pie Head?
Sugar Sweetheart Dumpling Pie Brains?

Hmmm, I don't think I've found the perfect one yet...;)

If some of you know in ME 1 that on the Alliance News Network (ANN) that it revealed that Shepards mom is alive (dont know about the father). Do any of you think that Shepard will get to figh alongside his mother. If he does that would be sick. (Also I dont know if its just for Spacer background you get it). So opinions? ^_^

Colonist background = orphan.

Earth born = unknown parents.

They've said via twitter and elsewhere that apparently background will play a part in ME3. So, perhaps we'll see Shep's mom and other stuff.

But how would she look convincing when we have custom Shepard's available. It would have to be some radio call to make it more technically convincing. Maybe her crew's ship is amongst a fleet going in to attack Reaper's and they exchange worried Bye/Love You's.

Seriously, Asian Shep and Sheploo can't have the same Mom. And I doubt there is some auto creator that can make her look like she is really your mom

^^ This. There's no way she can make an appearance if all Shepards can look completely different.

I never really thought of that.....
I could see a transmission though since the voices stay the same. They did that with Hackett in ME. So why would they not do that here. Valid Point as I say it. :\\

I know i also saw that. But wouldnt that mean Shep would have you-know-what with his creator.
Only the most disturbing fans would say that.

Well, some people demanded Bethany to be romanceable... Go figure...

They very well can do that, look at Fallout 3 and DA2.

I loved love to see Hannah Shepard. I mean I found it weird that in ME1 we get a personal call from Mum, and then in ME2 a stupid email where she doesnt event say "I love you son/daughter".

They would most likely do what they did with DA2, and create a look based on each "preset" that you can pick/customise. And given you finicky the CC in ME is you can pretty much guarantee an approximate look for Hannah so she looks sorta like him.

This would be acceptable to me.

A meeting with Shepard´s mom would be nice. Maybe she´ll help at some point.

Actually Im playing ME1 right now and it said her name. I never heard it in ME2 :

You received an email from "Mom".
Wasn't too pleased Shepard never wrote her.  Shame on Shepard.

Pah-leese.....She sent an e-mail....What kind of mother is that?

And she didn't even say "I love you"......

She did too.  :

"From: Mom

So I have to find out my child is alive third-hand from the Alliance brass? Where the hell have you been?

I figure whatever you're doing is classified, likely part of your Spectre Operations. Just stay safe out there, and keep doing your mom proud. And sneak something through a secure channel next time.

Love,

Your mother, Captain Hannah"

Though I have to admit the "your mother Captain Hannah" is a bit strange.  Maybe some kind of family joke that bioware forgot to let us in on.

Good.  my two favorite backgrounds are space and colonist.  This I can look forward to.

But it would be easy to rationalize why Shep's mom does not look like Shep:

1) Shep resembles his dad.
2) Shep is adopted.
3) Shep's "mom" is his stepmom.
4) Shep was exchanged as an infant in the hospital.  They still haven't figured out the error.
5) Shep's mom got a face lift/nose job/some work done.

Not that big an issue. Certainly wasn't one in DA2 or the Cousland Origin in DAO.

Oh yes.  And not only the first name, but the whole name.  Or if my dad wanted me to come in and change the tv channel.  No such thing as a remote, that's what your kid was for.

If Shepard is the only one in the room it would be sort of wierd to have her say a name.  Honey isn't bad, but I'd be happy to have them just start talking.

If you're a Spacer, and romancing anyone, this should happen:

Scene: The final massing of the combined fleet before the final battle. Shepard has already met with the leaders of the allied fleets and now stands in the CIC with most of the squad, waiting for the Admiral Hackett to arrive. The elevator doors open, and in strides Hannah Shepard, wearing admiral's stars.

Shepard: ...mom? Um... er, where's Admiral Hackett?

Hannah: Steven took his dreadnought back one relay to pick up stragglers. Some Quarian ships got stranded when their engines failed. I'm here to discuss battle plans in his place.

Shepard: Okay... well, the plan is-

Hannah: -speaking of discussions, you and I are going to have a long one after this is over. First, it takes over a year for you to talk with me, after returning from the dead I might add, and on top of it all, I have to find out through secondhand sources that you're finally dating someone! Do you know how long I've been waiting for grandchildren?

*Shepard and his/her respective love interest blush furiously.*

It's easy. Her avatar is generated when you start the game, with her hair and skin color matching Shepard's. Problem solved.

I would LOVE it if Shepard's mom's face was influenced by Shepard's features (ie. the values for Shepard's face being used to create Hannah's, with some slight changes).

I can just imagine people on the forum having a "Who has the hottest mom" thread competition.

No, for the simple reason of, what racial type should they make her? Everyone makes their own Sheps differently, so having a black Shep and white mum could lead to even more "you ruined my immersion bioware!" nerdrage.

If they went with a pre-set face model, yeah.

If they went with a composite model based off of the CC set variables that you choose for Shepard, it could work.

Yeah, I was thinking of how that works with this character, James, from Fallout 3. I wonder if something similar could be done in ME3 with the game engine, if Hannah makes an appearance.

If she were to play a hugepart in the game, then yeah, they could do that, but I cant picture Bioware implementing that level of scripting just for a side-quest or random conversation.
She could, however, get severely injured in a Reaper attack on her ship, and you talk to her with her body all bandaged up like an egyptian mummy. But i guess a mummy mummy would be pushing the puns too far.

...I'll get my coat.

It might be interesting if you find out the Orizaba is destroyed/disabled but don't find out about her fate until later.

I'm not sure killing her off would have too much impact given that she's not really a well developed character, it'd have a major impact on Shepard but not as much on the player.  It'd be interesting to be able to choose how to react to the news at least, although they'd have to be careful about what options they give (and they probably couldn't please everyone even with 6 options).

I'd be happy enough with this suggestion, certainly.  I'd just like more to be made of background choices in ME3 than was in ME2, especially the spacer background (my preference) as I'm in favour of anything that adds roots/family connections to a protagonist.  ME1 made good use of the backgrounds (several conversation references throughout and even a side mission) - ME2 had an email and a news report.
It bugged me in ME2 when you're delving into the intimate family affairs of most of your crew but they don't ask about Shepard's family at all - Jacob, Miranda, Thane, Samara and Tali all have serious family issues, Mordin refers to a nephew, Garrus has a sister and sick mother, even Grunt had a daddy figure.  Shepard doesn't even email his own mother back to say he's alive!  Maybe they don't get on, but still...

Didnt Casey say they would be spending more time on Shepard's background? I hope so anyway.

This is one of those things that bugged me in ME2, especially the email. it was so empty and bland. ME had the right idea by adding a couple of small quests based on your background. I was sad to see it was completely stripped away in ME2.

In response to those who don't think it'll be possible to have an auto-generator to make MamaShep... It actually wouldn't be all that difficult. There are only so many different choices you can choose in the editor, additionally I'm assuming character codes will be utilized again in ME3, the generator could be programmed such that it'll only modify a few parts of the code to make an older looking Shepard that shares similar characteristics. Most likely keep similar facial size, cheekbone, nose, etc... but then have different skin scarring to make the skin look older with wrinkles or something as well as white hair or something. This'll probably be easier for FemSheps, but I'm sure it'll be do-able for MaleSheps also.

But yea I'd love to see Captain Hannah Shepard make a bigger appearance in ME3, it would be totally awesome to fight alongside mum during the Reaper invasion.
