* first time I saw the SR2 (I played ME2 first) my first thought was that it looked like a modified extended version of the slave that flew parallel to the cockpit rather than perpendicular.

Ahh yeah i see it. You're right if you make the Slave I look like the Normandy it does look like the Normandy. Its so obvious to me now.

I find myself unable to demonstrate what I mean because EVERY SINGLE normandy SR1 pic online has it facing forward at an angle to the camera.

You are certifiable OP. The only way these two ships look remotely similar is if you were to physically force on into the mold of the other. But that doesn't really count as similar neither does "If you cut it in half then remove this." That wold be like me saying that the Pillar of Autumn looks like the Enterprise when you cut a relatively Enterprise shape out of the PoA... just doesn't make sense now does it?

I think I kind of see it now. The OP is saying that the light grey part of the top picture, looks similiar-ish to the main body of the normandy (no "wings")

I see it. If you take Bobafet's (sp?) ship and turn it on it's back, then take off the whole of the back and the wings and the guns, then flatten it a bit, then bend it a bit, then squish the front so it's more pointed, then put on new wings, add a tail fin... wait, what were we doing?
