Why would you want a new ship? SR-2 has everything you need -_-

I felt more at home aboard the SR-2 than I ever did on the SR-1. Mass Effect 2 makes an effort to make the player feel slightly alienated from the ship with it's vast corporate differences from the original Normandy. As you continue to play however the bond you share with your crew, despite them bearing the Cerberus logo, only continues to grow until it far surpasses the familiarity of the SR-1. This feeling is only further reinforced in that the SR-2 has a living, sentient personality in the form of EDI who goes on to form a strong bond with the possibly the most familiar aspect of the original Normandy, Joker.

I just wish the SR2 were blue. The silver inside was very boring.

Yeah, it kinda annoys me that the alliance took it upon themselves to confiscate a privately owned ship and do stuff to it, before the owner has even been to trial. Is the future Earth in the grip of a dictatorship? I mean, I turned myself in! And they STOLE MY SHIP!?

Not only did the thing cost Cerberus a lot of money before I rescued it from them, but how much money did I pour into it in terms of resources? It has state of the art EVERYTHING! You can't just go on eBay and buy one of these things!

All the wasted space on the SR2 annoyed me - like the random recess in MIranda's quarters; that could easily have been an en-suite bathroom. That random room between the lab and the bridge, what's that about? There was enough room for full crew quarters just sitting there around engineering; wall it off, get some stairs from the deck above and BAMN! No more pods for MY crew. And what is Grunt's room for? Zaeed's is obvious, but Grunt's seems to be a small cargo area... right next to the GIANT CARGO AREA. if they make good use of the space I'll forgive them for stealing my ship.

Maybe.

If the changes are awesome.

And Kaidan apologises for being an donkey the last time we met.

The owner is not Shepard, but instead a racist, terrorist, and mass murderer who leads a group of incapable ultranationalists. Both that group and their leader and any property that they have is illegal as hell.

Considering that the Alliance took it and disassembled it, studied it and then put it back togheter again, although now modified to server the needs of an Alliance warship. Well yeah I think it'll feel similar to the first Normandy again. Also the Cerberus logo has been removed and replaced with the Alliance one, a feature I just love. I'm looking forward to the new modified Normandy, it'll have new areas and the existing ones have been modified.

Does that say "SR2-A" on it? The Normandy has become the Mass Effect series' Enterprise! Now I *can't* give it up! But they need a captain's chair ala Kirk to really giver her some kick!

(actually, I kind of like the navigation gallery, I just wish it got a little more attention - that is, cinematic character - to really make it feel like the breathing heart of the ship; especially considering you'll probably be coordinating some very important battles from it in the 3rd game.)

Sure the SR-2 is a bigger, (and after a lot of upgrades) badder ship, but it never won my heart. It wasn't my ship, it was Cerberus' and it was full of spies, and not just the electronic type.
I think it would have been awesome if we'd gotten a new ship, possibly of alien make depending on how we played the previous games. Anything from a Geth to a Rachni ship or a human Cruiser.

In fact I wish one of the endgame goals would be to assemble a fleet that we would personally lead.
Maybe that's divergent from the type of game ME3 is turning out to be, maybe I'm a simulation nerd, what do you think?

When I compare the original Normandy to the newer, I remember just how cramped everything was. It may have been more maneuverable but the all around feel was limited. My crew was comfortable, Dr. Chakwas had an area to actually sit and room to enjoy a drink. Speaking of which, Shep could actually have some real down time. Exploring the original Normandy only had one area that I liked and that was the engine room with Tali watching the ME drive up close. The animation on it was great.

The new Normandy had my girl EDI, and even gave Joker some much needed comfort. The ship in general was a good leap forward that felt like things were falling into place for Shep. The man needed a vessel that was his. Remember how guilty he felt about "stealing" the Normandy away from Anderson. Shep had the freedom that came with having his own personal army. I don't know how the Alliance is going to change it but I hope it remains wholly unchanged. I have a feeling that that much talked about lounge is going to become very handy in the dark days that's coming.

This whole SR-2 thing was handled a bit too superficial in ME2. For example, first thing I did after resurrection was going to the citadel and see what use my SPECTRE status still is. I would never have gone there with a Cerberus vessel, but with a shuttle instead. Same for the trial. I would never have taken the SR-2 when turning myself in.

You could possibly explain that the SR-2 needs extensive repairs and funding for that, which can only be done by either the Cerberus, Council, or Alliance.

Cerberus: Now, if Cerberus had become a total enemy after destroying that collector base, they would probably try to get the SR-2 back from you. In my game, Cerberus maintained an uneasy alliance with Shepard, because he did the Overlord and Shadow Broker after base destruction. But my Shepard would probably too wary of Cerberus to put SR-2 into a Cerberus hangar for repairs.

Council: It is my understanding that the Council has no own funding, it is comprised of the funding of their member races. Which leaves only the Alliance.

Alliance: It makes sense for a pro-Alliance Shepard to hand the SR-2 over to the Alliance, for repairs and for further use, after the Trial. Shepard has to know that proof of the Reapers will turn up at some point and he just has to hope that it is not too late, then.

Still, there are alternatives for refitting which a renegade Shepard would have preferred. The Quarians come to mind. But maybe even with them, there could have been a funding problem.
Renegade Shepard would have remained a lone wolf fighter, distrusting anyone including the Alliance as long as they don´t recognize the truth about the reapers.

I really do hope that Bioware gives the issues around the SR-2 a little more attention!

This is how it probably gong to go down if the Alliance DARES give my fully upgraded, awesome Normandy, to Ashley:
Ash: So, since your new aboard, I'd like to show you around my ship...
Shep: You mean my ship!
Ash: Well actually, the Alliance gave this ship to me as a gift for being a specter, so things have changed a bit here.
Shep: Well, as I recall, I was the one who invested million f credits into this thing, took it to the collector base, and destroyed yet another reaper, and stopped the abduction of colonists that you people in the alliance were to useless to stop!
Ash: Well I' sorry but... (thud, she is pistol whipped)
Shep: Well, I am sorry that you have to keep on being such a ****, as that was I really good pistol Tali just cracked on your skull.
As: What?! How did Tali get in here? We imprisoned your crew when you were on trial!
Shep: Well luckily for Tali, she is really good at climbing through air ducts, honed i the collector base, while you were strutting around calling me a traitor. That, and having sex with me.
Ash: What, you cheated on me?!
She: As I recall, you dumped me on Horizon after calling me a traitor, even though I was saving human colonies.
Ash: I can't believe you cheated on me with a bucket head.. (thud, gets pistol whipped by Tali again)
Shep: k, you can quit talking you racist, as you're goin to the brig of MY ship, and Tali, Legion and I are going to kick some Reaper @SS!

You're EXTREME, bro.

Exploring a whole new new ship with a new style does sound fun. Normandy 2 will be new and different whith an makeover and with the Failberus logos washed away, but it will still be kind of the same. However Shepard is man/woman enough to have more than one ship. How about a smaller but more manuverable ship for special missions? Or a turian version of the Normandy concept? There has to be some of those around.

So that's why I always felt uneasy on those SR2 bathrooms........

Well EDI is SPYING on the bathrooms! All the time! Remember that she reminds you if you are the wrong gender for the bathroom you are in....

I like the SR-2 more just because of how much more accessible everything felt. I did think it was a little too spacious though, and the new drive core isn't nearly as cool as the old one. I mean I could just stare at the old drive core for minutes at a time, it was just plain cool.

Come on, don't be so self-conscious about the size. Most women don't really care about that.

Hmm... you know honestly I was not a fan of the SR-2 when it first was "given" to Shep. (Loved that Joker was still the pilot, made my day really) But after awhile it grew on me, and after all the upgrades i was like, OK after the suicide mission I was like this is MY baby now. Come on weaponry that can take out a cruiser on a frigate sized ship.

Don't get me wrong I liked the planetside SR-1 ability but with the Thrax cannon its like who needs planet fall on heavy G worlds when you can have that gun.

Incorrect. Legally it is owned by Cord-Hislop Aerospace, a legitimate company as far as the galactic community is concerned - confiscation of private property prior to trial, let alone conviction has to be suspect, if not outright illegal. The Alliance are NOT an ultimate authority in the Galaxy.

My Shepard certainly would have insisted on ownership - he doesn't trust Cerberus as far as he can throw them... although, judging by his super-strengh that's quite far...

Actually no. Indulging in illegal activitiy does not nullify your property rights. The ship is still nominally Cerberus. You could say that Shepard has stolen it from TIM, but then it would be the correct legal procedure for the Alliance to hand it back to him. Besides, it may be legally the Council's if Shepard is a Spectre, for he'd have the right to confiscate it.

So, whoever the ship's rightful owner is, the Council as Spectre Shepard's superior or TIM - the Alliance it isn't.

Also, what Wolf_in_the_Meadow said.
