No offence to any Kaidan fans.

I have always found Kaidan to be very boring and Generic; nothing really stands out about him. I found that it was a easy choice on Virmire. (although I didn't really like Ashley that much either) Does anyone else agree?

Note: This is a opinion. Don't get mad if you disagree with this opinion.

Edit: KaidAns name is fixed. Grammer ****s....Posted Image

I thought he was sweet myself....he is not an outstanding character to me, but is quite likable...I ran a femShep for the first time for hubby recently and enjoyed Kaiden's romance, lovely guy, real sweet heart.... he is my VS.

I didn't at first, but then I came around to appreciating hima lot.

I think he gives a lot of people the impression of being meek, but I see him as a "speak softly/carry a big stick" kind of soldier. Which I respect. He went through a truamatic experience as a child, and moved on. He deals with nasty side-effects of his L2 implant, and yet, he's serving as an officer in the Alliance and is said to have an impressive service record. He also notes that his biotic attacks are stronger with L2s. I've always felt that there's more "fire" in him than what meets the eye.

He also has an interesting back story. And he's quite friendly and approachable.

Overall I think he's a very fine character.

Who's Kaiden? I've always found KaidAn to be a very down to earth and interesting guy. He's also a hell of a squadmate.

A lot of people don't take to Kaidan immediately, I didn't really care for him one way or the other, and he died on Virmire on my first playthrough. But during subsequent playthroughs I really started to appreciate him more. After I created my six "canon" Shepards, three male and three female, he ended up being the LI of two of my FemSheps in ME1, and the unrequited LI of one of my ManSheps. One of my FemSheps even stayed true to him in ME2. I'd say give Kaidan another chance, talk to him with ManSheps and FemSheps, and really listen to what he has to say. Actually, it's a good idea to really listen to what ALL the characters have to say, for me that's the most enjoyable part of the game.

Honestly, I don't find any of the human squadmates all that interesting. At least Kaidan isn't a xenophobe, unlike Ash.

I respect Kaidan. He's down to earth, but he is also a little too trusting in the Alliance, I think. Maybe a little idealistic.

But to answer the OP's question: no, I don't find Kaidan all that interesting. He's like Jacob where neither of them need to be "fixed", and I respect that. But therein lies the "issue": people who don't necessarily like Jacob or Kaidan have no motivation to romance them because both soldiers are vanilla. But for Sheps who don't want any drama in a relationship, Jacob and Kaidan are good choices; they are strong willed, dependable (if you wish to exclude Horizon for Kaidan), and there is no drama. But I never got that "head over heels in love" vibe when I romanced Kaidan. Could be bad writing, but I doubt it.

This is just me, though. The kind of man Kaidan is really isn't my type. *shrug*

However, I do really like the conversation he and Shep has about Vernus, and the one following that one saying aliens are jerks and saints like us. It was well written, and that is where I grew to respect Kaidan. =]

It's Kaidan and no I don't find him very interesting either.

And Shepard claiming their close friends is ridiculous considering the dude never really wants to stop being professional. They're co-workers at best.
Everyone else calls Shepard...well Shepard save Kaidan. (except for the Normandy scene). Gee. We're such good buds you have to call me Commander when I'm talking to you as a friend? Riiight.

He's okay, not very interesting, true. Nice voice, though.

YOU JUST FRIGGIN' BLEW MY MIND. Not that the other characters need "fixing", but I just realised what people mean when they say that Kaidan is "uninteresting".

Exactly this for me.  Even more so after seeing some of the characters in ME2. They didnt have depth of background as those in ME. They really did feel like passing acquaintance for several of them, (especially those you recruit late on) where as with ME you built up a relationship during the course of the game.

I found myself really interested in chatting to Kaidan on my last play and was interested in hearing about his time at "brain camp".   It took time but he grew on me and I think hes actually one of my favourite characters now.

I didn't cared much about him until I did FemShep and go for romance with him.

I expected the same thing with Jacob.
I got disappointed.

Also it's Kaidan.

Spelling is the writing of one or more words with letters and diacritics. In addition, the term often, but not always, means an accepted standard spelling or the process of naming the letters. In the sense of a standard, spelling is one of the elements of orthography and a prescriptive element of alphabetic languages.

Spellings attempt to transcribe the sounds of the language into alphabetic letters, but phonetic spellings are exceptions in many languages due to several reasons... More

He's a bit bland, sure, but I found Ashley so irritating I've never ever picked her to survive Virmire. He can lift and neural shock things, and talking to him is optional - that's good enough for me!

He's among the last I need for the squadmate achievements and am playing him through ME1 on insanity right now. His stasis ability has proven very useful. and of course whenever a singularity appears on the battlefield I am appreciative.

I didn't like how when Femshep speaks nicely to him that that seemed to indicate a relationship. I just wanted some Paragon points. So I avoided him.

Given what I learned about his childhood, I'd think he'd have at least a little bit of anger in him. Others have mentioned that he's moved on and doesn't need to be "fixed" as if that were a point in his favor, but I think that's too weird. Too passive with injustice. I would not trust him.

I don't like Jacob either, perhaps for similar reasons.

In my opinion he has the best written backstory of any squadmate. It's quite intelligent and I love the lessons he learned from it and how he tries to show that to Shepard.

I always felt that the problem with Kaidan was how he was introduced. He doesn't really get a scene- he's just sort of that guy. If he had died instead of Jenkins, I wouldn't have been surprised. I don't think there's anything fundamentally wrong with Kaidan's character; but he never gets that moment to shine and let the player feel strongly for him. Obviously not everyone feels that way, but for me... I just can't pick him over Ashley. I suspect he'll make a strong comeback in me3, however. Hopefully he'll get his chance to shine, and make me feel bad for virmire.

I never liked any of the characters except my own Shepard at first. Then I grew to like Ashley. Then Wrex, Garrus, Joker and more recently Kaidan. More time spent with them, more likeable they get. If not by how interesting they are, then just by familiarity.

I actually always liked him better than Ash. That´s why I saved him the first times I played ME1 instead of Ash.
Then I saved Ash as well, for more variety.

Lol I was trying to learn his backstory a bit then he got all like "I LOVE YOU SHEPARD Posted Image" and now i am avoiding him to lol. Kind of sucks that you need to have a romance with him to just learn all of his backstory.

Kaidan is in my mind subtle and I like that. Even though my canon Shepard is strong willed etc he seems like the perfect man to support her. He's her rock.

Kaidan is growing on me. He is the kinda guy I would like in RL. But in a computer game, where things aren't realistic and tend to be extreme (like almost all the other squaddies) then I can see why he may blend into the background.

I don't understand the dislike for him though, he actually has a lot of depth. But he simply doesn't have the extreme personalities of those like Jack and Samara.

Also, he suits the new stubble ;)

I don't extremly dislike him, I just find he blends in the backround like you said. There is nothing special about him. His backstory is not very intresting in my opinion. As you said he is like a guy irl which is what I dislike about him; he is to generic.
