Doesn't making all the mages insane make the mage debate pointless?

Well, I learned Blood Magic can do everything, and mages have no willpower when the veil is weak.

Or when they're stressed.

Or when the Plot Says So.

Or when they're offered cookies.

I love this.

Yeah. It is pretty sadly funny.

Sadly, of course, since it's pretty much the entire point of the game. I'm surprised there's any adult mages in Thedas since teenage dating would surely have them all turned into terrible abominations and blood magic'ing mind controlling sex fiends.

I mean like every day there'd be 12 different versions of Carrie playing out at the different Circles.

It really didn't help that almost every mage we meet is insane, most for horrendous reasons if they can even be called that. Couldn't we have met some Circle mages that weren't insane?

Only ones that even come close outside of Bethany are Alain and Solivitus.

So it's decided then.

DA2 taught me that being a mage was no different than being sociopathic walking bomb.

Thedas is changed forever!

And being part of the Chantry means you're an incompetent idiot.

Next time Bioware wants me to care about this goddam continent when a blight or the Qunari come, they might need to do a better job.

But it's morally grey!

You're handed a knife and must pick between cutting off your left or right hand. You cannot stab the person forcing you to do this.

It's mature and innovative, damn you!

The whole thing was a mess. The fricken Saarabas was more level headed and intelligent than any mage in the game. And the guy'd been treated like an animal his whole bleeding life!

Saarebas was amazing. I love conversing with him every time after defending him from the Qunari.

At least he had enough sense to get out of Kirkwall, even if it was in a permanent manner.

I would not be surprised if Solivitus needed all this material to create a WMD or something.

I've always wanted this to happen in an RPG.

But perhaps I've played to many JRPG's and I'm just a little jaded on fetch quests.

The only way out of Kirkwall is in a permanent manner. The place is like Pleasantville. Everytime you walk down Main Street to leave the town you just end up on the other end of main street.

No character can leave it. Not even the prince of another city-state can leave it to go and rule over his own city-state.

It's really the setting for some terrible horrific magical experiement....or the Truman Show. The two are similar.

(Boyos, I am really enjoying this thread. This place has been dead for so long I forgot how much fun it was to come here.)

This thread is pretty epic. In just a few pages we've established ways the entire storyline could've been better.

I still think Act 2 and the Qunari could've been connected to the Mage-Templar conflict in some way. Not sure how though, as I'm only an amateur, and thus only decent, writer. KoP do you have any ideas on how the Qunari and Saarebas could've been connected to the Mage-Templar conflict?

I hope this thread doesn't get locked.

He seemed like he had his way with little boys and girls in his spare time to me. Something about him just gave me that vibe.

Not that I can think of at the moment, which is pretty late.
I prefer scrapping it completely, or just briefly hint at it at the end (maybe with a Qunari companion).

Danarius and his elven apprentice that he is grooming to be magister (which I still find almost too good to be true) just wanted me to leave this place and go to Tevinter, a more civilized place.

Ugh, I feel bad killing one and ruining the career of the other, just for Fenris who I do not really care about.

I think Maraas (Meraas?) from Blackpowder Promise will be the Tal-Vashoth companion to somebody in DA3, to provide us with their viewpoint.

I'll try and think of a way the Qunari could work for DA2 mage-Templar conflict. Maybe it'll come to me in a dream.

That's right everybody, TEWR is going to bed now. It's 4 am over where I am.

Why would they lock the thread? It's literally the only thread in the Story forum worth posting in.

At this point if a DLC came out and a Loki like God of Mischief was kicking up an improbable war while forcing people to be massive idiots at every turn....it would be for the benefit of the storyline.

I don't think the Qunari could fit in a Mage-Templar storyline. It's just not related enough. As is it's there in the game to stir up things. It creates a power vacuum and upsets the politics of Kirkwall.

...allegedly.

Since the Viscount clearly had no power and Meredith was always the de facto ruler of Kirkwall nothing really changed at all.

Even the Arishok's "we'll be back" thing isn't new since Sten told us they'd invade one day twice in the first game.

I don't think it lends anything to the Mage storyline. It's how a completely different culture deals with mages whereas the story isn't about the plight of mages in the Qunari (the only one who talks is quite devout in the Qun so it's not like they're trying to rebel). It's about the culture in Kirkwall and...I just don't see it fitting.

It's there to make Hawke Champion and give Orsino a bit of ammunition against Meredith.

The man is a bloody slaver, the letter he sends you if you let him take Fenris is chilling. Never mind the "elven apprentice" being Fenris' sister who sold him out for her....career. Never ONCE felt bad about letting Fenris gut that abusive monster. (Esp. thinking of Orana.....)

I do not care about all companions in DAO or DAII. But as much as Fenris may have annoyed some of my Hawkes, nobody deserves that fate. Never mind that letting Danarius walk away will lead to more people suffering like Orana did. Or her father, who was cut up by Hadriana. Or Danarius' other slaves.

/End rant.

Sorry about that but........ah, never mind me.

Fenris willingly sold himself for his sister. And yea I see where she is coming from. She's an elf. If she is not a magister, she is nothing. And if Fenris does not come back, then Danarius owes her nothign and could jus tdecide to kill her out of spite.

For me, seeing an elf becoming a magister beats Fenris' happiness. At least I would have felt Hawke accomplished something remotely useful.
And Orana suffering was an exception. Because surprise, the game needs more madness.

Bad thing for Fenris sure, and I can shed a tear or two. But for me, the elf losing her unique career is more tragic to me.

One of the things that turned me to be slightly more acknowledging of the lack of choice complaint is that a lot of the substantial personal choices I would cite are ones that really you need to be a monstrous Hawke to make. Like giving Fenris back to Denarius. Just WTF.

Thanks. I know that I'm in somewhat grey territory here given that I usually let Loghain live (Given his involvement in slavery dealings) . But there is NO reason to let Danarius walk away other than callous sadism while sparing Loghain actually is for the greater good and does not lead to further abuse, torture and slavery.
