Doesn't making all the mages insane make the mage debate pointless?

No more Logain talk in the Crazy Mage thread please! The DA:O board is a click away!

You know, it's kinda sad how much more interesting DA:O is than DA2. Regardless of opinion, Loghain is more interesting, naunced, and filled with intrigue than either Orsino or Meredith.

Part of this is because insanity is a catch-all for plot in DA2. (see I'm on topic)

The game doens't allow you to punch Alsitair in the face and throw him in a dungeon and then do the joining and see what happens.

Which is what I rp when I execute him, to make sense of it. That's he's taken to the dungeons, and then executed when Loghain is made sure to be alive.

It's for King Alistair, if you put him on the throne. I don't exile him so I don't know if Eamon still says it then.

Or even if he's executed.

I never heard that. :/

castle redcliffe, as soon as you can walk around. Talk to Eamon.

I can't stand sparing Loghain though. Youtube it for me? Please? *puppy eyes*

I execute Loghain and RP it that we threw him in the dungeon and had a public execution where his crimes were read outloud and the whole shebang. ^_^ Because beheading him in the throne room is only something my CEs would do. My HNs would want everything stripped from him first then execute him publically.

They were still slaves.

And for me, and for a lot of people, that's the bottom line.

Heck, you can't sell Anders out to the Templars as a violent, mentally unstable Abomination, but you CAN sell Fenris back to Denarius for no goddamned good reason.

You don't even get that much gold for him.

There is something seriously wrong with this picture.

That's because you're heading down the plot railroad. Choo Choo!

Really, I can't get over how little Fenris sells for. 5 gold? I punch demons in the face with stuff worth more then 5 gold. The price of lyrium-enfused slaves sure isn't what it used to be.

Except you see him being beheaded, while Alistair is just taken away.

I suspect that preprations for the execution take time.

Killing him while his honor was in doubt, with papers in hand that prove he was selling Fereldens to foreign interests, allowing blood mages to poison arls, overstepping Chantry law, and generally being overly paranoid about phantom Orelsians while the country falls to the Blight he doesn't believe exists.

And Ali's reasons are as clear as day. Loghain's responsible for Duncan's death and the persecution of the Wardens while Ferelden falls to a Blight.

The Orlesian threat is REAL.

And if anyone is responsible for Duncan's death, it's Cailan and his glory hunting/being "bored" by strategy. Never mind the delayed beacon. Never mind that Duncan was mortally wounded seconds after the beacon was lit. (Unless more time passed between cutscenes than they hint at) Had Loghain charged on horses or on griffins, he couldn't have saved Duncan or Cailan.

The Orlesian threat is not real. It honestly looks like (thanks to Return to Ostagar) that Cailan and Celene were having an affair and that the good king was about to dust off his likely barren peasant-linage wife for the Empress. And then Loghain kills him off through betrayal.

Would it have ended the Blight? Maybe, who knows. There's also the fact that Loghain'd already poisoned Eamon and the knights of Redcliffe hadn't arrived because of it. Had they been there too there'd have been a greater chance of success.

So 4 LEGIONS at the border are imaginary? Right.

Anora is the daughter of a teyrn and there is no proof that she is barren. NONE. It's more likely that Cailan had bad swimmers, given that none of his mistresses bore him children either. And Celene is much OLDER than Anora.

So no, the betrayal theory doesn't work for me. Not based on that. Besides, he could have killed Cailan much more easily/in less suspect circumstances. Never mind him urging Cailan to stay away from the front lines.

Pretty sure he tells you he's gone hardened or not. (assuming you don't mention him and Anora getting married).

Didn't Zevran sell for 6 gold? And he was a skinny little scrap of an elf who hardly knew how to hold a dagger? While Fenris is this lyrium-infused super-warrior? Danarius is a cheap old man.

Told, not shown. I can rp that my Warden sent the executioner a message to wait for a bit.

Sure, headcanon. But when the game already broke my immersion when it limited my options to unrealistic levels, it essentially told me that Loghain will live. So the possibility of him dying has no bearing to the choice, since yuou are limited in your ways to deal with it.

You know, the only sane enemy you fight in the entire game is the Arishok?

The rock-things in the Thaig are apparently hunger driven and have no personality. Orsino is Veil-thinned into being a complete monster and Meredith has a nice idol-sword that keeps her from rational thought.

That's really not interesting.

Insanity is interesting in small bits. Or when you see someone slide into insanity. There's none of that in DA2. There's no Lady McBeth.

Nor is there a Joker character who's insanity is entertaining (and the entire point of the character).

Even Anders' insanity at having Justice inside him is woefully handled. He Hulks out what 2 times maybe 3? In 7 years? And then depending on how you treat him he comes up with bomb plot or Justice forced him to do it.

It's just not interesting. It is, however, a great way to destroy me looking at Anders from Awakening as anything other than lost cause.

They were sent a message to turn back.

They did not, they camped at the borders.

Which goes to show that Wardens are failures.

Oh yeah I forgot. Hardened Alistair demands the crown instead of threatening to leave.

Wait...he does say flat out that he's gonna leave. Did the whole "You want Loghain in the Wardens so badly then I'll be leaving." go over head or something?

Uh huh. Sure. That's as stupid of said king if Vercingetorix had asked Caesar for help against invaders. Those legions don't move an inch to stop the Blight. Nor do the Orlesian Wardens except Riordan. Do they just not......care?

They camped at the borders for when Fereldan got its ass kicked the Archedemon wouldn't get too far into their country.

And yet they didn't invade a ruler-less nation whose army was completely wiped out at Ostagar.

The threat wasn't real.

I dont' remember. Eh in any case, it doesn't matter.

@ Persephone
I am curious now. Why do you admire Caesar so much then?
Did he not cause the death of almost a million Gaul? He probably enslaved tens of thousands in the process.
Why don't you despise him when he furthered Rome's oppression on free people?
