In ME2 I romanced Tali but then she died on the suicide mission. What will this bring to the table for ME3? I'm betting there will be some sad Sheppard scene. I hope they acknowledge such an event as having a lover die.

Shepard's going to weep a single tear before jackhammering the next women/man he can find.

U dont just romance tali, get her killed, and walk away from it...

there will be lots of sad in me3 during the quarian-related moments of the game.

I'm sure there will at least be a mention. It might come up as a reason to stall the ME1 LI- still in mourning, still in love, etc etc. Good for Shepards who enjoy a little pathos in their playthroughs.

Don't be silly, Bioware protagonists don't cry. ;P

You'll get a scene before you enter the courthouse; Shepard muttering to himself, "Damn, I really should have reloaded my save..."

And you'll be standing in the rain outside the Tali's-alive party Image IPB No worries, you'll have company, that's just grea- err... Well, you'll have company.

They'll probably take a lesson from the DA team and have her alive no matter what ala Leliana.  Then set their jars out to collect the tears of the tali haters.

I did this with Jacob on one playthrough, so I am looking forward to it.  She also cheated on Kaidan, so I am hoping for some really awkward "cheating!" dialogue.

Kaidan:  How could you cheat on me with that guy?!
Shepard: He's dead, you jackass.
Kaidan: Oh crap.
::long and awkward silence::
Shepard: Right, well, I'm going to go bang Joker now.  ::rides away on the Rachni Queen::

I'm thinking if he died it will have "cancelled out" the romance so to speak and it won't even be mentioned.

I wonder if I'm the only one who doesn't give a damn about romances in ME....

Though I think it will be acknowledged, expect to be disappointed. Your lovers death will probably mean a single, short dialogue sequence. Then Shepard brushes it off and braves forward. The animation wouldn't probably fit a too serious scene anyway. I mean, at least my Shepards expressions seem to be limited to =I and *rapeface*.

Did you want to kill her? Because you know it's easily avoidable if you didn't...

If your LI died, when it's imported, it will behave like you never had a romance to begin with. All you did was recruit them and they died on the suicide mission.

Troll posts aside, there's actually some good potential with this...

Imagine if Shepard started a romance with Ashley in ME1, then she died on Virmire. Shaken, he turns to Tali as he's rebuilding his life on the SR2, finding solace in a companion he didn't know cared for him from the start. He then consummates the relationship, only to lose Tali in the suicide mission because he trusted her tech skills and he thought Zaeed, with his years of leading mercenary teams, would be a good choice to lead the first fire team.

Blaming himself for both Ash and Tali's deaths, how do you think Shepard would deal with advances from Liara or any other potential LI in ME3?

No, those choices aren't optimal for the player, but WOW, that makes for a powerful storyline.

Liara: Shepard, I've loved you ever since the fight against Saren... I sacrificed so much just for the *chance* to bring you back. I've watched you ever since you came back and felt every ounce of your pain as my own. Please... can't you find a place for me at your side?

Shepard: ... Liara, I... no... I just... EVERYONE I've ever cared for has died right in front of my eyes. I can't.... I just, the thought of...

Liara: Shepard, hush, don't go there... *eyes go black,* stay here, right here in this moment...

That would make for some interesting story potential. Honestly though I doubt it'll be much more than a couple lines of different dialogue at most.

Off-Topic -
I kinda hope that Liara isn't available in ME3 though if Shepard already turned her down before. If they give us the ability to decide what happened in the past two games like in a genesis comic then we could still pursue every possible LI without having to go through ME1 & 2 again. Having more conversations build up to a relationship would just be redundant for any previous romances. With the VS I could see some reconciliatory dialogue (or perhaps a new build up if Bioware makes them bisexual).

Well, hopefully they'll handle it better than they did in LotSB... not my video but here is an example of how LotSB dealt with dead ME2 LIs

Course that isn't a true representation of the scene because moar editted in the flashback of Jacob death but basically put LotSB didn't acknowledge the death of an ME2 LI. I've had similar result myself where a FemShep cheated on Kaidan with Garrus then Garrus died, went and did LotSB afterwards and Liara asked if Shepard looking to find peace for Garrus...

Interestingly enough the only times where I've got a dead ME2 LI is where cheated... the one mentioned above and one which I've not finished yet where a FemShep is cheating on Liara with Thane who will then end up dead. Going to do LotSB post-SM and see if Liara mentions him in the paragon interupt scenes during the mission. I imagine I'll have to put up with it.

I would like to know what will happen. If she brings up her jealousy line, when the ME2 LI is dead, that would be one awkward scene.

Liara does NOT acknowlegde if the ME2 LI is dead. So you will get the jealousy line from her during LOTSB. And if you invite her up to the cabin (friendship apth) she will even wish the best for both Shepard and his dead LI!

Mei Shepard romanced Thane but died in SM for dramatic effects in ME3.

Venus Shepard romanced Jacob but died in SM. I decided to give Jacob another chance and replayed SM with him alive.

You remember that movie A League of Their Own, where Tom Hanks starts ranting

"Are you crying?  THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!"

Similar concept:

"THERE'S NO CRYING DURING A REAPER INVASION!"
