The Rachni (if you saved them) will be an ally but at the same time the Reapers will have more that they can use against us at the same time; thus meaning the Paragons have more **** to clean up and deal with.

However if I had to give a list of people that would say something along those lines of ""Shepard, you should have killed me when you had the chance.."" think about it for a second...Try and picture some of the people talking like that....Kirrahe wouldn't sound right saying that, neither would Harkin....The Turian Councilor wouldn't either, and neither would Shiala....Balak makes sense but at the same time not so much as he just -vanished- and its too predictable.. I would say Kai Leng but he isn't in the games yet; and it would be directed to Anderson not Shepard...

Wrex...you could hear him saying it in a haunting tone; but why would he?...Hes either dead or your ally..

Now what I can feel is one of four* things...

1.) The VS is a Reaper Cyborg just like Saren...Think about it...The Collectors purposefully paralyzed them but left them on Horizon...Not to mention they had a RANDOM attitude problem with your Shepard regardless of how "Paragon" or "Lovey" they claimed to be with you...They basically assaulted you and gave you no remorse for your actions..A possiblity that they are indoctrinated and set to become the next "Saren"...That and a lot of people hated Kaiden/Kaidan(whatever) for being what most claimed a bit of a whiner; where as some disliked Ashley for various reasons that get the fan-girl/boys up in a damn flushed rage. So this is a real possibility...

2.) Rana wouldn't make a great deal of sense due to her naturally fearful personality; and wouldn't you think its a bad idea to leave one scientist alive? She was kind of like Conrad Verner..would you kill him just for being ****ing annoying and possibly trying to act like you further in ME3? Meh - rule this one out; probably not her.

3.) In some small theory it could be Nhilius (sp) because we never found out what happened to the body after Shepard left. For all we know someone could have pulled a fast one on us and stolen it; then again its probably impossible so **** this idea.

4.) Finally we come to the most likely two ideas... Saren or Boob-ez-ia. Either of these are likely the one to listen for...Saren because its a good theory that Nazara (sp) made a "Back up" of his mind for the soul fact that he was one of the best agents alive. He could have been revived a "third" time so to speak just to stop Shepard - by not by Nazara this time; maybe someone else....Or if anything Benezia (sp) could have been put in some form of dormant state to make her appear dead; thus why she didn't see "a light". Liara might not have been there with you - so this is a real possibility...She could even be used against you as leverage to corrupt Liara or something...

My sense of disbelief would be stressed if it is the Virmire Survivor who turns against me, but if they do it will I can see it being plausible.

My sense of disbelief would utterly shatter with the force of an atomic blast if it was Saren. They amount of explanation required for him still being alive or resurrected is just too great for me to accept. I shot Saren, Saren shot Saren, Wrex shot Saren, Saren turned into a robot, we all shot Saren some more, then Joker indirectly shot Saren at which point Saren DISINTEGRATED and had the corpse of a Reaper land on his ashes.

Saren is about as dead as something can be. For him to somehow come back after all that would be more lame than a Final Fantasy boss.

I think it's going to be somebody that we had the choice to kill. It wouldn't make sense if the person said, "you should have killed me when you had the chance" when we never actually had that choice. Wrex would be an option that most players have, although it would be fairly unbelievable considering he's loyal to you. 

It doesn't sound like something the Rachni Queen would ever say. I think Helena Blake or Fist are the most plausable. Both have been...low key in ME2. They could have been scheming.

It might well be that the encounter involves the other character being indoctrinated or otherwise horrified/tortured to the point of wishing for an earlier death.

Rachni queen. Aside from looking like a reaper, the rachni have been indoctrinated previously. They also have the ability to control others, which reminds me of reaper indoctrination.

I really hope its Balak.    Letting him go could be a costly mistake indeed.  It be nice for the renegades to see to if their stance in allowing the hostages to die was the correct decision overall.

It may well be "Dr. Wayne"... The Cerberus scientist that researched Thresher Maw acid effect on humans and caused the Akuze incident with Armistan Banes...

You may save him from an angry Toombs, and in ME2 you hear he is in Alliance custody and has been promised immunity at the price of betraying his fellow Cerberus agents... But the Alliance is in ruins with the coming of the Reapers, a good moment to escape... And Cerberus now is with the Reapers... So maybe... We'll see...

Or maybe "Major Kyle" finally went actually totally insane...

How can it be Balak? It's unfair if you haven't downloaded BDtS. It will have to be somebody that you have to let live but in the dialogue he says he'll kill.

On that note, does anyone know exactly who wrote what? I know Chris L'Etoile wrote Noveria, so if we can find out what Mr. Weekes wrote, we'll probably discover which big choice this sentence corresponds to.

What could Balak possibly do that would make him say that to Shepard? It certainly doesn't sound too pleasant. I, for one, take the line to be a sign of regret on the speaker's part, which is why I believe it's the Rachni Queen.

While it's true they are minor assignments, Dr. Wayne and Major Kyle are pretty central from a roleplay and story perspective for Sole Survivor and Ruthless Shepards respectively (War Hero Shepards alredy killed his/hers, Elanos Haliat, so I guess for him/her they are a bit minor)...

BioWare confirmed background would count, so I just guessed they could be it... ;P

There is no proverbial I in Rachni.

The Queen always refers to herself as  "we" or "us", but then again Weekes did say he did alter the context somewhat.

True, although I have my doubts about Shepard's background counting this time: just look at a Sole Survivor in ME2.

I am ready for whoever wants to fight me in ME3 including the Rachni (geno****e data saved <trollface to raknii> and Balak won't be a big problem, as probably 90% of batarians are dead. I suspect Shiala though. According to one of ME books, Reapers indoctrinate by spreading nanites which get into "victim's" organism, nerve-system and brain and allows such a Reaper for direct control (assuming direct control >.<) via quantum entaglement communication system (yeah, cerberus have got it from the reapers). Yet, I've killed dozens of angry asari biotics, so she won't be any sort of challange although there is no idea if she is indeed working for Feros colonists.

Okay, so this implies that the character not only could die as a consequence of Shepard's action, but could be killed by Shepard. And it also implies, in my humble opinion, that character had either:
a) a grudge of some kind
was an enemy of Shepard

Based on this, the most likely candidate is Wrex in the case where, because of your actions in ME/ME2, you've sided against the Krogan and supported the genophage. You can kill Wrex on Virmire.

Balak, no need to explain this one.

Rana and Shiala, possibly. But they don't seem such important characters, unless their action prior to ME3 have great consequences. Fist, too, maybe?

Or, of course, it could be a light-hearted joke... you know, Conrad Verner.
