Any word on Xbox 360 controller support for PC version?

I think every single game (aside from obvious mouse+keyboard games like Starcraft II and Civilization 5) that has come out in the past 2 years on PC has had support for an Xbox 360 controller.  But the past few Bioware games (Dragon Age: Origins and 2, and Mass Effect 1 and 2) haven't had it.  I understand that the UI that they use for the PC version is slightly different from the console, and I understand it takes some non-zero amount of time and effort to put Xbox 360 controller support in, but come on! :)   You have the time to put in Kinect support!

I'm going to buy your game either way of course, but I VASTLY prefer playing with a controller.  But I like getting it on PC instead of my Xbox because of the superior graphics and framerate and I'm really looking forward to all the new graphics and effects you've added in Mass Effect 3.  I also don't know if you'll do multi-DVD again, but it's a lot better on PC to just have it all installed.

Okay, that's my rant.  Any word on support for this?

Any word on you learning to use search to find the other threads asking the same question, instead of posting yet another one?

The more threads the better. Everyone knows that adding Xbox controller support on the Unreal engine is elementary, so not adding it is the equivalent of saying "we developed this game so it would pass minimal quality assurance standards, and spent the rest of the money on marketing, hookers and blow".

Anyway I can't believe we're discussing this in 2011. You'd think a PC gamer could at least play his shoddy console ports the way they were meant to be played (spoiler: with a gamepad).

I just typed xbox360 controller into the search above and the most recent post is 3 months old and talking about Dragon Age 2.  I admit my searching skills aren't up to snuff, but wouldn't it just be easier to answer the question than send me on a fruitless search?  Also, my post is sort of a request for them to add support, not just asking if it's in there, since I honestly don't know if there is updated information on the matter...especially since new control schemes are happening all the time (Kinect was announced at E3 for example).

You just had to type the word "controller" into the search engine and you would have found several threads on the topic :-

I personally would rather have Bioware concentrate on perfecting the controls for the PC's native control scheme i.e. the mouse and keyboard.  If you wish to play Mass Effect with a controller then your wish is already catered for in the form of the console version.  I want to play the PC version which means I want them to concentrate 100% on the PC's control scheme.

At any rate Bioware has said nothing with regard to implementing joypad support into the PC version.  Hopefully they will take the same line with Mass Effect 3 that they did with Dragon Age 2 and that is "the interface is designed for mouse and keyboard therefore there will be no joypad support".

Regardless of new/old thread debate this is something I would like to see supported in ME3

I guess, but this doesn't really make sense.  They're concentrating on all the versions, so they already have time devoted to the gamepad control scheme.  They've spent time shoehorning in Kinect support.  They may even spend time putting in Move support later.  As I said in the OP, I literally cannot think of a game in the past 2 years other than Bioware games and clear mouse+keyboard games (like Starcraft), that doesn't have controller support.

I don't see why you wouldn't get that someone could consider the PC version superior (for its graphics, load times, etc.) yet still prefer to play with a controller.  If anything, Mass Effect originally came out in 2007 solely for Xbox, and was later ported over to PC 6 months later.  The core of the game IS DESIGNED with a controller in mind as it's a 3rd person cover based shooter.

Yup theres been plenty of threads started about this. My reply from them below:

This is about the 5th thread on gamepads in the last week or so. Shows that people would like the option.

Im
all for it aslong as the PC UI and controls dont suffer (ME2 didnt have gamepad support and the controls sucked...no mousewheel support, no double clicking etc) so the argument that gamepad support would be bad for the PC controls is moot.
A simple option to toggle from M+K PC UI to gamepad+console UI is all thats needed imo.

PC gaming allows us many options. Limiting those options is a detriment to pc gaming.

Like many others i would like to occasionally sit back and relax using a  gamepad rather than sitting close over the K+M.
Also people who only have a laptop may want to play using a gamepad too. So many scenarios.

Doesnt mean gamepads are better as its all personal preferance in the end.

I dont see it being too much to ask just for the option as most multi-platfrom games have the gamepad option now.

Yes the franchise may have started on the console but the PC version was specifically DESIGNED to work with a mouse and keyboard.  I don't see why it being a "3rd person shooter" should make it work any worse with a mouse and keyboard, I would say a game that relies so heavily on shooting is actually better with a mouse but there you go.

The reason I do not want joypad control in the PC version is because I would much rather Bioware concentrate in improving the PC's native control scheme.  I want the game designed around the mouse and keyboard, that is not going to happen if they cater for the minority of joypad users as well.

At the end of the day I want to play the PC version of Mass Effect 3, I do not want to play the console version on the PC with a joypad.

Nope it shows that people do not know how to use a forum.  Most of the joypad topics die within 3 pages so I wouldn't say that is evidence that joypad support in the PC version is an absolute "MUST" for a lot of people.

ME2 controls sucked because they didn't have enough invested in the PC port to care. Adding 360 pad support on the Unreal engine is a coding problem for ****ing pre-schoolers. It doesn't detract from anything.

Was hoping for this option as well. If only for the reason that I wanted to play it on my 42" instead of my 24", and my keyboard/mouse isn't really suited for armchair gaming. + The game alreasy feels a little bit consoleish so it is weird that it doesn't support the controlsystem, especially when it is available on a 360. In the end I ended up playing Witcher2 with a 360 controller instead. But yes, please add this option in a future update, or at least consider supporting MOUSE+KEYBOARD/GAMEPAD in DA3. Regarding the "making new threads", I found a 3 month old thread and didn't feel like necroposting.

Xpadder is awful, Pinnacle profiler allows for better context controls (tap, hold, on release, etc.). Never tried joy2key though.

What we really need on PC is more hotkeys. I don't understand why I after 2 games I can't play real-time while having all abilities (shepard and squad) at my disposal.

Insightful addition to the conversation, thank you.

I would really like 360 controller support for the PC too. Almost all modern games support it out of the box, Skyrim and Arkham City being 2 recent examples. As soon as you touch anything on the controller it automatically changes from the PC interface to console interface. If you touch the KB or mouse it switches back to PC interface seamlessly.

No, it's because devs usually **** up implementing basic quick keys and mouse support.  The 360 pad is a finely designed game pad and is usually supported better than kb/m with console ports.

@ Bendok....even Resident Evil 5, a 2009 game, had on the fly kb/m to 360 pad switching.  If a multiplatform game doesn't support it, it's pure laziness from the studio.

Yes, I liked Skyrim's implementation off hopping back and forth from K/M and controller.

I just like to sometimes move my PC into the theater room and play on the big plasma. A controller is easier to use in a recliner but I can make do with wireless keyboard and mouse.

Well that is ignorant.  I am not an "elitist" but I like controllers for certain games.  Why do you feel the need to label people?
