Joker: I wanted to smack him the entire time in both games. Snark is fine, but Joker is kind of an idiot when he's not actually flying a ship. When he wouldn't abandon the Normandy, and got Shepard KILLED as a result—man, I just couldn't look at Joker the same way anymore. It's a SHIP Joker. Ugh.

I take it you've never had a family members, relatives or friends who served in the Navy or Air Force? Or never read much about Naval military warfare in the last 400+ years of human history?

Captains and often their crew become very emotionally attached to the ship they serve aboard... Enlisted men  (and now women)  spend more time aboard a ship than they do their traditional home.. let alone dry land, ... their ship becomes their home.... yet it is far more than a home, it often becomes almost like a living entity to them.

They rely on that ship to keep them alive through murderous storms - to hold together and keep them safe when being barraged by enemy fire - to get them to the next port alive. The ship is their lifeline... take care of the ship, and it will see you through safely home.

The nature of that lifestyle often (but not always) creates that life-like bond between a naval officer / crewman and their ship.... Joker is no exception to this rule.

If anything, Joker's attachment is even more understanding... he's disabled - he can't run or do other physical activities your average person can... the ship to him would be like an extension - it grants him a great degree of movement & freedom... something healthy people take for granted (being able to get up out of your chair to take a ****** without fear of breaking your legs, for example).

So when Joker sees the Normandy dying, it hits him hard.... it's hard for him to let go of it.

The old addage where "Captain goes down with his ship" is no myth.... countless naval captains in human history have willingly gone down with their ship... partly to ensure the safe escape of their crew before allowing themselves to leave, and partly because many of them had a hard time accepting the loss of their charge.. their ship.

For me, the top pick is easily Miranda you first meet her, and she says "I'm never wrong." Literally like one investigate later (like when you first get on the Normandy), she's like "remember Sheperd. Even I make mistakes."
Can't you even remember what you said earlier? Why does she act like I'm supposed to value what she says? I barely even know her, and even if I did. I may not even like her, so it's a little arrogant to phrase a sentence like that. Why is it that she's a "great leader," but we've literally seen nothing from her that shows leadership qualities? The only thing we know about for her leadership was Lazarus, and while it *was* a success, but it was more so from straight up luck. What if Sheperd was still groggy and couldn't aim at all, or his/her face fell off and died right there? What if Sheperd wasn't as good at combat as they thought he/she was? As 2nd in command, she never greets the new people that board the ship. Ever. Jacob does. The only person she greets is Jack, and she talks to her in a completely condescending tone like it's preschool or something: "on this ship we follow orders." Like really? I wouldn't like someone either if they talked to me that way.

How am I supposed to take her seriously when she flip flops all over the place. One second she acts like a confident jerk, and then the next second she's a vulnerable daisy? Which one is she? Both? I know people have multiple sides, but she's just literally all over the place. And it's really jarring how ME2 carries this out.

Second is Grunt. I just really hate ultimate lifeforms, and I know this'll sound silly, but Shadow the Hedgehog has forever ruined that for me. Sorry Grunt. Also, your voice is Steve Blum. This makes me feel compelled to use nothing but pistols when Grunt is there and hum "Tank." Also "Let's get started! Push the keystone!" NO! I want to collect the stuff first. There might be upgrades.

That's pretty much it. More or less.

I personally think there probably would have been a much higher death count if Joker hadn't stayed at his post contining evasive tactics, the Normandy wouldn't have lasted as long as it did...I believe he did the right thing....he saved a lot more lives.

I have a hard time taking Joker being in the military seriously in the first place. You can't join the military if you can't pass boot camp and there is no way in hell Joker could ever pass boot camp. In fact his crippling condition contributed to Shepard's "death" as well as the outcome of the Collector attack.

Kaidan's personality and backstory was so lackluster it hurt. The droning discussions involving his baggage from his adolescent days were mood dampeners and largely unintriguing. Perhaps if he talked more forwardly about the goals he wanted to achieve in the future of his lifetime my interest would have reeled in a bit and I could have felt more connection with who he was and what he was all about. Kaidan seemed too prone to indecision.

But on the other hand, I like Ashley for all the reasons people seem to dislike her most: her love of poetry, her faith, her distrust of aliens and the fact that she's an opinionated dragon. Ashley's a character who has room to grow, take charge, change her mind and won't care what anyone thinks while she's doing it.

I can't say that there is a specific character I can't take seriously.

However, I have romanced Miranda once or twice in my many play throughs, and always kinda regret it during the scene after the Collectors abduct the crew. The way she just snaps at Joker when he really was not in any position to help, and had no idea how the situation could have been avoided, just really irks me. To be honest, the scene makes me kind of wish there was an option for Shepard to say something along the lines of, "Miranda, if I had to choose between you and Joker over who is valuable to me and this crew, you would be heading out the airlock."

I don't really take romance with Tali or Garrus seriously... far too many differences, makes little sense to me. Garrus is absolutely one of my favourite characters but none of my sheps romance him... it would never work.

Generally there's no character that I find to be especially implausible. They all are to an extent and that's fine.

Joker deserves to be court-martialed.

Shepard: Come on, Joker, we have to get out of here. (direct order)

Joker: No. (disobedience of orders of the superior officer, which directly resulted in the officer's death.)

No ship, no matter how awesome, not even Destiny Ascension, is worth killing your captian over. Ships can be rebuilt - captains, not so much (unless you're Cerberus with the keys to the Hades where the lost souls are dwelling.) Shepard's the captain of the ship here, the one who goes down with the ship. And he does it to save a member of his crew, not because of some misplaced sense of affection for a scrap metal.

No wonder Joker's not with the Alliance anymore. No ship would probably have him, what captain would want to be killed like Shepard was? I don't think we need Joker on Normandy in ME3, too. EDI can manage the ship without anyone's help. I never really liked Joker, even though he's got an awesome episode with EDI. He's ultimately very selfish and cold person, probably because he's been through hell with his illness. He is, however, a perfectly valid character.

Kelly, on the other hand...She's too meta. Always making fun of the tropes out loud. It's like she's a writer's commentary.

Samara was precisely the character I couldn't take seriously. I mean, this is even worse than being a Spectre. I wouldn't want to live on the planet where Justicars are allowed to roam free. I'd be constantly terrified. What if you appear to be doing something wrong, or just hesitate to get out of her way, and she'll just off you without a court. And she never doubts her ways. She's just too flat to be real. I wish she was never in the game, so that Jack's ability to hold the barrier would have some real significance.

For my part, I can't take the male shepard or 'broshep' seriously. It might sound shallow but I can't stand that ugly-ass face. And I absolutely LOATHE that voice! Trying to sound tough is not what makes a protagonist tough. That should be painfully obvious after Christopher Bale played Batman.

There are just too many moments, when broshep makes me cringe and want to go back to femshep. Everytime he shouts at Kal'reegar to stand down or slams the table during his oh-so-memorable peptalk to the crew before assaulting the collector base, I feel like vomiting.

Ever since my first playthrough I have found broshep to be so dull, bland and uninteresting, and he's just a typical white male, american hero stereotype designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I only play broshep for the romances. To me, there's only one commander Shepard. And Jennifer Hale be thy name.

Also, I can't take Liara seriously for the exact same reasons. In my opinion, Shiala would have made a much more appealing squad mate. Better looking by far, I liked the voice better, and to me, she had a much MUCH more interesting backstory. It would have made much more sence, and I would take Shiala over Liara any day.

And Grunt: Ridiculous character and also a major pet peeve for me. He should never have been a squad member. There was absolutely no reason not to bring Wrex back as a squadmember. Period.

You think a 90 pound preschool teacher with arms the size of a 5 year old, wearing what has to be 60+ pounds of armor, with her "Not tonight, honey. I have a headache" voice, is more believable? Uh, Oooooooookay...

I would like to have a SB heart to heart with Joker for 3 I mean he killed me! and no I'm sorry, my life was nearly ruined sense then, I should've fallowed your order, nothing! I want to bash his skull in! He was the only reason I died!

Kelly seems to now have ptsd I would be surprised to find her on my ship her happy self again and if I do find her in that state I'll be watching her like I do Legion she'll probably try to kill me or another crewmember during 3.

Samra's code is odd. It's like a game she only knows the rules to. I would like to get documents on this code to better understand where I'm going wrong or right. I don't like the her eyes only code going on it's suspicious.

Indeed s/he did.... remember the scene where s/he's helping joker into the escape pod? Shepard gets HALFWAY into the pod, helping joker.... heard a loud bang behind her (in space?.. uh ok) looks behind her RATHER THAN GETTING INTO THE DAMN POD and proceeds to stare for a few seconds at the destruction.... don't mind the fact Joker is waiting to close the door and get the frack out of dodge... let alone saving your own hide... and of course that idiotic decision causes her to get blown away from the hatch and is doomed to die.

So ... yeah... Shep's death, totally her own fault... I was half tempted the first time I saw that to scream "Stupid b!tch, get in the pod!" :D

Nah, it's just the fact that the Collectors were only after Shepard. Her dead was good enough for them.

If Shep had gotten in that pod, her body would have been unsalvagable and Joker would have died too.

Before ME2 came out I thought I was going to love Thane. Assassin with a badass longcoat? Yes please! But he turned out to be boring.

I couldn't take Kelly seriously. She did NOTHING. Psychologist? Please. Mordin is hyperactive? I DID NOT KNOW THAT, PLEASE TELL ME MORE, CAPTAIN OBVIOUS. And the fact that she wanted to have sex with everyone didn't help either.

And Tali. But I might be biased because I hate her.

I don't care particularly about the LI part. It's not essential to the story anyway.

Miranda: a personality would be nice. I found her appearance a bit repulsive and not just because of the pleather. It's too "perfect", but then that was her father's ideal. Ditch the pleather and add some character.

Jack: I agree she's Riddick with an attitude. Now that she's dealt with the ghost of her past, let's dial back the attitude. Oh, and how about some clothes: at least a leather vest to wear on board ship, and some body armor during missions.

Garrus: Do you have any family? Or are you just a vigilante? Yes I know you did all this to rebel against your father, but you seem older now. So how about a little mellowing?

Jacob: your typical soldier. Fine.

Liara: Liara became the bad ass because the best friend she made after you died is being tortured by the Shadow Broker. She lost you and her closest friend. She got educated that the universe isn't fair and is a dangerous place. Actually I think she's doing fine especially after LOTSB.

Tali: You think Tali could show you a picture of what they look like under the suits. They must have some in their archives in the Flotilla. And that bartender in Eternity remembered what they looked like, too. It should be no secret. Come on. But other than that, I think her voice is fine because it's filtered by the suit and out a small speaker (think how Shep's voice sounds with a helmet). I think her character is fine.

Samara: give her a zipper and we're done.
Morinth: she's more modest than Samara??? I'll admit it. I have a serial killer on board ship in one play through. I wanted to unlock Domination -- real ammo saver.

Ashley & Kaiden: I never was particularly interested in either of them. Unless my character was a soldier, I consistently saved Ashley in ME1. Both of them should have known that Shepard's a SPECTRE in ME2, and that his/her being resurrected as the several billion credit human would have lots of strings attached. Or would they have preferred still dead?

Kelly: was it really necessary to romance her to get her to feed the fish so they wouldn't die if you forgot to go up and hit the button? And was it even necessary to have to feed the fish period. Couldn't we have been able to at least purchase a "feeding timer" for the fish tanks? She's the Admin Asst. She should have been on a professional relationship with Shepard. Ship's psychologist my bum.

Rupert Gardner: the cook and handyman. I want him back. Give him a maintenance schedule so you see him in different sections of the ship working. And more recipes.

Dr. Chakwas: SHE should also be the ship's psychologist. More than a one time drinking buddy. And she should have a mission other than more Serrice Ice Brandy. She doesn't go on the mission, but I'd have liked to have had more interaction. So how about a personality?

Joker plays the part of the comic relief. Fine. He's the ships pilot. EDI is fine the way it is.

Okay, so we had to have Mr. Scott in engineering.

Furthermore, he could have left Joker. Yanked his ass out and broken his bones as he drag his cripple butt into the airlock. He chose to get him, he chose to have a discussion with him. He chose to carefully walk him to the pod and gently sit him. It's Shepard's own damn fault.

Kelly is only unprofessional if shepard makes advances. Unlike Ashley who seesm to think we're "getting along well" for no reason at all and gets jealous of Liara's mere presense. And EDI should be feeding the fish. I stopped buying them. Load screens in ME2 are too long to bother going to and from the quarters every other mission.

Asari Counselor on trial for her assistance in destroying the Citadel because of indoctrination!

"How do you plead?"

Councilor: GUILTY!!

Shepard: No comment!!
