I played ME1 about 3 times and ME2 about 5 time and every time I play as male Shepard mostly because thats what I am. I also like the male sheps romances, voice acting and think they suits me. Also I keep the default look most of the time becausse I think its iconic. What do you guys play as and what are your reasons?

I haven't finished ME2 yet, but I play fem shep mainly because I'm a woman. That, and she gives off an aura of awesome.

femshep has this ssilent innternal struggle in her, u can hear it in her voice if u romanced liara and got lotsb. MaleShep has full reign on his feelings but i suspect he's a blossoming alcoholic.
As full renegades though, those characteristics take a back seat and Both shepards become more active where they make things happen instead of have things happen to them.

i think femshep is the better character, but maleshep takes the spotlight because he's the guy you want to be.
Also MaleShep is more malleable and its easier for the player to project him or herself through him. Then again it could just be because im a guy and both shepards cater better to their own sex.

I play as femshep because... I can, mostly. I tend to play females in games, although occasionally I'll veer off that path (my favourite 'canon', if it can used in this context, playthrough of Fallout 3 was with my male character).

I do prefer Hale's voice acting. Meer is a great VA but it's stale in game.

Waiting to see how far this thread goes down the rabbit hole.

I play a male Shepard 98% of the time. I have never made it through a play through as a female Shepard.
Why? I don't know, because I like it better I guess.

Male Shepard is my canon character but I also have a femshep that I enjoy playing very much.

This is pretty much how I feel. I think that FemShep is a more interesting character. The hulky dude space marine has been done to death (mostly because it's good). It's just not that original or interesting anymore. But both VAs are excellent. I'd just really like to see some FemShep in the ME3 ad campaigns.

When it comes to male sheep, I can only play my one canon infiltrator. Most of that has to do with the fact that he is Shepard in my mind, but part of it has to do with the voice acting. When I hear meer's voice on another Shepard's face (even the default) it feels wrong. Also, I tried to play as a black male sheep and the voice doesn't fit at all.

However, as a femshep, I feel like hale's voice allows more replay value as different femsheps. My original was white and now I'm playing as a femshep of Arab descent and it doesn't creep me out as much as male shep. Don't know why that is.

Long story shrt, I feel like my male shep is cannon, but enjoy playing as a femshep more due to the replay value.

Both?

I love both my Sheps equally. Originally, ManShep was going to be my main, but after a playtrough as FemShep, I just had to keep both of them on the same level. Each is a badass in their own right. Both are also customized. Can't stand Sheploo.

Why choose when you can have both. Image IPB

I have a FShep and a Mshep ... I love playing both of them and it shows how Bioware has really allowed the player to influence the story. Through my MS I got to know Jacob & Jack ... my FS opened my eyes to Samara & Wrex. Playing both has opened up different parts of the game as well as dialogue ... What a frackin' cool game! Male Shepard always! Okay, no, I have one female Shepard... but that's because I really, really wanted to romance Kaidan.

My paragon was FemShep, but renegade was ManShep all the way.

I prefer femShep. Hale, for me anyway, did a better job acting wise for both paragon and renegade Shepard. Meer does an okay job for renegade, but sorta blew it for paragon Shepard. I play more paragon than renegade.

I disagree....I have tried femShep (I am female), just can't take to her...where as manShep is just full of win for me, I like his voice attitude better, how he comes across is more in tune with who I am...femShep jars me, just very much not me, her voice attitude is way off base for me.

My Shep is custom, I am so used to his face now, his voice sounds weird coming from another Shep.

My canon is FemShep, and that's who I usually play.  ManShep has grown on me lately, but I still prefer my FemSheppies.

Both. I base my Sheps off of X-men and Avenger characters lol. My 2 favorite are Tony (Iron Man/Engineer) and Wanda (Scarlet Witch/Sentinel)

Generally prefer renegade Sheploo and paragon custom Femshep. In fact those are the only two ways I play the game now. Hale gets a little too emotional for me as a renegade, it seems like she has a personal stake in everything she does not to mention the change between paragon and renegade dialogue options is much more pronounced than with Meer. Meers paragon tone can grate on me as well, but I think he works great as a "renegon."

I prefer female Shep. I have become used to and like JH's voice and tis ingrained as the canon char (for me) for Mass Effect. It's with much difficulty I managed to get a guy done for ME, early this year but now he's stuck in limbo in ME2. Can't get round to him.

I've tried starting up male PCs in pretty much every BW game I have and usually abandon them by the first mission. I'm not sure why, I just can't get into it. Playing FemShep is empowering to me, it's not just the looks or the voice, and it just doesn't feel the same when I play a male character.

Femshep kicks ass. I'm sorry, but the fate of the galaxy always seems to be in the hands of a dude. Manshep is still hot, and a more fleshed-out character than other spacejock- saving- the-universe characters, but there's something to be said for a sexy, smart, strong-willed woman saving us all.

I tend to only play games when I can play as a female ... so FemShep it is!
