Male Shep for several reasons:

1). I like his voice.
2). I prefer playing as a renegade and I think the male VA does those lines better.
3). The Jennifer Hale cult creeps me out and actively turns me off of wanting to play a Shepard of my own gender.
4). I want to counteract the male bashing that permeates this entire fandom (not just this partticular forum; I mean the entire fandom).
5). I really think poor Jack needs someone to love her more than all of the other LIs.

When it comes to male sheep, I can only play my one canon infiltrator. Most of that has to do with the fact that he is Shepard in my mind, but part of it has to do with the voice acting. When I hear meer's voice on another Shepard's face (even the default) it feels wrong. Also, I tried to play as a black male sheep and the voice doesn't fit at all.

What is his name, Ram Shepard?

I play as manshep because I can't for the life of me fathom what women think. I can't write as a woman and neither could I play as one. Image IPB Just can't thread my own intentions for his character through the female interpretation as effectively as that of the male.

Half of my Shepards are men, and the other half are women. I only switch genders for the romances.

Male Shepard. Like TS2Aggie the whole Meer/Male Shep bashing irks me.

Otherwise I vastly prefer Meer's voice over Hale's and I prefer his interaction over Hale's. (really though her voice makes me wanna rip my ears off).[Just personal preference]

Other than that...dude Shep just feels more fun and real and interesting.

OK I only played male shep, but will I get a very deferent experience if I play femshep? Because if so I plan to do a new play though.
Btw if you can upload photos of your shepards I like to see them :)

I play both genders but have more MSheps. I'm also one of the few that prefer Meer over Hale.

I always play Female Shep; in fact, I haven't been able to complete a playthrough with a male Shepard because my first - and thus "real" Shep - was a woman.

I'm sorry, but the fate of the galaxy always seems to be in the hands of a dude.

This is a big reason why I tend to play female characters in games. While I do simply enjoy playing women, the fact that the vast majority of heroes in games and film tend to be men really has something to do with *why* I enjoy doing something different.

Not to mention, I do not like Sheploo's voice acting - Hale's is much better all around and when I try to play Manshep it always bothers me how lifeless he sounds.

MaleShep because FemShep shares the same body movement as MaleShep

I'm a guy.

I mostly play female Shepard, well actually, in any game that gives you the option.
I do have played male Shepards too though, enjoyed the one where i romanced Tali quite alot.

I don't play as either gender because i see myself in them, of course their chracteristics are modeled after my own, but i like to roleplay the game, that means Shepard is another person.

I prefer the female's voice acting though, she feels more true and solid while i tend to think the male voice actor is more *bleh* not exactly bad, but not very convincing too.

I always customize my characters looks.

Love both, but on account of being a male!Shep fangirl most of my playthroughs are done with male Shepard.

I play both, I like to mix things up.
Though I do play MaleShep more, about a 70 to 30% difference, probably because it's easier to relate to.

I play both genders, but I prefer my male Shepard since I started out with him.

Same.

And it's easier to pretend to be me there since I'm male.

I prefer FemShep, although I have played through the games with a ManShep on occasion.

I play MaleShep because I have serious difficulties with creating relatable female protagonists. I also happen to be one of the chosen few who actually likes Mark Meer's understated performance. It's certainly helped me to create new characters that differ from my standard RPG protagonist (snarky, roguish antihero).

If a game gives me the option to play as a female I take it. I played ME1 and 2 twice as FemShep before attempting a ManShep, by that time I was used to Hale's voice so Meer's just seemed wrong.

Man what are you talking about? Mark's performance is awesome! Hale sounds the same almost all the time, it's like she's always bored with whatever's going on and she's especially bad at voicing renegade lines.

Compare him and her. She's an awfully emotionless renegade :pinched:
