It's been revealed that melee combat is going to be improved in ME3. There are going to be new animations for repeated melee hits. And if you hold the melee button you can unleash a class-specific special melee attack that kills enemies in one hit.

Now, I'm all for improving melee attacks. Anything that will make the Vanguard potentially more badass is OK with me. But does anyone know how that is going to work? Is it only if their shields or armor are completely gone? I don't think Bioware is foolish enough to throw a one-hit melee system without thinking much into it. But does anyone who tried it at E3 know or does anyone know of a link that alludes to it? I am curious to se how it is handled.

It's not a one hit kill, rather it does a ton of damage. At least, that's what I think. However, if you sneak up on someone and stab them in the back then yeah that's a one hit kill.

If you look at the demos, every time a powered up melee attack is used, the enemy is caught off guard, frozen, stunned, etc., so I think that the powered up attack can be disrupted (to not make it so op) and will only be effective in finishing situations and stealth combat.

As far I remember, there's no OHK melee move on E3 demo.

I would imagine you still have to take down shields and armor first. The only vids I have seen didn't have the UI enabled, so it's hard to say.

It's not a OHK. You can't OHK a completely undamaged unstunned enemy, but you can do a ton of damage with it.

melee is more powerfull then heavy throw.

im sure melee will be OP, while ranged combat will blow.

Hm, well I read an article that said that there are definitely OHK melee strikes. Maybe it's a OHK if they're at half-health or something; if they are higher than that then it's just a powerful hit.

would a kinetic barrier stop a knife? just saying. and I think the armor would be negated too if you aimed for an exposed area or for the joints between the armor plates.

Well, in Gears of War they got a one hit kill ability on the Lancer with its chainsaw, but it's got a charge up time and moving around is slow. In the third game, they added the Retro Lancer and you can charge with the bayonet on the end for a one hit kill, but you have to charge for a certain distance before it becomes lethal.

So, there's ways they could do one hit kill melee attacks that you have to put yourself in some sort of danger trying to attempt it.

Hey, if it is. I will make it a priority to be the first person to beat ME3 without firing a single shot.

impossible.

one punch = death isnt OP?

melee in ME2 does more damage then one bullet, does more CC then heavy throw, and can be spammed like crazy. melee is ALREADY OP.

Bioware would not do that to us.

are we still using the mako, overheating weapons, and individual cooldowns?

i have no doubts about bioware doing that to us.

It's somewhat... ironic I suppose that the Kinetic barriers, which has greatly reduced the effectiveness of conventional ranged weapons, accidentally enabled melee combat to suddenly become viable again. Yay for the future!

Haha Dune meets Mass Effect - there's actually some correlations. Sand worms and thresher maws anyone?

Try that omni-blade on an enemy while the game is set on Insanity and tell me it's OP.

yeah, Shepard stabs a Cerberus Soldier in the gut for a one-hit kill, but there are 3 more enemies emptying their clips at him.

They want to improve combat, bump up the power of biotic attacks and allow combos with melee and ranged attacks. How cool would it be to enter a room, throw a bunch of enemies into a wall, melee the closest enemy and the use ranged weapons to finish the rest as they are getting to their feet.

Adrenaline rush+Storm speed=ability to enjoy popping the last heat sink before charging in for "cuddling".
