I have searched and read all DLC threads. I have opened a request with EA support which got escalated to Senior Support who could not solve the problem, had not seen this problem, and asked me to post it here for the Devs to take a look at. My Problem is I am not receiving the DLC Rewards - such as the Battledress of the Provocateur - on my Origins Characters. This specifically applies to the "Other Campaigns" rewards, the rewards from in game DLC's like Wardens Keep are fine since they are added to your inventory as you find them.

Let me get some basics out of the way. I need to apologize in advance for this long list of everything that does work properly but I had to go over all this with support last night so I figure I better list everything in excruciating detail first to save a lot of questions later. I also want to make sure I document everything I have already checked and tested either on my own or with the help of EA support.

This is not a performance issue, the game runs fine and I've hardly ever had a crash since the more recent patches and especially since upgrading my OS and memory. My system specs are well above minimum.
CPU = Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU     E6550  @ 2.33GHz
Memory = 6 GB Ram
Video = NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS 256 MB
OS = Microsoft Windows 7 Professional  Service Pack 1 (6.1.7601)
DirectX 11 (Aug2009) or later
Sound = Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTKVHD64.sys [6.0.1.6194]
***Yes this is a 64 bit OS however this is not a performance or system issue, game runs fine**

My CD keys Do show up properly in the Dragon Age Configuration Utility.

I have full access to my DLC Content and No Authorization issues. My Account Does automatically log in when I launch the game, most of the time, sometimes I do have to log in. I can play any DLC, both the in-game such as Warden's Keep, and the "Other Campaigns" such as Leliana's Song. They all show as enabled and run fine. I have All available DLC's for Origins and Awakening. I have played through Origins, Awakening, and All DLC's with at least one character. I have achieved almost every reward available in DLC's - you can check my profile - so I should have almost every reward available in Origins.

Back on 04/08/2011 I had a problem enabling my DLC's and playing the game and EA support was very helpful, sent me a link to an article on how to edit the ...Bioware\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\AddIns file and change every entry of RequiresAuthorization="1" to 0, I have not had any problems accessing DLC content or gotten a message that I can't load a game because of missing DLC content since that fix.

I have never tried to enter the game on the few occasions that I did have problems enabling DLC content, I either made sure I was logged in and resolved it myself, or on that one occasion, as mentioned, EA support had me edit that AddIns file and I have not had a problem since. Consequently I have never lost or had go missing any DLC items in game with one exception which I'll get to shortly. I do have some "Other Campaign" DLC rewards on some characters, particularly the Battledress of the Provocateur and the Blightblood.

All in-game DLC content that came with the Collector's Edition works fine and creates properly on all new characters (Dragon Blood Armor, Bergen's Honor, Final Reason & the Grimoire of Frozen Wastes). The Lucky Stone - which comes from using the character creator one time - creates properly on all new characters. Feastday Gifts & Pranks create properly on all new characters.

I have about 9 characters, most saved around the same point in the game, around level 12. At which point I got Leliana's Song, The Darkspawn Chronicles, Return to Ostagar and Feastday Gifts & Pranks. I played through Leliana's Song and The Darkspawn Chronicles. I went back into Origins on my first character and had received the Battledress of the Provocateur and the Blightblood. I played through Return to Ostagar, saved and opened another saved character and did the same thing on like 3 more characters. At this point I have the Battledress of the Provocateur and the Blightblood on 4 characters.

At that point I had 8 characters, 4 saved after completing Return to Ostagar which also had the Battledress of the Provocateur and the Blightblood in their inventory or on a character. The other 4 were saved before I had completed Leliana's Song and The Darkspawn Chronicals, however, like the first 4 characters, next time I opened any of them I should have received the Battledress of the Provocateur and the Blightblood.

Then I got Awakening, Witch Hunt and The Golems of Amgarrak. So I go back to Character 1 and played through to the end of Origin, the end of Awakening, then Witch Hunt then Golems of Amgarrak. Everything ran fine, I picked up all the rewards along the way, might have missed one in Amgarrak but I had most of them.

Character 1 was done with everything, so I load Character 2. It has everything in it's inventory I expected, the Battledress of the Provocateur and the Blightblood from before as well as the stuff from Witch Hunt and The Golems of Amgarrak. I played for about an hour, less really and realized I had made some mistakes in the story line for that character and suddenly my romantic interest and the whole camp was pissed at me for being a cad, oops wrong character. So I reload the saved game I had just opened - which was originally saved before completing the game and DLC's with Character 1. Everything was working properly until I re-loaded that saved game I had just opened.

***This is where things start to go horribly wrong. ***

When I loaded that same saved game I had just loaded an hour earlier but was really a month or so old before I had completed Witch Hunt or The Golems of Amgarrak, this time it did not load the rewards from Witch Hunt or The Golems of Amgarrak, but it did still have the Battledress of the Provocateur and the Blightblood from before. So I figured I had screwed up that character's saved game by re-loading that game, and whatever was supposed to trigger creating the rewards wouldn't run again on that character again.

Now I can live with losing those items on one LvL 12 character but this gets worse. I log in with other characters, none of them are getting the rewards from the Witch Hunt or The Golems of Amgarrak. Worse yet, the 4 characters that had not yet logged on and received the Battledress of the Provocateur and the Blightblood before their last save do not have them now, never got them.

I have since created a new character, when it created it had all the collector's edition items, the lucky stone and the Feastday Gifts and Pranks were on Bodin. No the Battledress of the Provocateur and the Blightblood, no Witch Hunt or Amgarrak items either. I played it up to LvL 12 like I had before and then ran through Leliana's Song for the 3rd time, and completed the Battledress quest again. Logged into my new character and no Battledress. Check the 4 older character and none there either. I still have it on the 4 characters which had a saved game with those items prior to reverting that one old saved game. I also created a new character again and no rewards from Other Campaigns.

So not only are the items which I've already earned by completing the quests not showing up, but even by completing them over again I still cannot generate the items on an Origins character, old or new..

Apparently there is a trigger which is only allowed to run once when you reach an achievement, so doing them again does not help. Apparently the file that gets updated to enable those items in game was reverted when I loaded an older saved game.

Now here is one more bit of interesting information, when I was looking at my Achievements while writing this, the ones in game in my Player Profile, I found that normal behavior if you click on an Achievement in the left pane, and if it has been completed it shows a full description in right pane with the icon in full color. If it has Not been completed it is greyed out on both sides and you will either see a shadow of the icon on both sides or a question mark with Secret as the description. All of the Achievements for the 4 "Other Campaigns", Lelian's Song, The Darkspawn Chronicals, Witch Hunt and The Golems of Amgarrak are in full color on the left side as if they have been accomplished, (which they have) but if I click on them, the right pane is greyed out as if they have not been accomplished.

I have also tried re-running patches 1.03 and 1.04, did not help.

Please Help, I've put a lot of work into collecting those rewards so I can play these extra 7-8 characters through with the items that I now seem to have no way to collect even if I run through the quests again.

Thanks,
Michael

Sadly, your problem came from the advice given by EA technical support. The authorization state of your DLC is referenced in multiple different files in the Settings folder and altering the addins.xml only resolves one of those issues. You will need to revert your addins.xml so that the DLC requires authorization and authorize everything properly for your DLC to work properly. Effectively, your game thinks that you are authorized to have the downloads, but not the rewards and not to play portions of them and will continue to be confused until things are properly authorized. If you are still having problems with de-authorization after you reset the adds.xml file, you may be able to fix it if you have an old copy of the entire Settings folder from before things became unauthorized, or if by some chance you have not overwritten those files and ghost copies still exist on the system of the pre-deauthorization version (right click on each file, go to properties and select previous version to restore. The date of the versions available is listed next to them), you can restore your authorization to the DLC, though it won't give you the items from completing the DLCs as it won't know you completed them.

I could be wrong but I really don't think that is the problem. One - it is listed as a fix in several places throughout these forums. Two - it worked, that was back on April 8th and me running through to the end of Origins, Awakening, Witch Hunt and The Golems of Amgarrak was after that fix. All items showed up just fine on the first character I loaded after completing Origins, Awakening, Witch Hunt and The Golems of Amgarrak had all the items in her inventory until I reverted to an older saved game. This all occurred about 2-3 weeks ago so I can't see how a fix from 4/8/11 would have suddenly caused the problem 6 weeks later.

I realize it is listed as a fix in several places. THe problems you are describing are also listed as occuring with this "fix". It's worth a try. You can always change it back.

true enough. I'll see what I can find as previous version files tonight when I get home. Is this going to revert all my saved games to previous to 4/8? I'd hate to lose 2 1/2 months of gameplay...

Your saved games should be fine. It is the settings files that store the authorization state.

ah ok thanks. I'll try it later. I definitely have settings files from my old PC from before I upgraded, However that was on XP. Will they work on my Windows 7 install?

I will look for previous versions first but that might be an alternative for me. (My upgrade was on the same hardware with a new hard drive, so my old XP C: drive is still intact, just not bootable anymore.)

And thanks for your help Sami Jo.

Happy to help. I hope it works. Make sure that if you had any mods added as dazips on the old install that you have the same ones on the new install as those will be in the addins.xml as well and if there are suddenly new or missing ones it will wreak havoc with the game.

Yeah that might be an issue since I've installed a couple of DLC's since 4/8. I kind of figured I'd just have to edit the existing AddIns file and change all the 0's back to 1's. But since they may be refferenced in other files I probably should just be prepared to reinstall those DLC's. I have the Awakening CD and can download Witch hunt and Gollems of Amgarrak again. The other stuff I've had for a long time.

Ok my problem is fixed. Thank You Sami for pointing me in the right direction. I have a feeling this fix will not help many people because it may introduce other problems, in fact I'm sure it will, but at this point in the game those problems probably won't effect me for awhile if at all so I'm going to be lazy and wait out the 1.05 patch since I'm good to go for now.

I have installed more DLC's since this problem arose so I couldn't just revert to older files without causing other problems or doing re-installs so before going that route I decided to simply undo the last fix from EA support... :) I edited the AddIns.xml file and changed all entries of RequiresAuthorization="0" back to 1. Opened the game and now I can't Log in. (I said I'm sure this is going to cause other problems.) So I unchecked always log in and opened the game anyway. All my DLC's are enabled, so I launch my character. All the missing DLC items ARE in her backpack! I have checked other characters, both the new character and an older character that never had any of the rewards show up on her and everything that should be there is. Oh and I logged in in Warden's Keep near my storage chest and checked the map to make sure I have access to areas I should and I do. I've also checked to see if I have access to play my "Other Campaign" DLC's and I do. My Achievement Icons in my in-game player profile are also no longer greyed out. Since I already have all the DLC's I don't think this logon issue will be a problem for me, I know it will be for others so I wouldn't consider this a fix for most people. But like I said, I'm being lazy. I don't get much time to play as it is, and I work on computers for a living so unless I have more problems with this I'm just going to be on my merry way.

Thanks again sami jo, you were very helpful,
Ghost

One more update on this fyi.

I loaded every character's last saved game and they all updated All the DLC items. Naturally I've also saved every one. I have created a new character and it came with all the missing DLC items in his inventory. Last character I tested was the one which I had reverted which caused this problem to begin with, it got the items back! No duplicate items on any character so what ever was wrong is now reset properly.

I still can't log in but all that means is my online profile won't update. Since I have saved all characters with the items in their inventory I could switch the AddIn file back to 0's but then if I ever play the "Other Campaign" DLC's again I won't be able to trigger the one or 2 items I missed the first time through. Also if I have the need to revert to an older saved game I'll lose those items. So for now I'll play logged out and wait for 1.05.

Hope all these details help troubleshooting whatever the problems are and give others options or workarounds for now. I know that just knowing the effects of changing that file back and forth is definitely useful to me.

I'm so glad it worked! Between the old BW servers being hacked, the resulting password resets and the existing connection issues, I suspect that playing offline is a good idea for the near future.

This is now completely resolved. EA account security reset my password and I can now play logged in and I do still have access to all DLC content and items. Profile achievement icons are properly active as well.

If you need assistance resetting your password see this post: http://social.biowar...8/index/7731245

Thanks Again Sami Jo.
