Is there an in-game way to change specializations? That is, short of editing the character's saved game, can I switch my specialization in-game, even if I have to pay a penalty? I took shape shifter as a mage and I don't find it all that useful.

Thanks!

Just a follow up. Since you don't have to use any of your talent points in your chosen specialization tree, can I just buy a tome that grants me an extra talent point to make up for the one I spent on the spider form in the shape-shifter tree? Then, I can forget about allocating points to the shape-shifter tree and instead use them in the primal trees?

Whether you choose to spend any points at all in the specializations you take is entirely up to you. There is no direct consequence on the game if you don't (not even if you don't pick specializations).

Your only "problem" here is that you have spend 1 point in spider form and didn't really want to.

While 1 point doesn't really matter that much in the long run, there is only one way of changing it, and that is to install one of the respec mods developed by gamers, and then respec your entire character. These mods lets you reallocate all attribute points, all skill points, all talent points, and the two specializations.

The tome you're refering to is something you can buy no matter what, so that is essentially an extra point.

Yes you can get tomes that will give you a point for spells and talents. I've used one or two of them in-game myself to augment a skill I needed. Various vendors sell them, although I don't know offhand who does. I remember the vendor at the camp had one or two tomes as well as the two spec books.

If you are talking about a tome that adds another specialization point I don't think that exists. You only get two of those to pick from.

So, no way to re-spec a specialization after choosing, but I can make up the lost talent point with a tome. Thank you for the clarification. I think I will go this route.
