The destruction of New York or Washington DC is so cliche. Even London would be an improvement. If they feel it necessary that it be a city with familiar landscape/landmarks, why not Paris, Rome, Cairo, or Rio de Janeiro?

It would be hilarious if they the earth scenes in Edmonton.

Crysis 2
Modern Warfare 3

How many times do we have to see New York on fire? There are plenty of other cities not yet used for battlefields in the US.

Considering same sex marriage is now legal there, you'd think more of these S/S LI fanbois would be hyped for NY

. Personally i would like to see somewhere like Singapore or Dubai get reaperfied :)

This or Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro (Two great example to see what the cotex said about the gap that grows between the rich and poor.)

What about Chicago? That is a US city I've never seen in a videogame.

Considering the theme of freedom/survival in ME3 I think Phillapdelphia would be best considering it's historical relevance to the US.

After the Big Ben sniper trailer I was really hoping for it to be set in London. I live there...err...here, so I'd know my way around the maps, and if it all got to much I could go hidein my favorite pub :D

But anyways, it's nice to see a different city and country feturing in a game. Can't blame a Canadian developer for putting Canada in their game :)

My opinion is because they don't want to see same **** they see in 90% of video games today. You did not buy MassEffect for Earth you got it so you can see new aliens and worlds. It's just going to be some generic concrete ridden hallway with chest high walls. My guess is they are going for the " OH GOD LOOK THEY ARE BLOWING AWAY EMPIRE STATES BUILDING" or some stupid ass **** like that that only Americans care about (at least the ones living in NY)

Pretty much this.

We've seen Earth destroyed countless times in fiction. I understand that Bioware wants to show us Earth in the ME universe but I'm much more interested in getting a look at the other species' homeworlds and visiting some other exotic worlds.

Yeah...Monsters/Aliens destroy New York. Seriously...Prototype 1+2, Crysis 2 and many other games already play in New York.
No offense to the city, but I think it has enough appearances in games and movies, it's refreshing to see it being not the scene of a game.

I was surprised to see Hamburg in germany being destroyed in a game(at least in the trailer).
The Reapers destroyed my home!
They'll pay!

It is already kind of being used since apparently Vancouver and Seattle have merged into one big city.   Is it just me or does sci-fi like the west coast?  They always make west coast cities the most important cities on earth.

Please no New York, there are already way too many books, movies and games that use it as a cliche destruction place.

cliche is a word that is used way too much in these forums.  In fact using the word cliche is becoming cliche, ha!

Well, I'm sick of seeing London destroyed. What about Bedfordshire, England? Or Dover, Kent, England? Why can't we fight there?

Or St. Petersburg, Russia?

The thing is the architecture modification done in Mass effect, and some of the cameos of say like lady liberty's head makes me want to see what new york is in the Mass Effect universe. More so than Seattle/Vancouver. Though if you want less overuse US cities, there you go.

Plus you can see Jersey from New York, and I totally want to see that place get reaped'

Because when a building in NY isn't featured in the setting, terrorist retcon it with planes. Just look at Deus Ex.

I wouldn't mind seeing NYC. Sure it's overused, but usually it's a battle or alien invasion or something that happens just in NY. Mass Effect would be different because even if we're seeing NY, we know the Reapers are destroying other cities all over the world.
