NY has been done to death, and all other American cities look exactly the same. Except Washington DC.

It'd be cool if they did somewhere new. Like District 9. I liked that film being set in a city I'd never seen before.

We've all seen Earth footage at E3; did anyone recognise that location? I didn't.

Um, what location? Johannesburg?

No, the location of the E3 footage with Anderson.

thats a seattle/vancouver megatropolis

Hmm. I've been to Seattle... it didn't look like that! I'm not saying you're wrong, only that they've changed it a lot.

I suppose as long as they make it look suitably different and futuristic then it won't matter too much to me what location they use... as long as it's not NY!

May've been the Vancouver part, for all we know. B)

LOL

I've been there too actually, and it doesn't look anything like the E3 footage either. ;)

Seattle + Vancouver + Canada-US unification + BioWare spin on it + 170 years = badass city. :police:

This is all quite funny seeming as Bioware have chosen somewhere different to have the 'earth is destroyed' gameplay. And on a separate note I was in London the other day and as I looked up at Big Ben I realised something about the reapers in the teaser trailer.....reapers are mother****ing gigantic

It says the real size somewhere in the Codex. I think it's 2 kilometers.

Oh god no. Seriously enough with NY.

Half-Life is a game that I respect - it proved that you can have amazing urban fights in eastern Europe (City 17 is based on Sofia). Enough with the uber cliched megatropolises.

And yeah I'm totally biased since it's my city of course

Well, on Earth that is centuries ahead of us in technology (if you count mass effect technology), then most recognizablr cities will be megatropolises.

I don't really care to be honest so long as it's not some place overdone. Africa was a nice diversion in Halo, Eastern Europe was also nice in Half-Life. If I didn't know it's London already I would like to see some city in South America or maybe Shanhai or some place in Asia.

I'd like to see Rio de Janeiro.

I'd really like to see Moscow, but I sense we'll only be seeing British, French, German, Japanese/Chinese, and North American cities.

As has been said many times, it's been done to death.  Also, most of us outside the States don't really have any emotional connection to the place.  It's simply refreshing when the rest of the world is ackowledged, basically.

Personally, I was hoping for Singapore and New Calcutta to be featured in the game.  From the timeline, I got the impression Singapore was one of the most important cities on the planet because of the concentration of biotics there (I think there was some kind of accident at "Singapore International Spaceport").  And apparently New Calcutta is one of the wealthiest regions on Earth.

In any case I hope we see Arcturus Station, since that's the capital of the Systems Alliance.

Exactly this.

Crysis 2. After seeing that that game would go from having a frozen forest to being another game set in NY, I got sick of the location. Hell yeah for Canada though.

This going from a tropicl/frozen paradise/hell hole they go to New York. I was already not a fan of New York as a setting for any alien invasion game but this just pushed me over the edge. It has been so overdone it's time to move on, there are plenty of other big cities out there than need to be destoryed, don't give NY all the fun.

I was just looking at the Gameinformer issue featuring Mass Effect 3 and Casey Hudon is quoted saying

"The opening starts by showing things from around the world—New York, London, Japan. You're seeing what's happening in all these other cities first, seeing these reports from major cities," ... "Then you look out your window, and it arrives. "

Well for the most part we take NY being destroyed pretty well in the US we take the WH being destroyed well too but considering 9/11 happened I would prefer NY get skipped for once. I won't riot but it'll just make me depressed again. I'm sure they'll destroy Tokyo and maybe San Francisco I mean in the end the world is taken over by the reapers seeing 100% takeover is not necessary the sacking of London is enough to imply the world is universally screwed.

Well I think we've kind of figured out that overdoing New York in ME 3 would just be cheesy and lame...

It'd still be nice to see it briefly though.

I'd also think it would be cool to see the city of Sydney in Australia. The city is pretty big and people have predicted that it will become bigger in the future since Australia doesn't have tons and tons of cities, also the buildings and skycrapers there are beautiful so I'd imagine in the future they would keep up the sleek shiny design they have going on.

Because we've seen NYC destroyed in movies and games so often it's a cliche in and of itself.

I see what you did there...

Anyway, I definately want to see other places other than North America under attack by the Reapers. If Hollywood is to be believed, aliens have a very scary attraction to that continent.

Dubai could be an interesting target. One of the richest cities in the world and they got the tallest building in the world at the moment. Who knows what it will be in ME's universe...

OT: because it's done to death and the world is bigger than New York. And Bioware is not obligated to use NYC, especially since they're not US themselves.
