The main problem I see is that RPG comes with the promise of a certain amount of definition a player can give to the character. That makes the portrayal of such a personally challenging experience for the character... difficult.AwesomeName wrote...

Hard to portray that in an RPG video game though...AwesomeName wrote...

Shepard fighting an indoctrinated version of himself within his own head? Brilliant!AwesomeName wrote...
Indoctrination.
Aha, not exactly; I literally meant indoctrination (something like this). I think the last boss should happen before the endgame, where the real fight begins (but not against anything personified). I think fighting against something like, say, physical and mental exhaustion is far more interesting than fighting a actual enemy. I know Bosses are going to have their place in the game, and I'm certainly looking forward to them, but I think a final boss should happen before the final, final leg of the conflict, especially since games like this are getting better and better and telling stories. I'm not sure if that really makes any sense... An example scenario would be something like, say, Frodo starting at the bottom of Mount Doom; he fights a "boss"; then the real fight begins when he has to struggle up the mountain. That didn't happen in LOTR, exactly, but I'm deliberately twisting what happened to try to give an idea of what I'd like.
Yeah it is. I think they could though. They seem to be intertwining the drama/cinematics into the actual gameplay, so I don't see why not.

That or T.I.M. will throw Ash Trays at you like some sort of Grenades. His weak point is his glowing cigarette.

i really hope that the final mission should be an epic space battle with shepard and his allies facing what is left of the reaper fleet
ill call shepard and co allies and call the reapers just reapers
the battle commences and the allies are taking huge casulties.
cutscene with a decision rachni fleets fly in taking reapers by surprise
battle continues reapers start to lose but after the initial surprise attack reapers start taking advantage over battle once again
cutscene possibly krogan reniforcemnets led by urdnot wrex with vast numbers of krogan if geneophage gets cured
reapers cant handle the losses and slowly get overwhelmed and begin to fall back
cutscene reaper reinforcments come led by harbinger shepard does one of those things such as that wasn't the main reaper army it was just a scout team - yes i no it was a bit crap
battle commences allies begin to lose and decide to issue a full retreat
allies leave
reapers take out each star system one by one
I really dont know how allies will kill reapers but it would be pretty cool if mega prothean fleet come and just kick the reapers butt.
Mass effect 4 set up them Protheans want to remake thier empire and start killing allies

About the Prothean fleet... if my theory turns out to be true, I officially love Bioware.

Why does there have to be a final "boss", can't they break the mold?
They better if they want video games to become a serious medium for good story-telling. I'm skeptical ME3 will reach that pedestal, but from what they've shown us, it looks like they're at a lot closer to that (what with the music, digital acting and integrated cinematics).

However to achieve this we'll need to think about the story of the series so far.
The "Reapers" are the major threat so far and in my general opinion they aren't the number one threat to the existance of the Milky Way. They are nothing but machines performing a task given to them; more like the Geth except much more advanced. With this said; we need to end their little routine by venturing beyond the edges of our galaxy and finding whatever higher power programmed them and or created them. So my guess is that Mass Effect 3 will end with the species coming together to fight off the Reapers while Shepard uses the I.F.F. to go beyond the Milky Way - in order to find "The Creator". The series of events beyond this will be based on your over all performance so far, your ability to lead, and your ship. My bet is that you'll have to end up fighting some new species that has a vastly surperiour intelligence to even the Prothean. However I'm also going to bet that this is the "last" of their kind; trying to basically "live forever" by using the Reapers as their "shoppers" so to speak.
Either way - I'm going to say that the finale features a war between "The Creator(s) of the Reapers" and the Milky Way / Shepard. This would leave room for the next series of Mass Effect games - as it would be time to venture beyond the Milky Way and possibly into many more galaxies using Reaper technology instead of Prothean.
This is a high likely-hood in my opinion.

Lets be logical for a second and think about the true nature of this beast known as Mass Effect as a whole. Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 all are Shepards story; and when they end its not the end of the franchise but a new possible beginning. So to end on a high note I'm going to go out on a limb and say that 3 will end with a "Halo 3"-ish like ending cutscene that shows what may lie beyond our galaxy...

I think we will get something like the "Mass Effect Fade", Shepard fighting in his own subconscience against Harbinger/Reaper's indoctrination. Shepard prevails pushes a button, and then the Reapers are crippled by something.

Its not really cliche because most people don't want to really go that route. Halo didn't feature Cheif vs the Forerunners (sp?). Stargate didn't feature the creators of the gates (least not that I seen). Zelda - Link didn't fight the creator of the Triforce.
I'm sure it sound's dumb but at the same time its the only route that makes a lot of sense. Shepard sacrificing him/herself for the greater good and advancement of Humanity and the rest of the galaxy. Killing / disabling the creator of the Reapers could have dire concequences; such as the death of the entire species that the creator is. Or maybe the creator can make a deal or something with Shepard - leading to further problems or goals...Never know.
