I played through NWN2 a few times when it was released and thought I'd revisit it. Oddly, I had no issues with camera settings back then that I can recall, but for the life of me, I can't handle the camera this time around. What I'd like is what I think is called a driving camera, namely a camera view that change with the direction the character is facing (à la DAO, DA2, Mass Effect). Is there any way to set that? Thanks!

Ironically, one of the more recent updates seems to have made the camera hyper-sensitive.

The mode you are looking for is I think called "Character Mode" and can be activated by pressing the little button which looks like a guys head of the three buttons to the right of your hotbar. I never liked this mode myself but it apparently works a lot better if you use the WASD keys, and I prefer the mouse. Either way, I think that's the one you want.

If you are still having issues, try playing with the settings in the options pane or in the nwn2player.ini file (there is a thread around here all about the camera, but you can just search for "camera" on the wiki, nwn2.wikia.com).

Thanks. I did play around with Character Mode, but it just sets the camera behind my character and stays fixed in a certain direction irrespective of the direction my character is facing. I don't think there is a way to lock it to character movement direction, not that I found anyway. Oh well.

just use the w key to move foward and press and hold the left mouse button in character mode to control your pc. beware, nwn2 was not build to be played this way :D

w/respect ..

There should be but how to do it depends on what expansions you have installed. The devs were mucking around with the camera on each one, and never seem to have gotten the default quite right.

myself I've got MotB+SoZ, and have this option on the Options->CharacterMode->View Options

Camera Follows When Turning in Place

when i turn the camera turns (when i pause it locks), when i run the camera follows; screen edge lets me look around, then the camera reverts behind the character. In the (MyDocs->NwN2) nwn2player.ini

[Character Mode Options]
CameraFollowAlways=1

you could try inserting that (edit, somewhere) if there's no option for Camera Follow

Thanks, kevL! I have MotB but not SoZ, which is probably why I could not find that option. I will try messing about with the ini. Help appreciated - bizarre how I can't find a way to play it as is. I just replayed Kotor and had no issues there.

the Funny thing is, we were having a discussion about cameras (well, it was about cameras t' me ..) and I happened to reinstall the game + exp's, so i looked through the Camera Options after each one went in - and the basic conclusion was that there is really only one camera mode in NwN2, but numerous options and categories were tacked on to try & simplify what becomes very complicated (sic). Example, Exploration mode can be turned into Strategy mode; and Character mode can be turned into Exploration mode ( in fact that's what I think is happening on your system, ie without camera follow, Character is behaving as Exploration )

how does this relate to MotB? well, since i figure that the camera is controlled by the core game engine it may well be capable of everything SoZ is capable of .. both of them updated to v1.23! ( The only difference should be the Option screen, by this line of thought ). If you hunt down through the link above you'll get to another link where i put all the relevant settings from my .Ini - perhaps you can parse or adapt those three [header section]s (from SoZ) to i believe two for MotB. oh bother,

gotta take the cat for a walk .....
