I got this email message from EA regarding my old account:

The name of your EA account has changed. Going forward, your EA account
will be called an Origin™ account. Your login and password are the same,
and all EA account information is in your Origin account.

Origin
is EA's new gaming platform where you can find, purchase and download
all the best content from EA. It's your digital playground for EA games
and exclusive content.

The Origin application is available for download at www.origin.com.
This desktop application will allow you to connect with friends, and
see what they are playing. You can also manage your games library and
digitally download and play games from EA.

So, whether or not that means they are a step closer is debatable, but at least there was _some_ notification.

Of course, no mention at all of NWN can be found anywhere on EA systems other than these current forums.

That's EA's new authentication site which has your computer "phone home" when you are playing your game. It wouldn't work on NWN as it is an older game. It's only for EA's newer games like Sims 3 and so forth.

Really? You think you can shush me? Do I really strike you as the kind of personality that can be shushed?

Fat friggen' chance.

Is your real name Adam, by some strange coincidence? lol.

The reality here is that the master servers have been discontinued for a game that's over 10 years old. You got more than most games ever get, yet now it's ten years later and there are people like this that post this "we're paying customers" blah blah blah.

The reality is you got MUCh more than you paid for, and now your all hurt because you can't get any answers when you know exactly what the answers are.

"This game is no longer supported".

Well... I bought 2 copies of NWN Deluxe (1 for me and 1 for a friend) just 1 day before that the master server gone down, I've got nothing for what I've paid for :P

No, the discontent is not about that, it is about the principle that they never said from the get go that the website
nor the master server were going down for good. If they'd have said that from the start, it would have been a different
story.

Now do you get it? or is that also to hard to understand for you?

Actually Leito that's not true. You can still play the game and you still have access to the multiplayer functions. Security is a much bigger issue now, but everything still works.

No. Name's not Adam. Why? Is that the name of another pisssed off customer?

Nobody is complaining that the master server is down or that the game is no longer supported. That noise is coming from fanboys trying to obfuscate the issue. What's got a significant portion of the community upset is the complete lack of communication and the broader issue of EAs crappy support for ALL it's titles, not so much NWN.

I'd like to have the master server back, but the servers I DM for (Viking Northeast, its backup, Viking Nowhere and my own server, Melkior's Adventure Server) all have a security system similar to the one FunkySwerve posted, so security isn't much of an issue.

I believe the position stated by Lord Sullivan is correct.  Certainly for me, I want an update on exactly what's going on.  We were told something like "a month" for the server to be back up but it's been much longer with no updates.

However, I'm not going to wait and complain about the situation.  I'm just going to keep on playing and check back here every so often to see if we get an update.

I suggest that everyone decides to cope with the current situation and simply keep playing and building regardless of EA's lack of support.

I strongly suspect that the former Bioware folks are just as frustrated at not being allowed to support us (as they have done in the past) as we are at the lack of support.  Let's not give them any more grief for what I believe is not their fault.

When I bought Infinite Dungeons back in the day, I thought "What happens if Bioware goes bankrupt and closes it doors (and servers)?"

Well - Bioware is doing pretty well but has shut down Infinite Dungeons anyway. I guess that data theft incident was just a great opportunity to trash that old bugger.

It seems, unless theres a crack/hack or something, the module called "Infinte Dungeons" is a chapter for the history books which can only be observed on screenshots from now on...

I've learned my lesson. EA and Bioware don't give a **** about their legacy titles. Maybe in some years this new "Origin" system will be legcy itself and history will repeat itself...

I agree

I contradict - I tried just now: Wyvern Crown of Cormyr and Infinite Dungeons work just fine and can be authenticated / decrypted to run just like they always have.

Was there ever any problem with running the premium modules? Though I cannot, like everyone else, connect to the auth server for online gaming, running the premium modules has never stopped working for me.

As I understand it as long as your premium mods are currently installed you should be able to use them. Unfortunately when your computer dies you'll lose them forever. You will not be able to reinstall them if the CD key matches the module intallation.

No, the way I see it: You can easily redownload the install archives of your premium modules. The download links can be found in this thread. As long as the game keys you use ATM are the same you had registered with Bioware shop when you purchased your modules, you will be fine for the time being.

Actually, from what I remember when we were creating Wyvern Crown of Cormyr (In my DLA days), we were told that the CD key as registered mattered, AND that it would be a random time of in-game play before the mod would call home to see if you were verified or not and that it would call the master server. Basically we were told that folks might be able to play for a short period of time before the game would call home to see if you were allowed to play, somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-15 minutes.

Of course, that may NOT be true, and may be just a misremembered discussion that DLA had in our development period. It may also be that Bioware used a different server for that authorization and that particular server may not have been shut down yet.

I DO know that I do NOT have a licensed version of Wyvern Crown, yet I can play it, even though it attempts to connect to master server on start. I think Bioware allows play even when the master server is down... so, currently, ANYONE can play those mods since the master server is not running. For how long it will allow you to continue playing, I think the random time thing may also not be working with the master server being shut down.

I Just downloaded and ran the Wyvern Crown from the links listed in that other thread, and it opens up stating that it has to verify, but it continues on passing right through that screen and allowed me to start playing... it never used to do that, it would always come back and tell me I was not allowed to run that mod in anything other than demo mode. I don't know if it was running in demo mode or not though as I didn't pay much attention to what skills I chose or anything, and didn't bother picking up any weapons on the ground so I was promptly killed by that large pack of wolves that attacks you in the beginning of the mod.

Bannor Bloodfist seems to be right - I just now started PotSC, which I never bought and could play it. It seemed to verify and authenticate my user data, but that cannot be true since I don't own PotSC, and never before could I play anything besides the demo mode. I played for half an hour, so if there is another check for the player to be legitimate, it did not yet hit in that period of time.

One more thing: When I try to play the premium modules without any internet connection, then they refuse to authenticate and work only in demo mode. So there must be happening something while authenticating online that allows the client to decrypt the modules, even with the master server still down.

Hello. I represent the largest social networking site for Neverwinter Nights in Poland. Do you already know when the servers get up? I think it's funny, because the data transmission does not last that long. I do not know on what basis this works but here in Poland are different theories circulate. Some say that BioWare's just no respect for their players, and is geared for quick cash. Others say that this whole scam is done with the accounts, only to immediately jump out of NWN MMO.

I do not know why this delay in placing the servers but not waiting for the hundreds of people in Poland. I spoke also with friends from Hungary and Slovakia. Also in August I can not get wait. In fact, at the present time we solved the problem with authentication using NWNx and assigning an account for no less CDKey servers return would be very helpful.

Yours on behalf of the Polish fans

So far no word Danio. A consensus seems to be forming in the community that EA has decided to stop supporting the game entirely, although for now that's just conjecture, and that they are ignoring calls for an update in typical EA fashion in the hopes that we'll get bored and forget about it after something shiny distracts us.

The good news is that we've found work-arounds for almost all the problems lack of authentication presents. In short... the game works anyway but for multiplayer you'll need to take precautions to keep griefers from stealing people's characters. I think maybe it's for the best, although I'm very sad (that's a lie, I'm still actually pretty pissed off) that EA has chosen to muzzle the folks at Bio.

agreed, i can still play the game with no problems, besides a little wait at log in, the only issue is others having access to my server account... one could take hard earned items from another account ....
as a DM i spend all of my on-line time trying to police this issue
