According to a facebook post the NWNPodcast may have some info about the server in their next podcast....hopefully its soon....The Amethyst Dragon, from the World of Aenea has provided us with a small NWN1 community update concerning the Bioware authentication server and some other updates. This segment will be in ep148. Thanks to The Amethyst Dragon!
Edit: I found the post that this is about actually. It seems to be another workaround and not actual information from Bioware......*sigh*

It is a client side "patch/fix" made by Virusman.
What would be even more interesting (for me) would be a fix that only adresses the long auth server timeout time...
A person with the name virusman sure doesnt bode well in downloading a "patch/fix"

In all cases but this one, I assure you, LOL! VirusMan is one of the extremely talented community members who has been working on NWNX (a set of plugins which revolutionize and extend NWN) for years and years now. His creations like the Client Extender continue to push what's possible in NWN.

There is a non-"patch" workaround for the long auth server timeout.

I'm
running Win 7 and found a simpler solution to the master server waiting
issue. I placed this line in my HOSTS file and now server access is
instantaneous. "0.0.0.0 nwmaster.bioware.com" Without the quotation
marks.
I am running XP and it also worked for me.
Thank You.
For any wanting to know the hosts file is located at.
Windows 95/98/Me: c:windowshosts
Windows NT/2000: c:winntsystem32driversetchosts
Windows XP (Home OR Pro): c:windowssystem32driversetchostswindows 7 look to be the same as XP. it was listed as.
%systemroot%system32driversetc

You'd think so, right? He's one of the community's premiere modders, though. The skills and tools - interactive disassemblers - used to make viruses, trojans, and the like...are the same skills and tools needed to to make NWNX plugins.Amy Rosendale wrote...

Then I tried a multiplayer game, and it "couldn't find a local host", as it has been for months now.
So I would say yes and no.
I love being helpful.

The premium module server is online. The multiplayer authentication server is still offline.

Just click OK and Gamespy list will appear... eventually. Depending on the specific server, you may or may not be able to connect. Some that require authentication have scripted a work-around. If not, contact the server admin to find out when/if they are planning to provide a fix. It won't affect any LAN games.seventhslayer wrote...

Ugh.. this is all greatly dismaying to me. Just discovered the issue myself last week when I finally got around to installing NWN to a new computer I built, tried updating but was stymied. Then copied and pasted the address shown and was sent to the new bioware home page. The disheartening part to me is how it doesnt even show NWN or any of the older games in the "My Games" section of my profile. Anything before DA:O and ME 2 just seem to exist anymore. I liked having all those older games listed in my info, they were like.. badges of honor and now they've been taken away for, what seems like, no good reason. I can understand why they'd want to stop spending money supporting a game (provided it wasnt selling enough anymore to warrant the expenses) after 10 years.. but without warning? Not even a "So long and thanks for the fish!" type message? What the hell Bioware? Either update us or at least give us the text message kiss off saying you want to see other people.
yeah I sure do appreciate all the love Bioware is giving to their old fanbase...

No updates on the issue from Bioware/EA since last month - however, you can still patch the game.
You'll need the critical rebuild, available here:
