I hope that clears that up.

I would very much like to know what the status is on the keys. Will I get new ones or will the online CD-key check be removed or what? So yah. Subcribing to this thread to keep myself updated.

This is worrying. I had quite alot of CD-keys written down on my account. Since I like being able to host RP-lan parties, I had about 4 NWN Diamond CD-keys racked up over the years and 2 for NWN2 Platinum.

Thats the same thing I want to know. I think they'll need to remove the online CD-key check now that all this has happened.

So the breach was on the old servers where the CD keys were stored and linked to the Premium modules? Will I ever be able to play them again?
Not exactly. According to Bioware's post, neither the CD keys nor any user financial info were on the server that got hacked. However, as I recall, the same account access that allowed access to the hacked forum server also allowed access to the CD key info. (I could be wrong on that; I keep my own list of CD keys and only added them to my old account because I thought I needed to in order to post to the forums.) So, one can see why the CD key server may need to be kept offline, at least until some secure way is implemented to allow legit users access to their info.
BTW, though it's too late in this instance, my advice is to keep as little personal info on these sort of accounts as possible and keep your own copies of info needed to get software to run. Dedicated hacker routinely find ways around decent security on web sites. And, keep CD keys and like info with the software it they are needed to install. I take a permanent marker and write my keys on the disks (or make a label) for software distributed on physical media and I keep downloaded keys in a file with a similar filename in the same folder where I saved software that I downloaded.

I would consider asking your CC company to re-issue a new number if you're concerned. I know I was footloose and fancy free when I first started buying online. I have no idea who still has my number on record. I always tried to uncheck, remember my info, but it never fails I come log in and I realize I forgot to do it occassionally.

It may also worth going to the big credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) and putting a credit freeze on your accounts there. That won't stop someone (or you) from using your credit card number to buy something, but it will make it more difficult to register a new credit card in your name and then use it without you knowing.
No one with an online presence is uncrackable, but there's no reason to make it easy.

I spoke with a very nice EA rep last night about this problem. He gave me an email address to contact Bioware. Contact@bioware.com. If enough folks email them, hopefully they will respond.
Respond? BioWare posted this topic in the first place. What more of a response do you want?

So if all relax a couple of days more it will be fixed probably.
Besides...I don't see the big problem.
The server I am usually playing at just informs me that master server authentification failed but then just goes on....I guess most PW's work like this?
For browsing servers I am using a server browser app (Xfire).
But sure...naturally we really need to get the master server back...even though I am personally only experiencing very marginal problems with that it is gone. Just takes me a couple more seconds to log in to the server.

Like when it will be back up? The PW group I play on does not allow you to log in without the Master Server authorization. Frankly, I hope they get it back up and running very soon. This is very frustrating.

The original post predated the actual outage by 7 days. Since the Master Server went down on June 29th, there has been no official response. There's a lot of speculation, but no solid information. Can we get an official answer to the following questions?
- Is the server coming back?
- What is the cause of the outage? Was this part of an upgrade task to bring the retooled authentication service back online or was it brought down until the retooled authentication service is ready to be fielded?
- Is there a schedule or estimate when the server will be back online? If not, are we talking days, weeks, months?
Thanks

Due to the recent hacking of our legacy NWN servers we have disabled the NWN master server which manages game authentication. We are currently retooling our NWN authentication process and will have a new server up as soon as possible.
We appreciate your patience while we make these improvements to our systems.
