While the ausio worked fine when I bought the game, I stopped playing for a few months and went back recently, after patching the game. Suddenly the game is totally silent, though the visuals are still great. I tried uninstalling the patches, but nothing seems to help. I Have Vista and a GeForce GT 220 and an intel core 2 quad cpu 2.5 ghz.

Sounds like something on your system changed between now and when you played a few months ago. I doubt the patches themselves have anything to do with the issues you are experiencing or we'd see a lot of this sort of thing popping up. What sound card are you using? What have you updated in the last few months?

The only thing that changed was a virus I got and cleared out of my system (by resetting the entire thing) shortly after I stopped playing.

Oh, and I now have to launch it through origin as opposed to just the game.

I have the same problem too. The audio in this game is broken.
Try to "alt+tab" in the game menu and see if it solve the problem. When I alt-tab in the game menu, something goes in foreground and the audio starts working.
Let me know if this helps.

Formatting your system is likely the source of the issue. Try updating your graphics and audio drivers to the most recent

If the audio in the game is broken then why can thousands of people play the game with no audio problems whatsoever?  Your system is broken not the game.

Doesn't the most recent driver have a known crash with DA 2?

lol. Sorry, I found the problem. My computer, for some reason, had DA II automatically set to mute. Must have been something my brother did when he was playing on my computer, he like to listen to music while playing games.

This probably goes down as the funniest solution i've seen on here. Gave me a giggle anyways hope you can enjoy the game now with no more issues.

Because not all hardware configurations trigger bugs. It's so simple.

Your system is broken not the game.

No, it's not. My system is able to play more than 30 games without any problems. Plus, I have two identical machines with identical results. Additionally, it's a known thing this game has some problems with some Realtek chips. These are facts, not opinions. These problems are also inherited from DAO. Just do a search on the forums to find this game has serious problems with audio and some hardware configurations, before using a pedantic tone. You don't know anything about my machine so I don't understand who give you the right to say it's my system.

Also, I find stupid advicing someone to format a system. You don't even know which configuration he is using and you advice to format a machine blindly. Typical advice from someone who don't have a clue about the problem. No, formatting a machine doesn't solve problems automagically.

The solution the user found in solving this specific problem is the proof you shouldn't give advices to anyone.

Had you read what i said correctly you'd know i didn't advise anyone to format a system. What i said was there may be a link to him formatting (which he said he did) since the last time he played the game. The system configuration would have changed since the last time due to the format so i was heading in that direction. I don't have psychic powers to know that the problem was caused by his sibling messing with audio settings i can only go on what is written down. I'm not sure why you are directly insulting me i'll assume it's some bad effort at trolling.

Second the problem you are talking about effects certain hardware so your opinion that "The game is broken" is wrong. The game is not broken. If the game was broken it would work for nobody. It's a problem related to certain hardware that really needs some discussion between Realtek and Bioware to work out what's clashing to cause the issue which i can bet is something on Realtek's end those things are always throwing fits with games and refusing to work right.

And finally saying you played 30 games just fine means nothing to me. Different games, Different engines,Configurations etc etc etc so any test between games is useless. If you want to get engine specific and say DAO has the same audio issues for you then why do countless other sound cards work fine with no problems?

I think your sound card choice is the issue here not the game. So please don't make sweeping statements like "this game is broken" without actual evidence. You talk about facts yet you base your opinion on testing with one brand of sound card.

Trolling is assuming someone's else system has problems. Without knowing anything about the configuration used.

It's not. It is implicit the game is broken with some hardware configurations. I'm not generalizing. You are generalizing. It is always implicit problems depend by the hardware configuration. I guess it's always necessary to specify basic things with trolls. They don't attack the idea, they always attack how you express the idea. This is trolling.

I think your sound card choice is the issue here not the game. So please don't make sweeping statements like "this game is broken" without actual evidence. You talk about facts yet you base your opinion on testing with one brand of sound card.

My soundcard choice is the choice of millions of players. Realtek chips are so widespread no other brand can't even compete in market share these days. So, I repeat you a second time: evidece is written in the forums. Just do your homework and do a search. There are no opinions here. Even a Bioware dev confirmed this game has some problems with some realtek chips. Look, I'll do homework for you:
http://social.biowar...-7499014-1.html

http://www.gamefaqs....rigins/52506465

http://social.biowar...1/index/6452732

It's so evident this game has audio problems, still you continue to deny the issues.

Discussion ends here for me.

I like how you confirm everything i just said and then you still say the game has audio problems. If other sound cards except Realtek work fine how does the game have audio problems? How can i play the game with no audio problems? Maybe you should ask Realtek.

Discusion ends here for me.
