If you understood what the Asari scientist said back on Horizon when you first asked her what she did at Peak 15, then you will get what I am saying now. If not, you will just have to take it on faith. Major genetic manipulation has always meant failure of the organism. You can fiddle with the genetic codes a bit, but beyond that you fail. That having been said, what does that tell us about the Reapers?

They have a grasp of genetic coding that is masterful at the very least. They took an organism, rewrote its genetic code to repurpose it and turned the Protheans into Collectors. They even deleted entire chromosomes dispensing with huge sections of DNA. They modified both their body structures and their genetic purpose. That's something.

Miranda also has had significant genetic modification. Her sex chromosomes were YX with one Y modified to X to create a female. Thus the re-write of the Y to X data indicates a mastery of DNA encoding. Therefore, I suspect that she is the end product of Collector knowledge and technology arranged by TIM at her father's request.

Miranda's father is known to possess a human dominant agenda, has supported Cerberus financially in the past, and could therefore have connections which allowed him to access favors when he needed them. TIM would want to keep the credits rolling in and sought the information that Miranda's dad was looking for and he turned to the one race that had the answers, the Collectors. I don't know what he had to do the seal the deal, but I also wouldn't want to know given what we saw on the Collector ship.

What does this mean for ME3? That is a crapshoot. Could be the "Luke, I am your father" surprise everyone is talking about or it could be left alone. It is also possible that Shepard's "repairs" may also have been the products of Collector/Reaper tampering or extensions thereof. This would explain how TIM knew about the Collectors taking colonists and would also explain why he wanted the Collector base so badly, as possession of it could potentially give him the same mastery over life as it did the Reapers.

In this sense at least, the Reapers are indeed Gods.

Asari on Horizon? Did I miss something there?

I think he may be confusing Horizon and Noveria. There were no Asari on Horizon.

Regarding the theory, though, it is an interesting concept, though I do not think that Collector technology would be required to convert a Y chromosome into and X. The required structure of the X chromosome is already known, so the difficulty lies in construction, rather than design, which is the problem with overly extensive genetic manipulation. It is difficult to predict the results of inserting a manufactured gene sequence where it isn't supposed to be.

Humanity has, however, already demonstrated extensive skill in genetic manipulation in the ME universe. In addition to the (relatively) common practice of creating a designer baby, we have created custom life forms that hovered uncomfortably close to "sapient being". The practice was banned by law, but the capability remains.

That said, you are probably correct in your assessment of the Reapers being far more capable in the field of genetics than any current species, and I would not put it past TIM to negotiate for that kind of knowledge.

You are right, I intended Novaria. Not sure how Horizon fit in there. Sorry about that!

Admittedly, it is incredibly difficult to manipulate the genome to produce desired results. However, assuming you have a background in genetics you are probably familiar with how new the science of genetics is in the face of history. I mean, how many years did it take us to go from 'realizing obscure ramblings about pea pods aren't really ramblings' to 'complete map of the human genome'. It's not unfathomable that we would have a decent grasp of genetic manipulation over the course of nearly two centuries, especially given that we have many other races who can help us to avoid their pitfalls.

That being said, they basically tell you the Reapers (indirectly) backed the Rachni cloning project. Saren invested heavily in Binary Helix for them to clone the Rachni who Benezia tells you were meant to serve her and Saren. And it is probable the technology to clone the Rachni was partially based on Reaper tech.

In short: interesting theory, but aside from the Rachni I'd largely call it giving the Reapers too much credit and humanity too little.

Reapers have had 50000 to get it right. Thats more evolution than creation.
Okeer has a better claim to godhood than the Reapers in that regard, as he was able to produce Grunt in a short period of time using distilled genetic samples to create the perfect Krogan.
Mirandas father also had a better claim, as he took one of his own ribs, and turned it into a woman. Well, not rib, but you know what I mean.
