A few weeks a go I tried to install KOTOR on my Windows 7 laptop (killing time until ME3 is hard) and it didn't work, is there any way it does work on 7?

I installed mine from the disc onto a win7 64bit and it works fine. Although I am using a desktop. If you're using a Intel chip it may not work.

Okay, my problem is this: Finally got to installing this, and I bring up the launcher. I patched it all the way (tried twice to make sure) and clicked Game. the launcher closes and the pic of the Ebon Hawk shows up... about 10 seconds later, the pic closes and nothing happens. My OS doesn't check out (whatever that means. I don't do computer systems).

Help?

I installed the Steam version of Kotor on Win 7 and it works fine. My retail copy (bought way back when the game was first released) starts normaly but crashes all the time once I leave my cabine.

So I'd recommend sticking to Steam or some other digital download sevice for Win 7, instead of using a physical copy.

Link to some solutions from another similar thread:

If the Steam version works smoothly for Win 7, I'll probably go ahead and pick it up, especially since it's on sale now. :-)

@Master Shiori, are you running Intel processors on your system? I think that's an issue for Win 7 in trying to run a disk-based version of KOTOR. Maybe the Steam version bypasses the issue altogether.

Hope so. Really want to play it again on my primary rig.

Awesome! Thanks.  Happened to be on Steam earlier and saw KOTOR for sale.  So off I go!

It works on my windows 7 laptop (its a Best of PC version which has all the patches), but all the textures are messed up and it won't go fullscreen, it's just in a window with black filling the rest of the screen. I can't bring myself to play it.

Running it on windowed mode makes no difference; thye game works but the entire background ie. walls, rooms, terminals, buildings are an iron red colour. I don't want to play the game without the beautiful settings it takes place in

I have the Best of PC pack and I'm running it on a Lenovo Netbook. Works fine, a bit chuggy, but works on WIndows 7 finely.

I have the EA classics pack and am running it on 32-bit Windows 7 SP1. It has taken some tweaking but it is now running fairly well under Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. XP compatibility mode helped to get around disk copy protection issues.

Turning off the "Frame Buffer" setting under [Graphics Options] in the swkotor.ini file fixes the glitchy black screen that otherwise requires alt-tabbing to fix.

Same here. Installed it on my laptop too. It jumps to desktop sometimes during cutscenes, which is strange but bearable.

I know is old thread, but I have the original 4 CD disk pack, bought when Kotor first came out.

Only trouble I have is when installing. On the fourth disk it will install all the way to 100%.

Then ask for me to insert disk four, and disk four is already in the machine.

At this point, I had to do the three finger salute [ Ctrl,Alt,Delete] and kill it, other wise it wipe's everything out, and you have to do it again.

Then after that install the manual patch to bring it up to date.

Set compatability mode to win XP service pack 2

If not playing in admin mode, you may need to have it set to admin mode in compatability mode.

and then play it.

My only hitch is some cut scenes, like the leaving the first planet, the fighter attack cut scene would cause CTD if a allowed it to play to the end, but just clicking to jump out of it quickly normally got me past it.

Also if using KSE with Both genders active when meeting the Master Jedi for the first time can get you hung up in a small room inside the ship with no escape. But that is not the games fault.

I hate people that tell me I bought some thing, and now buy it again..do you all work for steam ?? Does not matter if it is cheap or not, it is a principal matter, and just seems wrong.

OS is win 7

Intel64
i5-2550 CPU @ 3.40 GHz 4 core's 4 logical processors
DDR3 4096 x 2
Corsair
8 Gig total on system ram

Dual HD7770 AMD Radeon 1 Gig each total of 2 gig of Vid card Ram

: I also play it in 1920X1080 Res

and yes the minimap system is corrected as well, with AA at 8 time, and antisotropy at 2 times it is still nice visually to play, and enjoyable. I like Kotor2 somewhat better, which I also have the original disks for as well. But both are very good games, and wonderful stories.

I have a problem with KOTOR. I got everything to run ok without freezing but when I am on the Endar Spire and when Travis and I meet Darth Bandon, I just cant see him at all and the conversation is stuck at Travis telling me to run. It doesn't freeze, its just stuck. I removed the modules and ran into the room Bandon is in and I say his name when I targeted over his location, but I couldnt see him. Help?
