I just got two copies of Baldur's Gate 4 in 1 off of Ebay. The games say there compatible with xp or vista. I have a Desktop and a laptop that I wanted to use to play multiplayer. My desktop runs win vista, my laptop win 7. When I try to host or join a tcp/ip game with my laptop the screen just goes blank....... Helps?

You might want to try connecting using GameRanger. Direct connections for most old games tend to be tricky these days.

1st check your network i.e. that the vista machine can read & WRITE to the win7... do other games work?
2nd install the games to a different directly NOT C:\\PROGRAMS...

How do I check my network i.e. for vista to read & write to win 7. This is the first game I have tried over the network.

I’m suggesting that there is in fact nothing wrong with your game but your computer isn’t configured correctly in order to allow the required network permissions… Yes, this is a guess on my part but helped by the fact that (a default setup of) win7 is notorious for denying any network activity that doesn’t belong to Microsoft.
How do you test?
A simple test is make a folder on your win7 desktop called test, and then try to access i.e. open your vista my-network and delete or change it from your vista computer.
I suspect you will be informed that you don’t have permission.

That would make sense, but the same thing happens when I host a game on the win 7. Hosting a game doesn't require communication from win vista at first. This leads me to believe that this is a compatibility issue with win 7, since hosting on win vista works just fine. Any suggestions?

Tried changing to windowed mode? I had the same problem, and changeing from fullscreen to windowed mode fixed it.

Before the game starts you can use the config program. If you're using the BG2 engine you can change from within the game by clicking the full screen button on/off from within the "graphics" set of options.

I tried that, but I needed to press Alt + whatever it is instead.

Alt + Enter, I think.
