Imagine this: After 40 hours of nonstop gameplay, you finally beat the game. After the final cut scene of the game, another cut scene comes in where there's a man and a child of an unkown race, the child is in his bed and the father is sitting next to him. The man says " And that ends the story of Commander Shepard. "

Would you hate this ending? Would you hate knowing that you're just playing the game of a bed time story?

For some reason this ending would urk the crap out of me.

If they'd used that story framing from the beginning it might have worked, but every indication points towards that we're playing this as it unfolds, or "In the now" so to speak

Yeah this ending would suck. ME is about choices. Plus what kind of father would read his child a story with Blue Alien Sex, Bar Fights, pole dancers, massive murders, blood and gore etc.

Its redundant. We all know this is the story of Shepard (much like the entire Star Wars saga is the story of Anakin), and that this is the final chapter in Shepards grand story.

Although, come to think of it, it wouldnt be surprised if Shepard dies at the end to save the galaxy.

I'd feel the same way if Shepard hadn't already died before. Now that we know you can die and come back to life (though it takes a crap load of money) what would stop anyone from Psuedo-Cloning Shepard again?

well if his body is completely obliterated, then there would be nothing left to resurrect.

I don't really see what the point of it would be. Depends how they did it but I can't off hand think of a good way of doing such a thing.

This is never going to happen, if it did I'd probably find it more humorous than infuriating due to the fact they had the balls to middle finger every fan of the game.

I don't find sacrificing Shepard for the greater good to be a good way to end, especially considering I want to play this game after I've completed the story to explore all the planets.

However I wouldn't mind them including that ending as one of numerous "good" endings where we defeat the reapers, I would like to see consequences like this for players who didn't do all they could but did just enough to secure a win against the reapers.

That is almost as bad as the "it was all a dream" idea

there was a series of levels, I think the marble thingy was one of the levels.

Edit: I was off. I confused the two. Here are the MIB 1&2 endings

Was also an old twilight zone or outer limits story, can't remember which.

Or what if the Mass Effect story was a work of fiction, stored in the jedi archives. Franchise within a franchise

ah so it was, wonder if they'll end the third in a similar way. Infact I think its coming out around the same time as mass effect 3. If mass effect 3 can't come up with a better ending than this story thing... wait I've already wrote this, my short term memory is scary.

Edit : EA or Bioware would have to pay lucas a massive pile of money to have a franchise within the star wars franchise.

yes, one ending in particular would particularly bother me. rainbows shoot down from the sky impaling most of the reapers and an army of ninja clowns and carebears fly in on the backs of demon kittens and kill the remaining reapers with lollipos before vanishing into the sunset.

I'm going to have to say no to this one. I wouldn't mind some sort of epilogue showing your surviving squad-mates mourning the losses or rebuilding, but the "storybook ending" even in the context of a non-fiction history, would be out of place IMO.

This would be one of only a few things in the universe that could make ME3 complete garbage.
