Hey, sorry if this is a bit off topic. But I got an email today from "Aaryn Flynn" GM of Bioware (something along those lines, I forgot because I deleted the email)

The email mentioned that Bioware got hacked, which I knew about, and it basically said that Bioware reset my password just to be safe. And I should click on the included link to reset my password. The link looked  like a EA link. But I didn't click on it.

I tried my password, and it still works. So it hasn't been reset, which made me think the email was maybe a scam?

I remember hearing something about Bioware emailing people who's accounts may have been comprimised.

**EDIT**

I just did a google search and found this:

"We have emailed those whose accounts may have been compromised and either disabled their accounts or reset their EA Account passwords. If you did not receive an email from us, or if your password still works for your EA account, your username and password were not compromised. "

It seems like maybe I got a legit email, but the odd this is, I got an email AND my password still works. So what do you guys think? I'd love to hear from someone at Bioware. Cheers.

Sounds like a scam to me. Don't ever follow those links to confirm a password.

I think the NWN's section on the old site got hacked. That's why.

My password still works AND I got an email. Which is why I'm not sure it was a scam mail or not.

It appears I got the email they were referring to but my password still works. Sooo

Sounds like a scam. Best thing you can do, is right click on the link they provided, select copy link location, and then paste it elsewhere to see if it truly is an EA link, or wether they added a false link underneath the the text of what appeared to be a legit link.

This is the actual email that was sent. Note that the only link it provided, was to go to EA support, not to reset any password.
Edit: I would suggest contacting EA support and double checknig anyway.
As they say in the email i quoted above, any suspicious activity about
accounts you should report to them.

So are you saying the email I recieved was a scam?

If it was legit then I don't understand this part ""We have emailed those whose accounts may have been compromised and either disabled their accounts or reset their EA Account passwords

If the email I got was legit, then it said they did indeed reset my password. And I needed to click on the link to reset it. Which I did not do.

The email did not say I 'should' reset my password, it said it already did.

I get that they would send out emails to warn people to change their passwords. But the difference with this one was, it said mine had already been reset by Bioware and I'd need to click on a link to change it to something else.

So if the email said my password was reset, and I did not click on a link to change it again, then I should not have been able to log in with my original password.

Basically, the email I recieved was a scam or Bioware has poorly worded email/statements.

Yeah, my email looked a bit like that, but had an EA link and a 'click here' type link. And that's what made me really cautious.

I just got this email.

We recently learned that hackers gained unauthorized access to the decade-old BioWare server system supporting the Neverwinter Nights forums. We immediately took appropriate steps to protect our consumers’ data and launched a thorough ongoing evaluation of the breach. We have determined that no credit card data was compromised from the servers, nor did we ever have or store sensitive data like social security numbers. Our investigation shows that information such as user names, encrypted passwords, email addresses, mailing addresses, names, phone numbers, CD keys and birth dates from these forum accounts on the system may have been compromised, as well as other information (if any) that you may have associated with your EA Account. In an abundance of caution, we have changed your password to ensure account security. Please visit this https://www.ea.com/gb/profile/[redacted] to reset your password immediately.

The link (I've removed the rest of it) seemed legit, clicking and it and pasting it brought me to the same page. After changing my password it logged me into my EA account. I've since logged onto this forum with the password I'd changed it too via that link.
I also couldn't access my account before changing it.

Thus, I'm going to say it's probably legit, however Bioware/EA should have an easy way of checking up if it's legit or not.

If it is a scam, it's one of the most sophisticated I've seen, since it actually changes your account password.

This is real. The email you recieved from BioWare isn't a scam. Hell I got one myself.  They reset my password some time in the past two weeks.  I had trouble logging into my account for this site, but was able to access my EA account just fine.

If you haven't been keeping up with news; hacker groups have been going after video game companies for the past couple of weeks. Guess it was a matter of time till they decided to go after BioWare or EA.

hawkens982, you might want to remove the whole url there, someone could reset your password and log into your account.

I could also confirm it was legit for me. I couldn't log in moment ago and wondered why. I saw this topic and decided to check my email and found the same email mentioned by the OP. I followed it through (making sure it didn't link to any suspicious place) and changed my password. So I can log in again, thankfully.

Seems legit to me, I had to reset my password as well.

I'm assuming they're just e-mailing it to every or most EA accounts as a precaution, as I never was a part of the NWN boards either.

Seems legit. I also was unable to log in until using the link sent in the e-mail. They really should have something official posted somewhere though because the e-mail certainly looks like your typical scam.

Thanks, I guess I didn't factor that in as I assumed it was scam mail. Thanks for the heads up though :P

As far as i can work out, it is legit.

Got the same email and the link is legit. The NWN section was hacked into so its really just precaution, but always best to change password anyway considering all he hacking in the last few weeks.
