Seriously, why do all of the Reapers look like cuttlefish?

Shouldn't some look like Protheans?

Other races?

In dark space, where dead Reapers lie dreaming.

The idea is that the "brain" of the reaper looks like whatever species it's made from, and the rest of it looks like a cuttlefish.

I suspect that originally BW intended the whole reaper to look like the species it was made from, but the sound of 2 million facepalms as the gaming world saw the Terminator Reaper made BW change their minds.

The cuttlefish is just the outer shell. The actual reaper, resembling it's race, is inside the cuttlefish.

EDIT: Beat me to it

All Reapers look similar in their final stage (obviously). I think it's only in the developmental process where they take the form of certain creatures. I could be wrong on that though.

The species that each reaper looks like is on the inside of that reaper cuttlefish like shell that they all have.

Beat x2

I disagree that BW changed their mind to make that so. I actually thought that the moment i saw it as EDI was talking too... seemed like common sense to me..

theoretically, the core would look like the race they were created from and the shell looks like it does. however, its aerodynamic in design (for what its worth) and has tentacles to interact with the surface of a planet (nobility) without trouble. Also theres the possibility that they were "trying something new" with the creation of the human reaper and that one would have been a unique construct in the end to them.

I'm not sure if their shape will ever really be explained. I think Bioware chose it because it's so utterly alien and unlike anything gamers have ever seen. It's not a shape humans would entirely recognize, and I feel it's almost like the machines in the Matrix, who took on shapes that were the exact opposite of what mankind would find aesthetically pleasing.

Modern descriptions of Cthulu resemble a cuttlefish squid-thing.

And the core resembles the race and yadda yadda. I can't concentrate on this post with that spider staring at me.

'Cause it would be stupid to have a bunch of giant robotic humanoids floating around in space.

Considering in the ME2 game ending, there's a 2-kilometre-long Mite/Tick/whatever-sixlegged-bug Reaper, and some kind of shelled sea creature Reaper, I'm generally confused on the whole subject.

This seems to be the prevailing "wisdom" but I've never understood it.

My first thought when Sovereign was revealed to be a reaper: if he's the ultimate machine, why does he look organic?

I don't see how robotic humanoid spaceships are any more or less "stupid" than robotic cuttlefish spaceships, but whatever.

Edi theorized that when first created, they look like the species they were created from. Over time, the develop a more efficient form, on the out side.... the cuttlefish.

It's all the same basic design. Generaly similar, anyway. I don't see the problem.... They look cool to me.
