It did. They all do. Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I'm actually of the opinion that it no longer did given that it had a giant hole blown through it and was essentially dead. I.e., it suffered the Reaper equivalent of having its head blown off.

Reapers take the shape of what every creature they harvest right? My guess is millions of years ago when they started the cicle, reapers harvested some cuttlefish as a practice run and now they are stuck with that look.

In trailers all Reapers have Sovereign-like shape... I hope, that is just placeholder.

I must say that I love the cuttlefish look. Always thought it looked rather prothean, myself, mostly because of the tentacle thing they share.

Why is this still so hard for folks to understand? Doesn't anyone listen to the in game conversations? EDI explains as you're approaching it that THE HUMAN REAPER IS JUST THE CORE. The reaper shape is the EXTERIOR ARMOR. Even the concept art and codex explains this. It's not a ret-con or afterthought or desperate scramble to make up for a design choice. Jesus folks try some hearing and reading. Strangely enough it can actually help you learn things.

It is my understanding that we didnt see the species in the derelict Reaper because we were INSIDE the specific form.

Best Way I can describe this:
1) The Shell is what we see on the outside
2) Directly beneath the shell you have the species core
3) INSIDE of the species core (where we went in ME2) you have the ship core, hull, etc

I bet the Leviathan looks kind of like a serpent; maybe even like a long snake with legs, or a lizard.

If you think about it - they could have a "compact form" and an extended form. Like a cuttlefish for spacetravel and 
an prothean for killing people
