actually they shut down their servers right away, did not store passwords in the clear, no credit cards, and we are talking about forums which were already shut down since they updated their servers. Only reason those servers were there is because us folks in the community really needed all that information and discussion they contained.
Compared to sony and the other gaming company's they are doing very well. If hackers really want your system they will get it one way or the other.
If you don't have something good to say, go somewhere else.

"actually they shut down their servers right away"
but, they still got info.
"did not store passwords in the clear, "
true
"no credit cards"
good
"Only reason those servers were there is because us folks in the community really needed all that information and discussion they contained"
I am not complaining about the discussion or great info that is contained.
I am upset because all of a sudden i'm getting hit with all this spam e-mail.
"If you don't have something good to say, go somewhere else."
Why would I have something good to say?
I just want the e-mails to stop (changed my password might help?) and assurance that it won't happen again

I don't see how what happened with the forums even relates to your issues, it is possible, but very much doubt that had anything to do with it. I would be saving my anger towards those folks at lolzsec who are being a nuisance.
But then if you have the same login and password in your email account as you do on the old bioware forums, well that makes me think you use the same one for playstation, xbox, ea, atari and 20 other internet/game sites many of which stored passwords in the clear. Very likely you have no idea which one is which. From what i've seen the spam coming from people i know belong to NWN seems to be matched up with the vault, which i suspect has been compromised for a while. But then there were just some exploits where spammers were able to compromise security holes in webmail programs.
They suggest changing your password because it's just a good idea to do that whenever anything like this happens. I would suggest using "different" passwords for each site you register on, and keep them all in a book next to your computer which hackers won't be able to access. Then go ahead and change those passwords at least once a year.
Spam issues is something you call your ISP about, they should help you get your spam filter turned on.
For real information and not just someone speculating ( i don't work for them in any way ) you should read and post in this thread Update to NWN Forum Hack and try to remember that EVERY gaming site is being hacked, it's just time to change passwords.
