Next gen is a silly phrase slapped onto too much and thrown bout too often with no real thought to its meaning.

And no, there will always be a day when graphics will be 'better'. If we wait for perfection, we'll never get it.

Realistically. No. Because next Gen Consoles aren't even int he forseable future realistically speaking. I mean seriously. we won't even hear the slightest peep about next gen x-box or next gen ps3 probably until the middle of next year at the very least and these companies still have to put out games before then.

Next gen Wii Was something that had to be done. It had fallen way behind. It needed to either leap forward or disappear so we're seeing it come about and it's making some really nice leaps it looks like. If they are successful then we'll probably see something to do with next gen's of the other two. They don't really need to push things to far at this point... Break their backs over new systems... Even computers aren't that far ahead in one way or another compared to what the consoles can do. As much as people like to argue that they are.

The only thing likely to see next gen with Mass Effect is maybe if they make it for the WII and decide to have it take advantage of the brand new system coming out at about the same time.  Honestly. I wouldn't bank on that.

Next gen isn't expected to show up until around 2015, so uh, NO!

Absolutely not. It's about the story and characters. I'm fine with the ME graphics, IMO the quality of graphics in general has reached a point where they are good enough. I'm not saying that no improvements should ever be made, I just think that there is less need now.

It would be a useless waste of time and resources to delay ME3 until the next gen.

ME1-3 was billed as being on this gen of platforms.

Let ME4 and on worry about the next series of consoles.

Most of us are happy with the 360's graphics. They are quality & honestly with the next console possibly taking 2-4 years in not interested in waiting 2 more years for ME3. An ME MMO or something or a continuation for the next console is fine though.

Hell no.

Anyways, this generation is going to have a much longer lifespan than previous ones. Some people even estimate that Kinect will be considered an "upgrade" to the 360.

Also, the first games out for each console are usually terrible.

It takes devs some time to adjust to new consoles.

Absolutely yes. This beautiful world deserved more time and mega upgrades. They made the dev cycle too quick for ME2 and ME3 after ME1. I would guess that EA doesn't like sitting on its high-grossing IP's though.

You would seriously like to wait four to five years from now for the next ME game?

I am going to go ahead and say that I think you're lying to yourself and everyone else if you're claiming that.

If the next-gen was "just around the corner", I'd agree, but it really isn't. 2014 for the machines to be in testing. 2015 for them to start selling. 2016 or later for them to start really seeing "next-gen" graphics.

As for "dev cycle too quick", that's a laughable opinion.

ME1 came out in November 2007.

ME2 came out in Jan 2010.

That's well over three years. There is no way in hell you can claim that is "too quick". Dev cycles longer than two years for an SP game with a pre-developed graphic engine typically indicate that a game is having serious development issues, and being re-thought repeatedly, or re-tooled for changing requirements (like an upgraded graphical engine).

ME3 will come out in March 2012. That's well over two years. That's longer than the normal dev cycle for an AAA title, especially a straight sequel which isn't changing the game engine or drastically changing the basic mechanics. Given they've been developing assets for the ME universe for six years when ME3 comes out, I think it'll be as polished and developed as most games which had far longer.

If they were changing from the UE3 engine, I'd hope they dumped Epic entirely, frankly. The pictures shown in this thread for the new Unreal engine are pretty ugly compared to say, the engine DICE is using for BF3, and that's a this-gen engine, not a next-gen one.

EDIT - Specifically, the Unreal engine pictures look extremely fake and plastic-y. That doesn't look like "future Washington", it looks like cheap CGI. The character doesn't look like a person - he looks like a very detailed but definitely plastic doll. The floor doesn't look wet with rain, it looks shiny like in a crummy computer game water effect. Given that engines like the BF3 one already do better than this in several ways, I just see no reason to stick with Epic's engines. They've look overly-shiny and overly-plastic-y for what, a decade now? Longer? Right back to UE1, where it was cool because it was new. Now it just looks dumb.

I certainly hope there are SP CRPG Mass Effect games on the next-gen machines, but I hope it's another ME series, not the Shepard series. It'd be cool if you could still import your decisions from ME3, of course, in the way you can import them from DA:O to DA2.

Graphics aren't important. It's the art style that matters.

gameplay > graphics anyway

I still like to fire up Ufo: Enemy Unknown or X:com if you will, same with a lot of older games because frankly back in the 90'ties you couldn't sell a game on its graphics.

And I can't afford a new system currently.

I'm just hoping I'll be able to play this on my Elite...(I don't really wanna upgrade to the new one till mine RRoD ,or until companies start making good games for the Kinect)
