Hi, all. Due to ea/bioware being recently hacked, has anyone today startup mass effect 1 retail version? Mass effect 1 worked fine couple months back, now that I am trying again now it stays forever trying to load at startup. Just want to know if anyone else can get on the game right now, if they can it's prob a problem on my end rather than the drm online authentication being busted

Just tried it, took about 20 seconds to get into the game from launcher, but then it was in ok.

guess it is a problem on my end then. I am using windows vista business x32bit, intel 2 quad core 9650 (oced to 3.8ghz), nvidia gtx 295, 4 gigs of ram, asus xonar dx soundcard. All drivers are up to date. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling - didn't work. tried running as administrator via exe mass effect file in binaries - didn't work, run under xp mode - didn't work, tried altering various gfx/sound options in config - still doesn't work, turned off anti-virus software - also didn't work. All I get after launching game is the startup picture and forever loading mouse cursor. Any ideas what is wrong? It worked fine couple months ago, has it anything to do with new nvidia drivers?

Here is what I did to fix it:

1- Download the latest OpenAL drivers and install them. http://connect.creat....ds/oalinst.zip

2. Go to C:\\Windows\\System32\\

3. Copy the files OpenAL32.dll and wrap_oal.dll from System32 to Mass Effect's Binaries directory. You might want to backup the originals just in case.

6. Run the game, give it a few seconds and it should load up fine assuming you had the same problem as me.

A similar solution here,in the last post. "
