Low + Romance = Lomance.

It seems to be consistent them in every Bioware game that the player character is never, ever, ever, ever allowed to have a happy, healthy and normal romantic relationship with anyone. Roadblocks are thrown up left and right, and even if the protagonist is the most amazing person alive and the most loving and committed partner, they are always getting jilted, rejected, criticized and accused of being subpar, dumped for some tremendously ****** reason (which is usually imaginary), or otherwise having their hearts broken, betrayed, or being utterly screwed over by the person they gave their whole heart to.

Ouch. That's sad. As much as I like Bioware's games, I'd never ever want to be the protagonist in any of them. So much negativitey... I wish some of them could just have their soul mates forever and be happy. They deserve it so much.

I hope things become a little more positive in this regard in 3.

Shepard is too far off into extreme-what-the-hell-we-are-all-going-to-get-killed-by-cthulu territory for anyone he meets to be normal.

Of the options, Kelly is a pretty hum-drum relationship. She doesn't have anything defining and dramatic happening, but that's sounds exactly like what you want. Tali is probably the next most normal if it wasn't for that whole envirosuit death sentence thing.

Yes, but they all seem to be realistic roadblocks. It wouldn't be as interesting to have a perfect relationship.

No one wants a smooth relationship. I'm pretty sure you haven't been in one yourself.

Don't mean the person being normal, that's not necessary, just for their relationship to be normal and healthy.

All stories require conflict. Without conflict, the story is boring. Every relationship in every novel, television show, and movie is rife with conflict.

Television shows where the conflict in the relationship is resolved often fold shortly after because people lose interest.

But it can still work out well in the end, with a positive resolution to said conflict. Things never seem to work out very happily in the end for our hapless characters.

That would be nice if shep could be happy with their alien LI (BW would most likely allow that for human LI) but unfortunately I at least see Tali being one of the heartbreakers I can look at her people's situation they need everyone who can have children to have them and I really doubt they'd let her keep shep on the side and say make her marry and have kids with a Quarian. We already know there is a level of tolerance for Turan x Quarian but I can't say it would be the same for human x Quarian. Other then her Garrus might've wanted a 1 time thing with shep.

I must be the protag in a bioware game, that explains everything.

But we haven't SEEN the end. There's almost always a resolution to a relationship in a story. I'm sure ME3 will take care of each.

Refer to my first sentence. Shepard is fighting gods. Do you honestly think any relationship he can have is going to be 'normal' right now?

Yeah, but remember what can happen to her during the suicide mission. Posted Image That kind of throws a spanner in the relationship works. Every romance can end in tragedy in ME2.

Conflict is the fuel of a good story. Sorry, but the only reason we keep playing/watching/reading is to see the conflict ultimately resolved, for better or worse. If there's no conflict, it isn't interesting.

But the persistent negativity and hate make it suck. Why do the PC's love interests have make them so miserable.

I've always thought romances in Bioware games had quite happy endings. There are a few harsh endings but pretty much every BW romance I've tried has worked out well.

For exiled shep she might be able to be killed and if she lives that BW might use that as the exception rule like with Alister you needed to be mean to him after his sister in order for him to stay with you perhapse exiling Tali would be the only way to stay with her. As long as everyone doesn't go Alister breakup on me that would be great but I can't imagine everyone being a happily ever after ending.

You haven't played Obsidian games, eh?

Now them's the romances (or their lack thereof) that will make your stomach turn.

I actually think it would be great if around halfway through, or maybe by the end of the second act of ME3, their relationship goes smooth and they are just a good pair. Them being in love and not having troubles would make the finale even more amazing, either if we lose that love interest in battle or we are just clearly looking out to help save someone that Shepard loves. Smooth would send me on a bigger emotional roller coaster when they are endangered later on.

Yeah, but if you care about Kelly you probably would have gone to save her, right? Not that it really matters, it just reinforces my main point that Shepard lives far too extreme of a life for any relationship he has to be normal. Kelly is just the *most* normal relationship you can have.
