Before ME2, his writer said that he was a "young, brash officer" and "definitely under 30."

Turians are like trees, you have to chop them in half to count the rings. Luckily, ME 3 comes with a nice omnitool blade device so you likely will have your answer shortly within the game if you so choose.

According to codex, there is no particular difference between human and turian lifespan.

I'd say just below 30 by the time ME2 ends.

Amazing years old.

I'm surprised you all think he is that young. With his accomplishments and personality, I expected him to be male Shepard's age, like early thirties, give or take a few years. It's hard to tell by their looks though.

It was confirmed somewhere, buried beneath the threads, that he was around Shepard's age.

I thought late twenties. He seems younger than Shepard, but not by much.

But there is the turian mandatory 15 years service in the military (which normally, we would have completed to be able to join Shepard.) But I don't know if C-Sec work counts as working in the turian military. So I think it is safe to say that he may have not yet finished the 15 years service and is in his late twenties.

Don't forget that turians begin their military training at the age of fifteen, though. They have a bit more time to rack up their ranks than we do. Plus, like someone's already mentioned, one of the writers confirmed that Garrus is under 30 years old.

I usually figure him mid-to-late twenties. Around 27-29 sounds about right to me.

Turians work for the state for fifteen years (from 15-30). If C-Sec is not considered to fall under the auspices of that, then Garrus is closer to his mid-to-late 30's; he'd need to finish his mandatory 15 years of state service, then gone into C-Sec, spent some time gaining his reputation- he's lead investigator for the Saren case, something you wouldn't give a rookie, even a turian one. And then there's two years between the Normandy blowing up and re-meeting him on Omega.

I completely agree... I always thought him as being roughly 27 by ME1 and thus 29 by ME2...

Garrus is not the average turian though, he is one of the most skilled persons at what he does in the galaxy. I mean he was even considered spectre material. Therefore I don't find it impossible that he was in the middle of his fifteen years serving the state, currently as a sucessfull c-sec officer, when we first met him in ME1.

well Liara's 108 going 109 but she acts like mid-to-late 20's.so it's not physical age that matters but mental(maturity).so Garrus may as well be 40-50 human years but we percieve him as same as Liara(around 30).

About 30. He doesn't seem that much younger/older than Shep.

If Garrus was say 28, at the time of Mass Effect 1, and assuming he started his government service at 15 years old, he would have been serving the government both in the Turian military and then C-Sec for at least 13 years in total. So he would have been close to completing his mandatory service to the government. Considering that he was already close to completing his 15 years and that he's exceptional (he was considered as a Spectre candidate), chances are he got an official waiver to leave and follow Shepard. Besides, working with a Spectre would be considered government service in it's own right.

I believe Patrick Weekes said he was just a bit younger than Shepard (but again, not Even Bioware knows his exact age.. it was never defined in design docs).

I agree he's not average, but as far as we know, they don't make exceptions for even exceptional turians. The turian culture appears to be extremely civic-minded and there's no data as to whether they would release someone early. Without knowing whether serving in C-Sec counts towards state service, we have one dev saying that he's a bit younger than Shepard, and the codices that say he needs to be in his thirties. So who knows?

How old is Shepard, for that matter? He wouldn't have technically aged the two years he was dead, so isn't he still 29?
