I'm not sure it needs an actual plot point if they do it just before the game actually starts. But hopefully they'll put a method in game to change it. That stupidly expensive machine you built to fix your facial scars would be a good place to do it.

Or 'Blake's Emporium,' a cosmetic surgery boutique on the Citadel.Image IPB

Nothing was worse than going through that entire intro repeatedly just to fix one small detail on your face that you didn't notice until you got it in actual game lighting.

I...uh, said something stupid to Jack in the beginning of ME3... which led to the surgery.

Just don't get so drunk you pass out with Jack. You'll wake up with a tramp stamp that covers most of your body.

Shepard shaves his beard and accidentally cuts himself, then this happens.

I would love to be able to tweak a face in-game. Sometimes the character creators have such wierd lighting, and by the time you get into the real game and proper lighting, you notice that the eyes are a smidge too far apart or the cheeks look wierd in three-quarter profile.

Dragon Age 2 did it well with the Black Emporium DLC that let you tweak you character's face once you were in the game proper.

I heard they were going to allow altering a face w/o having to re-do it completely. I think Casey Hudson tweeted (****?) about it.

Edit:

Apparently tw@t is a swear word?

Four options:

A. Shepard gets his/her face mauled by a drunk varren that mistakes him/her for a Pyjak.

B. Shepard gets his/her face mauled by jilted love interest.

C. Shepard gets his/her face smashed when running into the loft's malfunctioning bathroom door.

D. Shepard realizes he shouldn't have let Cerberus have the Collector base and uses a plasma torch to remove the egg.

Facial reconstruction ensues.

since its a trial im guessing that there  will be some sort of security checkpoint with a facial scanner or something.

What I HATED about ME2 was that I had the option to import my ME1 face, or start over again from scratch (not sure if it's different for PC or PS3). I figured my Shepards may want to grow a beard, get a tattoo, change make up, etc. I hope that ME3 will give us the option to tweak as well as totally rebuild our characters.

Just pop into the character creator. Don't try to come up with an explanation.

I agree with this.  Would have been nice to get a different hairstyle or change lipstick without having to completely rebuild.  I would have found it ridiculous if Kaidan recognized me with a completely different face, so I just stuck with the old despite wanting to change a few things.

So ME2 smartly began with Shephard dying and then getting reconstructed so it made sense that you'd be able to create a new face.

I don't think they'll go the dying route again though.  Do you think they'll come up with some story reason as to why you can change your face and class again, or will they just do it at the beginning and forget about trying to contrive a reason for it?

Realistically the corrupted data that many have already suggested. Far reaching....Surviving a Batarian assassination attempt that left you scarred. Reaching further....The Hanar that put Zaeed in the neck brace was contracted to take Shep out. During the battle, the Hanar got too close. Okay out of my system but it'll probably be one of the two first choices.

I don't think it matters. I don't think Shepard's appearance is canon in any story.

they don'y have to have an explanation, they can make it where you just get to change your face. but i wish they had a feature where you can change your hair without having to rebuild your entire face.
