Does Energy Drain benefit more from +damage or +duration (I know that Energy Drain boosts your shields, and was wondering if +duration lengthened the boost)
Also, for this type of build
Overload (1)
Attack Drone
Deep Cryo Blast
Improved AI Hacking
Energy Drain (Heavy or Area??)
Mechanic (for the +duration on cryo blast, drone, and AI Hacking)
Which Energy Drain should I go with? I plan on using Energy Drain for improving survivability rather than sapping shields, although the shield destruction is obviously a benefit as it is essentially replacing Overload in this regard.

ED is probably a damage-based power, as it has no duration effect. Duration will benefit you Cryo and AI Hack, which are probably more important than ED. I'd probably stick to the build you've got right now. I'd recommend an AR or SR as well, but it's up to you.

I'll stick with Mechanic, I was just wondering if it would help out Energy Drain at all. Doesn't look like it, but that's no problem.
I had planned on rolling with an AR (possibly the GPR, because it 'fits' with the techie feel of this Engineer). I have considered the Viper for taking people out after their frozen, but I also planned on trying out the Phalanx this time around too, which is basically a mini-sniper if I'm correct. So I will probably stick with the GPR/Phalanx idea. I'll be using Garrus and his Squad AP Ammo to help against armored enemies and that will help out the GPR's lack of punch against armor.
EDIT: Is it better to roll Heavy Energy Drain or would it be more useful as Area? I normally evolve Overload to Area, but I didn't know if the shield boost from Energy Drain stacks if it hits multiple enemies or if it would be better to to have the consistent strength of Heavy.

Heavy or Area is really mainly about your personal preference. Both work extremely well, and each will be better than the other in certain situations, but not by much.
I'd go with Area myself though.

I'd go Area as well, but I always take AoE over raw damage, just so you know.
lol, I wonder if *GPS* wouldn't be too good against shields, as I'm guessing you want to spam ED... have no idea.
*Edit: Sorry, I meant GPS... The GPR's base damage is very low... I think might actually a lot weaker than even the Vindi against shields, nevermind the Mattock.

That is a valid point. The Vindicator is a great general-purpose AR to consider instead.
